The guy who ran into a burning daycare center to save kids is a hero.

My father was a Marine in 'Nam. In a hooch with a couple other men when another guy comes in playing toss&catch with a f**king grenade. They tell him to knock it off, he scoffs, then misses the catch but the pin is caught on his finger. My dad immediately jumps on it. When it doesn't explode in the allotted time, he pulls it out from under him and opens it. It had been made into a dud - the guy was having a joke...
My dad beat the sh*t out of him.
I think because his best friend had just died protecting him (my dad) from a blast - a boobytrap set off by a Navy corpsman (the "doc"). The friend had been yelling at the doc not to touch it, guy didn't listen, and the friend stepped right in front of my dad to save him. Died in my father's arms. He had been two weeks from going home.

A girl needed a blood transfusion and her little brother had the same blood type so they asked him if he would come forth. The boy was hesitant but took a deep breath and sat down. If I remember correctly he said some last words. He thought he was about to sacrifice his life for his sister and that is probably the most innocent thing I've ever heard.

I recently heard about a shooting (can't remember where or when), I just know it was in a bar during a holiday or some sort of concert. During the party, a mentally unstable man (a regular at the bar) started unloading a gun in the bar.
A college man & his friends hid some other people under the pool tables and the guys used their own bodies as a shield. When the shooting stopped, they sprung up, broke open windows, then helped people escape. The guys ran back inside to help more people trapped inside.
When later interviewed, they said it was like an instinct to protect the people around them.
    It was amazing!

This reminds me of the time I stepped between a girl and he boyfriend who was beating her. He immediately turned his aggression on me hitting me a couple times (not sure how many, can't quite remember) before I was able to grab him around the shoulders ramming my head right into his nose busting it. He stumbled back and luckily ran away, I'm not a fighter. Ended up with a black eye, bloodied nose, and a busted lip. Only thought I had was help her. Learned two things from that, my head is freaking hard and people get scared when they get headbutted.
The aftermath is this guy got arrested. I did not try nor did I get her number (you just don't do that in this situation) and everyone went their separate ways.

      @vliegendegieter106 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

You did well for protecting her. I had to do the same with my friend, luckily the guy wasn't aggressive towards me yet because I knew I could never win from him since he was at least a head bigger and twice as broad as me. I just kept myself in between them so that if he wanted to get to her he first had to pass me. He would throw me away and I would come back. At some point my friend sat down crying and I just sat behind her and held her with the knowledge that he couldn't lift us both. We left as soon as he got distracted by the crowd

Good of you to take a beating like that. I always stay armed, being armed and able is a necessity if you're going to defend those who can't defend themselves. A very little bit of led and powder makes for a major equalizer. I luckily haven't had to use it, but have too many people relying on me to put myself in harm's way. At the same time I am not the kind of person who can do nothing.

This was a great video. Some hero's on here. So here is mine but I'm not the hero but the cause of it.
When I was 14ish so over 15 years ago my family went to hawaii. Cousins, uncles aunts grandparents. The whole lot. Best trip ever. But.. one day we went out on a catamaran where we would snorkel. The boat would whistle when it was time to come back and go to a new place. My cousin and I found this enormous sea turtle and decided to follow it. The whistle blows and we are crazy far from the boat. I didn't wear flippers cuz I get brutal foot cramps from them. We were exhausted from swimming and couldn't make it back. We were gonna drown. My father bless his soul sees my cousin and I floundering way out there and noticed us nearly drowning. He swims over and put the both of us on his back and swam us back to the boat. Nearly drowning himself. He saved my cousin and I that day. We didn't tell my mom til after the trip though so she wouldn't freak out. He will always be my hero. Thanks dad.

I've had situations where I was assaulted or attacked or held up. If you are going to fight, you must do it instantly, without hesitation and no holds barred. With whatever you have in your hands at the moment. I have been hurt but I have always walked away and it was always ruled self-defense. Last one, a friend at a small store and guy pulled knife at register. I decided to step in. The expression I was told was most unsettling and the guy startled when I roared at him and he dropped the knife. He moved to grab it, I was next to a counter so I leaned on it (more power and leverage) and snap kicked him as hard as I could in the jaw/chin. I broke bones in my foot. He had a broken jaw, broken teeth, bit some of his tongue off and knocked him out. Before I sat down I did toe that blade away from him... in case he woke up, then plopped down while hanging onto the counter to await help. One more, self defense. Don't underestimate anyone.

When I was probably around 8 or so, I was attacked by a dog, chow/lab mix while I was walking to my bus stop. A parent of two kids that went to my bus stop decided on this day to walk her kids even though they only lived like four or maybe five houses away from the bus stop just bc she had a bad feeling. Anyways, cut to me being attacked by this dog (I have very few memories of it actually happening just remember being shaken around and the school bus pulling up to the stop) he’s basically ripping me apart and trying to drag me back to his house I think, and the kids mom runs over to me and yelled at her daughter to go get my mom (we were neighbors kinda, the backs of our houses faced each other plus I hung out with the kids) and she takes off her shoe and starts hitting the dog with it and starts trying to pull the dog off me, somehow she managed to get the dog off but I’m not sure if it tried to attack her as well or not I’m not sure if I don’t have many memories of it bc of my age or if bc it was traumatic and I repressed it or maybe both, anyways I ended up with lots of stitches (over a hundred if I remember correctly) and really bad scarring on my right boob and right arm (I actually am missing muscle and nerves in my arm and I can make my arm do this weird thing that grosses people out) plus I traumatized her son bc he was still standing where she left him when she ran so he saw everything and ended up needing lots of therapy, plus everyone on my bus witnessed it too and had to talk to some counselors just in case it traumatized them as well. Anyways, I’m not sure what happened with the mom, I don’t remember her name and I’ve long since moved from that house but I’m still really thankful that she happened to be there that day bc she was the only adult around

People usually say bad things about my brother cuz when he was young he grew up in rough place (recorded one of worst cities in uk) but there was this fire in an old peoples home
( around 10pm) and my brother literally got out from his car and went in and he saved many people. There were people already standing outside doing absolutely nothing but film it my brother was the one who had to call the emergency services. Afterwards he left he didnt care about being interviewed just wanted to save them. My brother is a very masculine and never shows his feelings but that night he called me told me what happened and he was crying abit because of how nobody helped them and how kids just dump their parents in old people homes and that the kids had to rely on someone like my brother to save them.

This reminds me of the time me and my little sister went kayaking/canoeing with family and friends. My sister was small so my mom thought we should share to save space. So me and my sister are following behind the rest of my family when a speed boat flys by and knocks me and my sister over my sister and I both have life jackets on because my mom wanted to make sure were safe . The boat we were using still had us in it and we are sinking rapidly. My little sister and I only have a small patch above us for air and I could tell she was freaking out. So I told her to hold her breath so she looked at me and nodded so I grabbed he by the life jacket and threw her out of the boat . I’m currently still stuck there so I un-clip my vest and throw myself out and try to swim . I make it the look on all of my friends and families faces when I surfaced. I couldn’t sleep that night but it made me change my prospective on life.

This is why we train physically, why we stress our bodies athletically and with combat sports. It teaches us to *move*, to think and react in important ways rather than just panicking and failing. I've been in the "if I don't stop this fool he's going to hurt someone" situation, but I'd had some training and some useful practice, so they're not "sacrificing myself" stories. But it's amazing what just a little bit of training can do to help when panic is logical.

We were about to hit a pole at what felt like 50 mph so without thinking I turned the sled to make me slam into the pole shoulder first. I ended up dislocating it but I can't stop thinking about what would have happened to the little boy.

    Here's one!
So my elementary school had these father daughter dance things. Well my best friend and I loved to walk around the playgrounds towards the end of the dance.
Our school had two playgrounds. The one closest to the part with the dance, and the better one in the corner of the school grounds. It's night time, and I've always been wary/sketched out by the houses through the treeline.
Well we were walking up to that playground and I see 2 or 3 (sorry it's been years) guys drinking beers and smoking.
I've always been very protective of my friends and things I love, and my school is one of those things. So I yelled at them to go away (ik, stupid but I was small and just knew it was illegal) and one of them pulled out what i think was a knife (it was silver and shiny) and I remember just becoming perfectly calm, like when you're in a deadly situation and instict just takes over. And I just started walking backwards and told my friend to run as I kept my eyes locked on the guy.
We were perfectly fine, and nobody found the guy because we never said anything as we thought we'd get in trouble

I have a story, I don't know that i intended to sacrifice myself, but i did take a risk that could have turned out that way. I was travelling overseas and volunteering, and visited a local landmark in India, which at the time there was a lot of unrest, the Mumbai hotel attacks had just happened before this and there were bombings of movie theatres and other landmarks nearby. We were all aware this was a possibility. I was in a building and walked past a very large flower display and noticed that someone had stuffed a heavy looking black bag about the size of a computer tower into the gap between the flowers and the inside of the vase. I looked around the room, it had 1300 people in it. Fearing the worst, I grabbed the bag and carried it as quickly and gently as I could outside, and fast walked it away from the building and about 200' into a field that nobody was in, then set it down in a ditch so that if it went off i'd be the only one it could take out. I very much hoped I was wrong, but i figured at least it'd be about the quickest and most painless way to go if I was right. Yes, i opened the bag, I know that was probably stupid, but I didn't really know what else to do with it. Thankfully, it was just somebody's work stuff. I took it back inside and found the owner, they were working in the building and thought it looked like a safe place to leave their stuff while they were off doing something so it wouldn't get stolen. It hadn't occurred to them what it would look like to someone who didn't know.

This guy started walking diagonal into the parking lot of the preschool and was holding a long object. He was holding it like you would hold a rifle when you go hunting. I squeezed my sons hand and moved him behind me as I stared at this guy. I couldn’t tell if what he was carrying was actually a gun but it was the way he carried it that tipped me off. I stared for what felt like 10 minutes but was probably only 2-3 before he got into the parking lot. Turns out, what he’s holding is an umbrella. I was fully prepared to shove my kid back inside the school door and get shot. Thankfully nothing happened and my husband showed up.

I protected my best friend from her abusive boyfriend a few months ago. We were on a party and they got into a fight after which he took her phone and didn't want to give it until she left with him. His so called friends couldn't calm him down, not even his mother could. I just instinctively threw myself between him and my friend even though he easily threw me aside every time, I would still come back. The only thought I had in my mind was that my friend could be at least a little more safe for as long as I stayed in between them. Normally she would be the tough one but now I could see that she had broken down and was crying, especially after he tried to pull his mother out of her car multiple times so he could go and run my friend over. He was so strong he could lift the car but his friends and a bunch of other people held him back from taking his mother out of it. At some point he would just try to grab my friend who was at this point shaking in fear and I knew I couldn't let her go because then it would get worse. I just grabbed her and tried to calm her by telling her that he can't lift us both, that if he wanted to take her he had to take me too. I didn't care about anything but the wellbeing of my friend. She wasn't capable of acting rationally anymore so at some point her now ex boyfriend got distracted by this crowd and I just told her that this was our chance to go and leave. She was telling me of how he would notice and I said no because he wasn't paying any attention to us anymore, not yet so we took our bikes and left quickly.
When we got to her place I stayed with her for the night since she was scared, I told her to ignore him, never go to his place again, to go to the police the day after and also to not use her phone location so he couldn't see where she was. It was only then, when I knew we were safe that I was the one to break down crying. I just found out something new about myself I guess

Small kid started swimming away from a bunch of the tied up boats into open water. His mom was piss drunk and dad was no where to be seen. By the time anyone noticed, the kid was about 200 meters away at a minimum. I stupidly sacrificed my noodle for flotation so I could go faster. I got to him no problem but once I grabbed him he put up a fight. He smacked me, scratched, screamed, punched, kicked, and ultimately tired me out. After about three minutes of struggling with the kid and making it only 10 meters closer to the boats, my backup arrived. Some of the other kids had followed me with flotation devices (which slowed them down). After a while and a huge struggle me and this other kid finally heaved the kid back onto one of the boats. I was only 12 at the time the other kid who helped me was 15ish and this child we went after was only 3 or 4. I was stupid but I did teach me something.
Keep in mind that I am a rather strong swimmer and I grew up around the lake. I have also passed the Lifesaving merit badge in Boy Scouts which is literally a life guard training course. I was a little surprised at how fast the kid wore me out.

The other guy, I discovered, was my neighbour who always threw his leaves over into my garden. He hasn't done it since...

I was around 13 yo. My family re-enacts the pre-1840s so they have horse and wagons. There was a bunch of us kids playong in the wagon while the caretakers were near by. Something happened to spook the horses whom were attached to the wagon. They started full speed sprinting the normal path they took every day. I knew there was a harsh 90 degree right hand turn coming up and the wagon wouldnt make such a turn. It was me and about 7 other kids. We looked at each other while one quickly spats out. "What are we going to do?" I said "We have to jump for it cause if we stay here we could die." One after another the kids started jumping out except this one girl who wouldnt let go of the seat saying she couldnt do it. I grabbed her and with all my might flung her over the side. Did a quick look around make sure everyone was gone and jumpes out. I land on my head/neck. Seeing the wagon trying to take that sharp turn flipping the wagon into a small creek, shattering the wheels and some of where the seats were. I remember thinking we all need to jump to survive and I'll stay back to make sure everyone does it.
I got rewards for bravery at the reenactment. I later join the Navy. And my parents said they knew i was destined for the military for many actions like that i would take in my. Volunteer firefighting, boy scouts, constant practicing of weapon handling techniques, years of TKD, pentjak silat, boxing, and wrestling/ a little jujitsu.
I always wish i could do more to help people in dangerous situations.

Not the most exciting story and it doesn't quite fit the format but here is mine.
I was walking my elderly dog with my little sister her friend and boyfriend.
A guy with a large dog. Probably a staffie walked down the path walking the opposite direction and gave us a wide birth. Probably to avoid having the dogs interact.
A minute or so later we start hearing an argument going on behind us. We all stop for a few seconds to listen. Then my sister apparently heard a muffled scream.
She speed walked back the way we came. I was maybe 15 to 20 feet behind her. The other two slowly followed with my dog. I hadn't heard the scream and didn't want to be out of breath in a confrontation.
Then further along the path I could see to my right and there was the man and his dog along with a woman. As I saw them her shopping was in mid flight. Apparently he saw my sister before me and slammed the woman against a car or something to probably try and scare her off.
My sister went ahead and slammed him in the back with a big bag filled with spray paint cans. Then moved towards my left. He let go of the woman and turned all his attention to my sister. They started arguing and she egged him on. He lunged at her.
But he harnt realised that I'd used my sisters actions as a distraction. I did a wide loop to the right slowly and quietly until I was behind him. As stated he lunged. I lunged faster. He stopped and so did I. Now maybe 6 to 8 feet apart. He turns his body and neck and stares at me and I do my best to convey that I'd #%$€ him up to protect her.
He slowly turned back around and started apologising to my sister and said the woman had stolen his bike. He looked like a 30 something skinhead thug and she looked to be a business woman. We didn't buy it.
He started walking off and several seconds later my sister said we should beat him up or something to that effect. I said that the moment to use violence in self defence or defence of others had passed. We'd be done for it. Plus we where lucky the dog never acted up. I didn't want to fight a guy and his massive seemingly friendly dog if it could be avoided.
We then notice the woman was gone. She'd probably snuck away soon after my sister whacked him in the back.
Then my sisters friend boyfriend and our dog showed up and we collected the spilt shopping the woman left and waited a few minutes. She came back thanked us then left in a hurry.
Wasn't in my mind then and I hadn't thought it since but yeah. Could have gone really bad. Could have had to sacrifice my life or health to protect my sister.
In then end I stopped my sister and that woman from something awful but she was more kinda more selfless. Honestly dunno if I'd have been willing to fight the guy and his dog to save a random woman I don't know. My sisters friend and boyfriend certainly felt as much.

I really enjoyed how the "Alabama, gulf shores.." story is written and it was also kind of comical until you realize he/she didn't save the kid.

1:32 I had something similar happen to me and my sister, though I didn't really do anything special. I think I was about 8 and my sister about 4 or so. We were at a house party of some friends of our parents. We had eaten and the other kids, my sister and me were allowed to run around and play. They had one of the biggest gardens I had seen to that point. You could walk up a slight incline and on top there was a fish pond, one of these dug-in plastic ponds (dunno if that is just a German or European thing), wich was pretty big compared to other plastic ponds. It was also quite deep, at least for children. We were playing around and I swear to god, the next few seconds are probably the only memory of my childhood, that I remember as vividly. I can remember almost everything. My sister was wearing a yellow dress with white flowers all over it. It was pretty warm before, but just before everything went down, it got a little cloudy. I was looking in another direction, when I heard a splash. I turned around to see my little, 4 year old sister in the water. There were 2 boys looking at her, too. They were just laughing. It took a millisecond to comprehend what was going on. Like literally a millisecond. On that short time, I saw my little sisters face, while she was desperately trying everything to stay afloat. I had never seen and have never seen such genuine fear and desperation to and since that day. I rushed over and got her out. I carried her down the hill to my parents, while hearing her cry. She was soaking wet. And so cold. I could feel it soaking into my clothes. Everything was fine, nothing bad happened.
Everytime I think of it I start to cry, even now, 12 years later. Since then I always see red when someone has fun watching someone in danger, or if someone is recklessly putting other people's lives on the line.
I like to think, that I would kill or die, for someone to survive, like when someone is beaten up, I'd rather intervene and allow them to get away by getting beaten myslef, than knowing I didn't do anything.
I am lucky I never had to so far.
I am a very nice person. I will reason with you, even if you hit me, but I dare you to hurt someone else in my precense. I don't care if I get hurt, as long as you get what you deserve.
But well, like I said, that is just what I think I am going to do. I have no idea what will actually happen, but I hope my mental preparation will give me the nudge in the right direction, when it is time for it.

i was ten at the time and was ready to sacrifice my life for this kid. I was outside and i saw my 4-6 year old neighbors kid riding his bike and laghing really hard. i soon relized he was screaming and crying, not laghing. there was a huge dog, at least 150 pounds looked like great dane rotwiler mix. it was barking and trying to bite the kids feet. i tried to get between them but they were going fast. i even lunged at the dog trying to grab it. i was yelling at it the whole time. my only thought was "make it come after me that kid wont die if i can do smething about it." the dog eventually ran off after what seemed like enernity. the kid fell of his bike and i carried him to his porch and got his parents. he got a bruise and some scratches and i got sweaty but we were fine but i was fully prepared to die or loose a limb and i knew if that dog got a hold of that kid he probably wont servive. i will never forget that.

Me, at the time 9yo little bro and 8yo spoilt brat cousin walking down the street. Standing at an intersection green man turns on they try and race to the other side, car speeding and turning. What felt like one step and I threw them both back like 10m and slammed by the car. Wake up to my brother crying and me not able to feel my legs. Bro was crying thought I died, he calls me his hero.
Nothing broken, hairline cracks all over my right leg, right ribs all covered in fractures and cracks. Developed a huge pain med dependence till this day I can't shake.

I had a similar story like the one at 2:18 when I was like 8 (I learned to swim at a really young age) me and my family were at a hotels outdoor pool and it was just me my perennials and my 3 year old sister and 7 year old sister after a while my 3 year old sister didn’t want to swim any more so we took of her floaters and dried her off after a while I was walking back from getting out when I see my pearents telling her to get off the bitten step of the latter at the deep end in slow motion I saw her jump in and instantly ran as fast as I could and beat my dad there I pushed her up above my head holding her up and pushing me down and my pearents pulled her out at the time I really wanted new shoes and was told no after this I asked if I could get them and they still said no :(. Edit:grammar and no periods
