  • Though Ron would tell you otherwise, he is a great banjo picker and absolutely solid behind a mic. The original BoyBand of Bluegrass!

Im 83 y o and have played standard guitar for 70 years. Acoustic bass for 45 years. This song is one of the BG tunes I learned. I have a banjo picking pal
in Finland Ben. Ronnie sells Yates banjos and Ben bought a Yates Skillet Head banjo from Ronnie. My son was visiting me from Finland and knows Ben.
Ronnie sent me the banjo and my son hand carried it on the airliner to Finland. Ben has been playing the Yates Ron sold him thru me for years now.
I like Rons banjo picking on Yates but I and the banjo player in our group love his fiddle playing even more

Mandolin is great. Banjo is also great. Love the "save" the singer did on the 1st verse. That said I truly wish he (singer) would PICK THE MELODY and not just pick runs and "fluff" on the guitar. I am sure he is totally capable of picking the REAL melody of the song on that Guitar I just wish he would have! I get so sad when I hear people pick melody on the guitar and "just to make it fast" they mostly pick runs and unneeded notes. The song sounds GREAT on a guitar. I know I pick it myself. You can always add runs and such to the REAL melody if you like just don't loose the melody completely in the "fancy".
