  • The ongoing debate around content in #Bollywood will keep on happening and I got the opportunity to discuss various things with the team of Thar including #AnilKapoor Harshvardhan Kapoor and director, Raj Singh Chaudhary. The film available on #NetflixIndia has done considerably well and in this interview we discussed the oscillating journey of content, theatres vs OTT, whether OTT is mimicking larger than life cinema, the attempt to encapsulate westerns through Thar and some advice by Anil Kapoor to Harsh and of course, why Welcome is still so special!

I loved Thar. It’s really sad that such underrated projects really don’t create a buzz because people are too busy to criticise Bollywood. Also Harshvardhan Kapoor is a gem just like Anupama Chopra said he is the ‘artsy Kapoor’ of the family

Now most importance should be given to our highly talented writers (and directors), they should be paid handsomely, for making highest level of storytelling, filmmaking, and original, highly localized Indian stories, and also genre defining, genre bending, landmark, pushing the boundaries of cinema and storytelling kind of movies and shows. Also if they are paid well, this will insure that more new highly talented people will come to story writing industry

Anil Kapoor is one actor who has coped with the changing atmosphere of the industry. His contemporaries like Govinda and Sunny Deol got stuck with their over the top hero image and never tried to re invent themselves. But Kapoor never shied away from doing a second lead or a comedy role like in welcome , no entry etc and then again reinvented himself with a television series like 24 at a time when the series trend was not mainstream. Looking forward for more great projects from him.

Honestly one of my favorite things about Thar is the dynamic b/w Anil Kapoor & Harsh's characters. Everytime I've seen a real life father-son duo share the screen it's always been cringe & the fact that the father actor plays himself (other than Paa). But in Thar both Anil & Harsh barely talk to each other & are mostly polar opposites and the film tries to build smtg through that lens & I find that unique. Also I wish you'd ask him anything about a potential Bhavesh Joshi 2.

I loved Thar for its treatment , screenplay and Anil jis performance and hats off to the poducers to back its such a project. The old world action was superb. Two parts where it failed , for me. 1. The two storyline’s not meeting really cohesively . 2. Lost opportunity in developing the villain in Anil sirs timeline , which was so well done in Harsh’s timeline. We needed more from the antagonist , because westerns ALWAYS have a larger than life villain .

I genuinely hope and pray that Harsh gets known for the enigma, the rawness and the intelligence he carries on the screen rather than his sneaker connection or his desire to buy a secondhand Lamborghini. People are a lot more than the bits and for a change, we can focus on the constructive side of things. Otherwise, it genuinely shows how hollow and hypocritical we are as a collective. It's time people stop being harsh towards Harsh. Can't wait for the next one. :)

If Thar was to be released in theatres, it would have succeed if the trailer for the film didn't give too much away and focused on the cinematography + Anil Kapoor's character and looks. Some of the wide shots and gun battle sequences he was in would have been excellent trailer material and to see in the cinema.
