Well, the only real way any full dress tourer leaves any 600 or larger displacement sport bike behind is if they allow it to happen. I know because I have both. Wings have a sporting pedigree but they are no match for a bike that has the same (or more) hp on a platform that weighs several hundred pounds less in a chassis that is designed to race. But they are definitely capable of embarrassing an unsuspecting sport rider, if only briefly. 😉
@@daryljones3195 x3 190hp R1 180hp VFR1200F DCT 145hp/185nm GL1800 DCT Unless your pulling 3 hunge I'm on your a55. Most riders tap out. Don't push me if you don't want to be pushed back. Kunt learnt a valuable life lesson that day.
@@Paul_Zernick most street riders can't use 1/3 of what any bike is capable of. Some can get more out of a KTM390 than any liter bike too. All things being equal though, the sport bike will always leave the Goldwing in the fading mirror image. I can hang with some solo sport riders when I'm two up on my Goldwing depending. But not all of them. Nor can GL riders hang with me on my SP if I don't want them to. 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

@@paulh7589 yes & no. I run a '13 R1, '10 VFR1200F DCT as well as my DCT wing. Sports, SPORTS tourer, tourer. 190hp 200kg, 180hp 265kg, 125hp 390kg. Though it must be said ole wing pumps out 170nm! Have the Stage 1 Bren tuner at home. Once flashed big rig will be 145hp & 185nm. Insane! But alas maths is maths. I'm running 500kg+ loaded up for a weeks trip. Solo! 110kg + 25kg gear, 525kg. It's amazing how it hauls that weight, and yes, previous gen was heavier and slightly down on power, so it's as good as it could be. Yet to ride with the tune. But again, it's how you enter a turn that determines how you exit it. And steaming into a bend at 150kph+/500kg+, well it's something. It's, um, different. I definately don't ride it like my VFR. Now, that thing is something. Let me tell ya. Still no light weight by any stretch. 265kg, 1200cc V4. It fukkn moves. You need to manage some weight there also, but about the SPORTIEST sports tourer on the planet. I love that thing. If I really want to have "fun", over multiple days, over thousands of km, in creamy comfort. VFR1200F. But yeah, you can definately have a giggle on the new wing. It's mind bobbling how fast it rips though gears out of a dig. That 7spd DCT in manual mode is fukkn hilarious. Btw, I baught big vif first. Yep! DCT. Love that box. Absolutely suits the Vif & wing. Would not buy manual. Do not use auto on vif. Occasionally use auto on the wing. Just kick back. Tunes on, cold bevvy at hand. Legs up, cruise on, reeeeeest! In that regard, sure, the current wing is a flexible bike. Long n lazy. Pokey n giggly. However, a VFR1200F she is not. BTW, record? 14hr day on the vif. With breaks obviously. Fresh as, for the most part. I wouldn't do that 5 days in a row. Just an example. Can do a long day on it and still tear up twisties like it's a CBR. The wing you do need to muscle to get it sparking up. Not, tbh, what I'd want to, repeatedly. It's tiring. 500kg! Only one bike for fun, and comfort? Wait for it........... K1600 GTL. If that's all I could have as a bike? Oh, I could very easily get by with the VFR. But yeah. 1.6L straight 6⃣. All the bells n whistles. 250kph+. That'd probably be me. But I like my options. But my favourite bike I own. Yeah. Big vif. That 1200 V4 is sumfin. Most mileage but? The wing. So. Go figure? 🤔 🤷🇦🇺

Zero. Best kept secret. Don't care. If it's fukkn awesome, not buying till 27/28 atleast. I wouldn't be racing to buy a 24 though. 40th was a nice bike.
If buying used, the tour is probably the way to go. You can always get the kit to make trunk removal a 15 minute job. If buying new and you're already stretching your budget, bagger is a better value. Cheaper to go that route and add an aftermarket top case. As for the DCT.... had it on my little CTX700 and LOVED it. Now have a (very used) K1600gtl and miss not needing to shift. Going to replace the Beamer with a used GW (DCT for sure)..... and if tour, I'll be missing the GTLs 60 SECOND trunk removal capability. Honda..... WHY THE F DIDN'T YOU COPY THAT??? The Spyder RT Limited also has that ease. FFS Honda, get a clue.
DCT x2. VFR1200F. I'm a luggage whore. That barely has luggage removed either. In fact just got a 45L box to replace the 31L. So it's running 105L now. The wing just looks well put together with the top box. Not a add on or afterthought. It is rock solid also not a hint of wobble. Not hard to remove. Not 5min. But not hard. If you only tour 1 or 2 times a year, buy the delete kit for the rest. I've pulled mine off to fit a 4" back, 1" up adapter. Massive difference. Still looks sweet. Just as rock solid. Last tour removed hitch rack and placed a 35L dry bag on pillion with ease, vs, squeezing in my 26L and having the 18L on hitch rack. Yet to fit or need or use trunk rack, but there if required also. Could take either the 18L or 26L if needed. But light. As in rain gear, jackets, layers, clothes etc. You've seen me use the top box for daily duties. That's a given. Just way to easy to use. Central locking, drop 💩 in walk away. I chuck a million things on the pillion under the cargo net. Again just so easy quick and practical. Do the same on the VFR1200F. Now that Lil fella(265kg 😂😂) is a absolute commute demon. Yet can also grab a week's groceries with ease also, and then some. And I eat alot! I do alot of running around on both my DCTs. Luggage was a non negotiable. Touring? Weekender, 3,4,5 day etc, summer, winter, rain. Never once concerned, oh, 💩, what do I carry. Pack it, bring it. Tented a few times. But only weekenders. Have plans for a larger hitch rack to carry my 60L dry bag if needed. All the gear, somewhat of a idea. 💡🤔

Had one for two years in Australia from new, love the engine, handling good. Gearbox, manual, gearchange absolutely shocking. Quality excellent but the big, big bitch suspension. At the launch the hype on this bike which was Honda's flagship was exciting. But it never lived upto Hondas expectations, the DCT would provide the answers to that awful gearbox. Luggage with virtually no possibility of suspension adjustment, means problems. Coming over a hill into a dip and back into a hill meant a hard slam on the front forks which bottom out really hard like hitting a brick. This was a continuing problem. It was not possible for me to adjust the suspension to get the correct sag and suspension travel (I weigh 75Kg) The answer to turn this into a awesome bike would be buy the DCT version, new decent forks and rear suspension. Wouldn't take it on the track with that suspension.
People are still chucking ohlins on these 15yrs later. Nah, I re-vamped mine. Front n back. YSS/hyperpro. Ohlins? Way overkill for this bike. But everyone's got hyperpro, nitron, wilbers etc on the back by now. DCT is fab. DCT on my 18 wing is not much better. So it's a reliable consistent stable predictable box. Tbh, was never ever going to get this bike without. Got the VFR before the wing. Would I get DCT on a VFR X or africa twin? 🤔🤔 🤔 Not sure yet. Yes, not ruling out adding a X. I end up on dirt regularly, I'm keen to do more. No, don't need to spend $4k+ on suspension. But yes does benefit from aftermarket. It's a daily query on FB groups. I was fine, till I wasn't. Won't rule out more work again at a later stage. Otherwise?? Fukkn weapon. Replaceable? Nope. H2SXSE....... Maybe...... 🤷 Now? Definately not.
Brillant. I’ve only had one short go on one-a 2021 bagger. Loved it. Currently have a Pan, but a Wing will definitely be next. This video bears out my first impressions. Also, it will probably be my last bike, as I’m now 67, and those creeper gears will become increasingly handy, as will the DCT..
You'll love everything. Especially 2 extra pots. I had a CTX1300. My 2nd bike. I have a VFR1200F. I like big bikes, speed & comfort. And well, goldwing has always been the standard. K1600 a close second, but more GTR1400 than GL1800. And if I want the real deal, than the 1200 V4 delivers in spades. I have the big vif with DCT also. Accident? No. Love DCT. Between Android Auto & DCT the main reason I went GL vs K16. Won't rule out a K bike in the future, but with what's out TODAY, no. And am eagerly awaiting a extra treat or 3 hopefully in the 2025 50th anniversary. We're all holding our collective breath.......... BTW there is a BT Moto tuner out now for the 18+. Most guys seem happy. Am I looking at get one? Tbh? As I have 170hp big vif? 🤔 Yeah, not likely.
The Triumph Sprint GT had Side cases and top box removable. Probably not as fast though. Okay bike, used to own one..
Heard of sprints. Just checked again. 96kw. VFR800 78kw. VFR1200F 127kw. Same eras..... '10-ish+. Getting more 800 vibes from it than 1200🤔🤷 I think they were more in competition with each other. The 1200 was a weirdly recieved rooster.
I have the 1200x vfr crosstourer and it’s superb . Same engine but more torque moved down the rev range and less bhp .
Still considering adding ADV. But I smash bush trails heaps on my goldwing...... So ....... Maybe not. Would love to do dirt over 60-80kph but..... 🤷 🤔

@Paul_Zernick honestly, the VFR12 was a better bike as the ZZR1400. Realistically got going just as quick as the ZZR1400, but with shaft drive and guaranteed smooth gear changes. Its not right to compare the VFR12 to the FJR13, GTR14 etc, as they do a different job
Excellent Explanation good service to Humanity and Riders Thanks
I own one and agree
Great video
i own a goldwing but hell, wing riders can be such tools.
Scalpels 🗡 ☠️
I would do that to my son on his Yamaha 650. Then he finally bought an older Goldwing for fun. He called me after an 800 mile Saturday and said, "Now I understand how you could do that to me." LOL And I was in the lap of comfort and luxury the entire time. LOL
Got my eye on a VFR DCT with 100,000 km on it. Any thoughts on issues i may face?
If anyone can pull that off like it’s smooth tarmac, it’s mate! Woohoo!
65km. 40-80kph. Sh1t to pretty manageable. First 10km was corrugated corners. Progressively cleaned up. Had to keep ya concentration but, especially under the shadows later on. Plus sharp rocks. Not interested in a cut tyre.....
@@Paul_Zernick You done real good!
So tell us again how passing a bunch of group riders cruising on the highway is destroying Harleys?
oboy 100klm whats that 55mph?
Thx for sharing, the 147 GTA sure is a great, fun car to drive
FWD is 🗑. Apparently not. Wouldn't have a busso in it without it. It's a right pocket rocket. #gokart Only car to come close, R32. Yet to drive one.
I never got the panniers with mine which I really regret. Unfortunately it now sits parked up with a blown 6th gear and I don't like I ke my chances of finding a mechanic to repair it.
Ask around. DCT?
@@Paul_Zernick non DCT
@@markhingst5368 shouldn't be out of the norm......if you want to keep.🤔
@Paul_Zernick I suspect a very expensive repair, just not sure I want to spend that kind of money on the bike given that it has 125000 km on it. May be better off putting that into a new bike. I would really like something with panniers, quick shifter, better fuel range, same power, cruise control etc etc
@markhingst5368 z1000sx h2sxse gsxs gt .not much out there. No top boxes. K1600 gt/gtl
Seems like a great day on the bike. Minus all the HD litter on the road
Indeed. I asked for it. I started at the tail of a 200-300 Harley ride. Army veterans. Not cool enough to be up the front. Even though I'm a 25yr Commando veteran. Have to have fat useless poge's on pig iron up front to ease their fragile egos. I was not popular at the half way turn around. Fukk em🚫🤣🤣🤣🇦🇺
love my viffer1200... not DCT but love it...has anyone tried to steal your bikes with them being on the street?
Super quiet area. Disc locks. Outside my bedroom. No one comes through here. 1 road in/out estate.
One more reason why I love my gen 3 Hayabusa. 4 analogue dials and a TFT in the middle. Looks damn great
I'm team green. 14R. Same, tachometer, speedo and central lcd. Why I love my goldy. Same left, right and central digital. Have ridden current busa. Very nice indeed. One day maybe ??
What do you think about the rebel 1100 DCT? Love your vids
A lazy NT/AT 1100 with a DCT, why not. Kick back, legs up, forward pegs, tap, tap, tap. It's how I roll on the wing. Only use standard pegs when hammering the twisties. Personally I wouldn't get one. But not everyone wants to cart full bags and 270kg or 390kg around. Me, I don't mind a big rig. I consider my 265kg VFR1200F to be, "light". 1100? I'd get mine in Africa Twin flavour personally.
Hi. Would you sell me your gray side cases? Thank you! I can't find them in Italy.😅👍
Of course not.🤦♂️😉 VFR1200F Forums on fb. Mihai Tomescu. Shrewsbury UK.
Just bought my a8 d3 4.2tdi 2006, i need this setup im in the UK
Which setup is the one in your video, as you have mentioned a few different setup. I like to have exactly the sound in the video... Soooo sweet
@jasoncruz3237 4x magnaflow resonated tips. 8yrs old. No idea today. Running a 6.4 Jeep SRT atm. Will be chucking long tube headers on that soon . Gutted the stock exhaust on it also. And soon to gut oem mufflers on my Goldwing too.
I'm 60 years of age and i ride a VFR1200FD DCT from 2015 great bike greetings from the Netherlands
So long as it doesn't get hit again, hope to still have mine when I'm 60. Love a good sports tourer. Can't think of a direct replacement atm. 🤔🤷💯🇦🇺
oooo echte ik wil er ook een gaan kopen zijn best goedkoop nu
sweet R1 mate
Cheers mate, she's alright for a ole girl. Will do me for awhile. Possible keeper👍🤔
lost all credability once I saw he was in shorts
Don't be shy, you can lick ya lips as much as ya want. Just let me know the toyal by the end of the month and I'll send out The invoice 😎🇦🇺🏋️💪
Who cares? It doesn't invalidate an owners review of the bike.
Where did you get them gloves?
Europe. All my gear comes from the EU. Thse are Macna. Got a heap of em. All my kit is Macna, RST, Alpinestars. There's a heap of sites, one stock more of 1 brand than the other. XLmoto for example has the largest RST range. Best range, best price online from EU. Limited in store variety here in Australia. 9nl8ne,complete product line, have all my sizes, tear fitted here in Sydney, in store. Then order online. Helmets, boots, gloves, leathers, the lot. EU.
Wow - excellent review and commentary. Watched the whole thing! I have an ST1300 and am looking at getting one of these and this helped. Thanks
Had a CTX1300. Baught this not long after. They both came out of Goldwing youtubing. I've got the wing now, traded the CTX for a R1. Granted the CTX is a de-tuned ST, but the VFRs 1200 V4 is no 1300. It is something else. Ride one if you can. I had to have the DCT. Love tech. But you have the option. I think DCT suits. That's me but. Sorry, no ST comparison. 265kg 170hp. Do the maths? Goes in VFR favour some ways🤷😜👍
