    Greetings James! Many thanks for the terrific video that chronicled your March 2023 Criterion flash sale acquisition. I'm delighted that you continue to lean quite heavily into blind buys and that you remain committed to viewing filmmakers that are not as well known as some of the old standbys so to speak. It is safe to say that 99.9% of my film pick-ups are also blind buys and it is very rare that I have one that did not resonate in some way. I have not seen any of the films that you highlighted but suffice to say that my interest has been stimulated on all of them. My own most recent viewing experience was the 2000 film, Best In Show, directed by Christopher Guest and featuring Fred Willard, Eugene Levy, and Catherine O'Hara. Putting it simply, this is a laugh riot from start to finish. I can not recall having laughed at a film this much, ever. The story centres around contestants vying for top honours at a dog show. Willard gives one of the greatest comedic performances in the long history of the cinema as the television announcer. Guest shot the film in mockumentary style. My latest film acquisition was 1987's The Living Daylights, featuring Timothy Dalton, Maryam d'Abo, and Jeroen Krabbé. Thanks again for the great video and have a wonderful end to the week!

      Greetings, Chris! Glad to hear you enjoyed my Criterion haul. I’ve had such a good experience to date with Criterion blind buys. Generally, if Criterion is releasing a film it’s a movie that has something to say.
      I haven’t seen Best in Show so will need to add to the watchlist and it’s been a good bit since I’ve seen The Living Daylights, I believe Timothy Dalton’s debut as Bond.
      Have a great Friday and weekend coming up!

    Nice Haul! Can't go wrong with any of those picks. I have three of those films myself - Mr. Klein, Uncut Gems and Portrait of a Lady on Fire. I think Uncut Gems was the best of those three mainly because it was more fast paced and exciting that the other two; there is hardly a dull moment in the movie Uncut Gems. I liked how the director in Uncut Gems gave NBA players and the Weeknd roles in the film and made them a part of the story- it really made the film come alive so to speak.
    I ended up getting the World of Wong Kar Wai and The Internal Affairs Trilogy in the sale. Already have dived into The Internal Affairs Trilogy and it's awesome! There are so many unexpected plot twists kind of reminded me of a Chinese version of "The Departed". I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it yet.
    Thanks for another great video, Will have to pick up the Hollywood Shuffle and visions of Eight in the next sale. Both look like great films.

    You got some good films! It just so happens I passed on Inland Empire this time, thinking I would pick it up in the next sale. I did pick up Romeo and Juliet, Mildred Pierce on 4K, Imitation of Life, Last Hurrah for Chivalry, Cooley High, Lars Von Trier Trilogy, and Women on the Verge of Nervous Breakdown.

    You keep mentioning that you are always on the fence on whether you would bite the bullet and get the Pasolini movie Salo every time there’s a criterion flash sale or Barnes and Noble 50% off sale. So I see that you still haven’t bitten the bullet yet. But I think it was a good decision this time around

    • @20thand21stMovies
      @20thand21stMovies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point on Salo, Thomas. I imagine the same question will pop in my mind during the July sale regarding Salo - should I get it or not 😂.

    I love that Mr. Klein cover art. The film itself is of course wonderful but I realized how great that cover art is. Your video had me checking out Visions and Frownland on the criterion channel. I watched a good chunk of Visions, didn't finish it but I'm good. And watched about a half hour of Frownland just to see what it was like. It's intimidating, trying to keep up with the main character because he's so, as you say, frenetic. I could keep watching it but I needed a break. Just picked up The Velvet Underground for the Flash Sale. Looking forward to the supplements as I've already seen the feature.

    Haven't seen Inland Empire yet, but the fact that David Lynch managed to make it all on his own (not including his actors), even with an incomplete screenplay, is very impressive.

      I agree, Matt, and having seen the film, wow, I’m very impressed with the filmmaking prowess of Mr. Lynch. His films can be a bit challenging to understand but the artistry is undeniable.
