“Who’s gonna take care of you guys when I’m gone?” Behind every addict is a broken heart.
RDJ has been an Oscar calibre actor for decades.

Yeah but then Robert Downey Jr became Ironman and his career took off and he beat his drug habit and now has been become so successful now. This movie was really good but sad because both Blair, & Jullian and Clay were rich and beautiful and they really ended up with Less Than Zero. The music by Thomas Newman is on ebay the soundtrack if you guys are looking for it. The music is so haunting. Good movie which was made back in the 80s Brett Easton Ellis is a good writer he did American Psycho Less Than Zero and Glamorama, All Best Sellers The 80s had some great movies and music too.

What people don’t understand when they think of addiction is that addiction to drugs is not the problem itself. People have problems that they try to cure with drugs by escaping reality. Don’t treat people for drug abuse treat their problems and you’ll save them.

Ivan Terrible I grew up around addicts in my family. I even had some problems myself but I got out of it. I’m no expert but I think I have had enough experience and talked to some experts to understand this a bit better.

Ivan Terrible I just thought about something. I remember about a scientific experiment in which scientists spiked the water of rats with cocaine. I remember that the findings of the experiment were that rats become addicts when they are isolated while when they have good healthy social relationships they stay clean. I guess for humans, one side of it is self medicating trying to heal the pain of other issues and the other is unhealthy relationships.

I've been in Clay's position before in this scene. You go from a relatively normal and stable environment to seeing the darkest side of humanity. You're all alone and people lean on you because you are the father/husband/friend/savior that everyone needs but still they choose their dark path. And they either like that path or they don't know how to get out of it. You can't save them, either, because they will drag you down with them. They have to want to leave the shit behind forever and go with you right then and there. You can always be faithful, kind and loyal. But if the person you're trying to help doesn't care or wants to live that life, you have to let go...

@Anthony Williams I don't even watch this film for its accurate depiction of drugs hahaha I just enjoy the visuals, the pacing, the exaggerated 80's landscape with it's lush lighting, elaborate/over-the-top parties. The music is my absolute favorite aspect. That stood out to me the most in the film. Certain movies, not all, I just enjoy for the craft...while others I really watch for their accuracy/authenticity with a certain subject. It all fluctuates for me from film to film. I just wish cinema was still good. Modern movies blow. Thanks for those recommendations though. I'll give them a viewing!

Less Than Zero is just as dramatic as the 1986 remake of The Fly and has an ending that is equally tragic and depressing. At first you see Clay becoming really bothered by the people he knows trying to cover for other people and their problems, then Blair starts to realize that she’s uncomfortable with the life she’s living and cannot deny there’s a problem anymore. But when Clay and Blair try to rescue Julian, it becomes futile because Julian couldn’t rescue himself.

@@alexgataricit was thoroughly explained in the movie that his father had already sent him to rehab and he just faked his way through it like Matthew Perry did - he lied and stole from the family - that's why even his own brother tried to kick his ass when he showed up at the house. So his father rightly took the "tough love" approach, kicked him out, cut him off from relatives giving him money, and let him hit rock bottom - which he did, which is why he came crawling back to his dad, who agreed to help him if he'd pledge to stay clean for a week, after which Julian tells Rip he's quitting and going into rehab (i.e. taking the deal his father offered).

What few people know is that Robert Downey Jr was already an addict by the time this movie was made, he was using it during filming, and when it called for him to do the scenes where he was withdrawing from drugs he actually was. He stopped using just days before filming so viewers could see what it was really like for an addict to withdraw and suffer so horribly. Many people may disagree with me but that was a stroke of genius on his part so people could understand what addicts faced on and off of drugs. This is what sets RDJ apart from many other actors. His methods of getting an earth-shattering scene for the audience had their downfalls. Though this was a difficult time of his life, I have nothing but respect for the man. It made him the strong talented man he is today. My husband was an addict for most of his youth and struggled for years trying to free himself of addiction. People say drugs are a choice. They may begin that way but they certainly don't remain that way...addiction is a journey few people survive and pull themselves out of. Many either die or spend their entire lives battling their addictions. I used to think it was the life they chose, I now know that this way of life chooses them.

Lol. My God this comment needs removed for some serious misinformation. There are so many reports that cite the same quote from RDJ that his drug use got worse during this film. Withdrawals are an addicts biggest fear and why they relapse or don't seek treatment, as RDJ also experienced. The film was dark and only reminded him of his pain, and to hide it, he used more. This scene, although good, is so clearly exaggerated. He is not actually withdrawing 😂😂 but rather high as hell to cope, as he himself stated.

Julian had lied to him and played him while he turned himself from a drug abuser into a drug addict to hide from his failure in business - Rip knew junkies like Julian were beyond saving, so he was just focused on "settling their account" before he died - Rip's line near the end about "EVERYONE is accountable" is so chilling in that context. What Rip said to Clay about "I am not the problem here; Julian is the problem" was so true. アンドリューマッカーシーが好きだったので、観ました。バットエンドな結末でしたが、比例して全編に流れる「トーマス・ニューマン」のサウンドトラックが物悲しく美しくて素晴らしかった。

  • @Choices2aa

You know this movie the title says it all Less Than Zero b/c they didn't have anything and they may have been rich and young and some of them successful and this movie was so depressing and sad b/c Julian Wells's mother passed away when he was 5 and that's what killed him and made him do drugs and he just drowned in his own despair over the death of his mother and Blair had her own issues too and she was doing cocciane and she was a model and living the high life and Clay was going to school in the East Coast and Julian Wells owed money to Rip (James Spader) 50,000 and Jullian was desperate and alone and fighting for his life and maybe just dying would have been better for him. Robert Downey Jr played this role and he was nominated for Chaplin and then he became an Avenger and kicked his Drug Habit and now is the most successful actor of his generation. He was also in Weird Science. Also Andrew McCarthy was in a couple of good movies and Jami Gertz was in Twister in 1996 and The Lost Boys in 1987 and Solarbabies in 1985. James Spader did the Blacklist (TV)series and was in the Avengers Age Of Ultron...
