I flew many airlines from europe, USA, Middle East, and Asia as well, including JAL and ANA. In my opinion, last two are the best ones in term of comfort, hospitality, and meals. In your case, maybe it was unfortunate since caterer came from SFO. I flew JL and NH from Japan, so far no problem with meals, always tasty for me..
If you don't see condiments, you can always ask from the flight attendants. And its a vegetarian meal, the airline catering will not put them on the tray. It may have been a quick turnaround, the 3rd party people who cleaned the aircraft may not have time to fully 'clean' the aircraft. On behalf of Japan Airlines and the third party company who did the cleaning, our apologies it did not meet the standards. 😁🙏🏼
someone has a champagne taste on a beer budget!! you do realize you're flying economy right? if you want better food then either stop ordering vegan or pay up to upgrade your seat. economy is not about offering amazing service. its about getting you from point A to point B as economically as possible.
I always fly this airline from San Diego to Manila. I love their impeccable service, friendly FA and good food.

I agree.. Asked, but with the covid situation, not sure they carry them as I was told they did not have any condiments.
