This is when song writing was an art, singers were as authentic as they come. Etta James captured the essence of that past era. Lyrics used to have meanings that spoke to us.
My dad made sure we listened to all kinds of music when I was young. Etta was on that list. My Dad's collection of music is gone now. So glad I can come here and listen. Thank you so much.

I love Etta James. One of my favorite songs of hers. Thanks to my Pops playing Etta during my childhood. ♥️ I played several Etta James songs at my wedding reception.
One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite singers❤❤❤ Her voice was like no other and she put 100% of her emotions into every song that she sang - a true diva ❤ 🤩🎶🎶🎵🎵
@@mschristi79 Maybe she didn't, we can't know. She was the one thing we just don't find anymore. Her look was unique, her voice was unique. We don't seem to value uniqueness anymore. In later years, when she was much heavier, she was still beautiful.
Ive got this track on Ettas the Chess Years 3 disc collection but had to click on this she is on the same pedestal as Aretha for me both awesom3 performers with a time served apprenticeship in the music which provided some the soundtrack to our lives must dig put my Etta CDs
I must disagree! Not just one of the best, but absolutely, positively THE BEST EVER! RIP Miss Etta. Forever thankful!!! THANK YOU for sharing your talent with us!
I wasss losing the man that I love and all I could do was cry. Thank you Etta for understanding everyone has as much passion for their strengths as their weaknesses. Sometimes the emotions just need to EXPLODE! Luckily enough late generations have timeless musicians like you to facilitate the process. xoxo
Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees have taken their seat on the chair of Moses. Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens (hard to carry) and lay them on people's shoulders, but they will not lift a finger to move them. All their works are performed to be seen. They widen their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels. They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues, greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation 'Rabbi.' As for you, do not be called 'Rabbi.' You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers. Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven. Do not be called 'Master'; you have but one master, the Messiah. The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted."
one of the very first hits written by Barry Gordy (Motown). Etta explained the original cut, Leonard Chess would get in the audio booth with her, pinch and poke her when he thought she should 'squawl.' "I'd come out of there black and blue from him.." On the original, listen carefully to the difference between the first and second RICE on the last verse. That has to be Leonard jabbing her.
Wonder if that bandage on her wrist was self inflicted? She was such a tormented soul. She had such a hard life but she left us with so much. It's a shame this world is so rough on people.
OMGGGGG I would love to have these pics. please let me know where hyou got them from. were they all from the internet.. i been looking for some pics of her. im creating a collage of me singing and playing my piano and my favorite singers.
today, my crush for 2 years got a girlfriend. and i could tell he was falling for her, not me. i can feel this song so much. like all i could do is cry ;(
Escuché sonar las campanas de la iglesia, I heard church bells ringing, Escuché un coro cantando. I heard a choir singing. Vi a mi amor caminar por el pasillo. I saw my love walk down the aisle. En su dedo, colocó un anillo, oh, oh. On her finger, he placed a ring, oh, oh. Los vi tomados de la mano I saw them holding hands Ella estaba parada allí con mi hombre. She was standing there with my man. Los escuché prometer hasta que la muerte nos separe. I heard them promise 'til death do us part. Cada palabra fue un dolor en mi corazón. Each word was a pain in my heart. Oh. Oh. Todo lo que podía hacer, todo lo que podía hacer era llorar. All I could do, all I could do was cry. Todo lo que pude hacer fue llorar. All I could do was cry. Estaba perdiendo al hombre que amaba I was losing the man that I loved, y todo lo que pude hacer fue llorar. and all I could do was cry. Y ahora la boda ha terminado, And now the wedding is over, Arroz ha sido arrojado sobre sus cabezas. rice has been thrown over their heads. Para ellos, la vida acaba de comenzar, pero la mía está llegando a su fin. For them, life has just begun but mine is at an end Oh.
@@angiesalman I heard Beyonce first, but when I heard Etta... Man, that was awesome. I was breaking up with my boyfriend then and this song in Etta's version was special for me. Beyonce is a good singer, in her version you can feel a lot of anger, it's too much, I think, Etta's version is better to me, cause I can feel the sorrow and pain in her voice more, than her anger, that's what I felt to my man. 1 of the greatest women vocalist of all time. Hands down!!!
👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿Thank you sir.thank you.
One of the greatest voices of all time
This live version sounds better than the studio version and that piano makes the song so much more soulful
I find the piano a little too high in this mix. Love that fender bass man and guitar is no slouch either.
+Neil McBurney I hear you brother
Your so right
She was one of those rare popular music performers who sounded superior in live performances rather than pre-recorded tracks.

If you ask me she is still prettier than many modern "singers"
Sad thing is I dont think she realized how beautiful and amazing she was...
