    Alone together, beyond the crowd
Above the world, we're not too proud
    To cling together, we're strong
    As long as we're together
    Alone together, the blinding rain
The starless night, were not in vain
For we're together and what is there
    To fear together
Our love is as deep as the sea
Our love is as great as a love can be
And we can weather the great unknown
    If we're alone together

Wow, I was just working on this song, but I realised I didn't know the lyrics. And I had thought they would be about being lonely even in a relationship. But it is quite the opposite. That will go into interpreting and playing the song. Thank you.

A number of years ago I spent a year in New York one week. I don't remember the hotel I was staying in, but I had found a really good jazz station. I had just fixed myself a drink when this song came on. I stood there, drink in hand, looking out on the city as a soft rain was falling. Of course it would have been better if a semi-nude woman had been beckoning to come back to bed. But it was real life not a movie. The mood was just right with the drink and Chet Baker on the radio. I've never forgot that moment. And everytime I hear this song, I'm back in that hotel room. Sometimes life just gives you that perfect moment you can keep in mind forever. Thanks for posting this awesome song.

@@mojo6706 Yes, I was. A couple of years later I saw Chet in person when he played at a little lakeshore dive on Lake Minnetonka outside of Minneapolis, MN. I might have told this story before. If so, here it is again. The club usually had a few tables around a small dance floor, but that night there were just rows of chairs. Some people kept chatting away among themselves while Chet was playing. He stopped playing and calmly told them that if they didn't want to listen to the music they were free to leave. That shut them up.

You're statement can not be anymore right. I am an advent listener of hip-hop. Although I listened to hip-hop infused with some Jazz it was nothing like this. I fell in love with Jazz when I was a little girl because my parents use to play it all the time. I remember when I 1st heard Chet Baker's music. It made me feel like I was being transported to another time and place. Lovely.

Isn't it like that though? I don't know what Chet does, but it's like he knows to wait for the feeling. A lot of players push their musical thoughts out there when they play, but Chet seems to wait for the feelings.

it was like having a sun burning inside my chest...
      I mean,each time I saw her,I was set ablaze ...
the feeling,it was feeling alive... even though she didn't love me anymore ...
I was sad, maybe... but that was the best and the worst feeling at the same time.
but as time goes by,this feeling crumbles and that's just worse...you are bored...
you will feel empty...and almost dead.

Mr Barca. I lost my lovely wife in Feb of 2016. It is a week shy of a year. Perhaps I shouldn't listen anymore. I was in grief therapy. I got a lot better. I thought I was becoming the old me. I started listening to my old favorites- that all brought me back to missing her so bad. I just want to die. His music is so poignant. She and I moved around a lot because of my job. Each place we went we looked for a jazz/pop bar that played the lovely stuff.Lena, Sarah , Dinah, Louis but none touched so much as Baker. Never got to see him. My pleasure before CD was to hear him on vinyl. My wife was younger than I , but she loved my music. Chet , you broke my heart with beautiful memories. You were the king of the horn.

    • @InChristJesus87
      @InChristJesus87 7 ปีที่แล้ว +45

I took advantage of her beauty and innocence. I tried exploiting her weaknesses. My motives at first were bad. But then I fell in love with her. She was so much younger and I broke her to grow her. Breaking to try and make her a woman; over and over again. I didn't realize what I had until I pushed her so far away that I realized what I was doing wasn't for the better but it drove her to not loving me anymore. Now I have just the pieces of what I had as memories and those memories haunt me because I now know what I had and how I did so bad for so long. Chet you help me see what I did and how I pushed her to the end.Through the music I feel her and remember what it is that I actually had. Money nor status was important but the fact that she loved me unquestionably was after all I put her through I still somehow found a way to destroy it all. Oh how love has a funny way of being right.

I saw your beautiful face when I heard this song playing in my head. Perhaps, in some foreign place we've never been. Our hearts beating in rhythm, souls intertwined, lost in the moment. Strangers speaking languages we never heard before. Candle light flickering casting a soft shadow on your face. How could I forget your smile and the way your eyes looked deep into my soul. You made me feel so alive, so young. I felt loved for the first time, I felt like a person. Something I've never known before. The taste of your lips, the smell of Spanish Lavender in your hair as I ran my fingers through them. We kissed and dance through the night. Looking at the light on my wooden floor, casting lines from the window blinds. I wonder if I'll ever see your beautiful face once more?

    • @Heopful
      @Heopful 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Man so many stories about Bill Evans not being 'aggresive' enough as a marketer/businessman with getting himself out there. Lots of times going uncredited for work done. IIRC the whole chord progression in Blue in Green which Miles.D gets called a genius for all the time... except the first chord was written 100% by Bill, but (again iirc) there was some problem with Bill being white ..
Miles possibly was a musical genius, but he knew very well how to market himself and present himself in that ostentatious glitz+glamour type way the public loves. Where as Bill just played for that chick he was hung up on his whole life.

In the hush of midnight's shadowed tune,
Chet's trumpet weeps beneath the moon.
    Notes like teardrops softly fall,
    Echoes of a melancholy call.
In smoky rooms where shadows dance,
Chet's horn weaves a forlorn romance.
A solitary sigh, a lonesome cry,
    As melodies of heartache amplify.
    His trumpet whispers tales untold,
Of love that's young, and love grown old.
Through muted brass, a mournful plea,
    A requiem for lost ecstasy.
    A lonely street, a dim-lit bar,
Chet's music drifts like a fading star.
In every chord, a soul laid bare,
A sonnet of sorrow suspended in air.
Each breath he takes, a heavy sigh,
A wistful echo, a muted goodbye.
Through amber notes, the pain unfolds,
A symphony of sorrows, stories untold.
The night embraces the mournful sound,
    As Chet's trumpet weeps, unbound.
A ballad etched in shadows deep,
In the music of Chet, the sadness seeps.
