i really appreciate your effort to save plants from drying. i got ideas from this video that will help me in my project how to educate people to keep earth clean and green thanks
Thank you so much for this idea. I am glad I ran into your video, I will do this procedure that you simply instructed. we're going a weekly get away, your footage is straight to the point and direct, i thank you for this video. have a good day. ~marvin~
Useful tip: wrap your pot with plastic bags with water then knot the top to prevent quick evaporation. Same effect as the plate method but could last for 2-3 weeks.
last time while I was away I leave a bunch of food to compost but completley open when I returned after 9 months I found that some of my plants so much that I needen a new pot and I also had tomatoes and chia.
Instead of the usual soda bottle self watering planter.... I just need to upgrade the water source. I'll put it a longer wick. Instead of the soda bottle's bottom half, replace it with a full *5 gallon* water container. Duct tape the "pot" to the 5 gallon container to secure it.
Hi, i will try the method 1, but how to know if 1 "rope" is enough for each plant/pot size? Do you really need to put the rope in the soil or you just can let the drops fall, by just put the rope over the soil? Thanks!
@@andreeacoman89 what's the difference between what he suggested and the saucer method? doesn't the saucer, which is filled with water, help to cause gnats or fungi? maybe sprinkling some cinnamon on the soil would help?
yeah. a lot of these tips are awful. and according to the video, the saucer was supposed to collect rain water. If there's rain, then there's no need for the saucer. not to mention, all that still water is a mosquito breeding hazard..
Well if you leave it that way forever eventually yeah root rot but as soon as you're done with your vacation just take it out better than not having water
For option 3 wouldn't there need to be a hole in the top of the bottle too to allow the water to drip out? When i try this without a hole in top the water still stays inside the bottle.
Long trip:3 days…. I was looking for a guide to give enough water for at least 2 weeks. Water dispenser that I’ve bought or are too fast or completely stuck with a drop of water which stay swinging for hours and hours….
For the 3rd method, wouldn't we eventually form a vacuum inside the bottle, due to the water being expelled out of the bottle not being replaced with air for the surrounding, thus eventually stopping water flow?
I would also think that once the soil is dry enough, air will enter the bottle from the same opening to equalize the pressure. Just like when you turn an uncapped bottle upside down you get alternating water and air flows
Using the string method, why is it necessary to bury the end of the string in the plant soil? Couldn't I just coil it around on the surface of the pot? I could do that and not disturb the plant roots in the pot.
because then only the top of the soil would get watered. the surface-level roots would absorb all the water before it can seep to the bottom. buy burying the string, you get a more even moisture level across the entire soil depth, top to bottom

@@parnika1751 i can help first click play then watch the video it will tell you how to do it if you you want a permanent solution just keep adding water or make a automatic irrigation system with a raspberry a moisture sensor and a pump(you could buy one but why do that when you can make it)
If you create a temporary terrarium which collects whatever water that evaporates and direct the condensation back into the plant, the water will recycle itself. This will buy you more time while you are away for more than a week.
I can better this on basis of my ideas and skills i can make a prograam and electronic system which will give water to plant according to requirements by checking wetness of soil if anyone required this system contact me 😊
Nah I don't trust friend and neighbors to water my babies. They will either forget, under water, or over water. None of them garden or know anything about plants. Lol. I may try the empty soda bottle method in my garden bed. I'll use 2 one on each end as it's a 10 ft bed. For the plants in pots two of them have a design in the pot itself where you could fill the bottom with water so I'll be doing that for those two and for the other six I'm going to do a pot with water and use water wicking rope coming out of it for those plants I think I'm just going to keep them on my porch so they get some light but not direct light.
I use hydro spikes/stakes that fit any water bottle. You can buy the spikes for a few dollars at your local DIY. For the bigger plants, I just place two in a pot.
Has happen to some of you to use these methods, come back from holidays and find your plants dead? To me this happened last year 😢It doesn’t work for long periods.
I once told my cousin to take care of my fish like 12 one. Returned after 4 days to find it was turned to sth like a toilet with awful smell and all fish died except for one and its still alive and i take care of it
Your ideas are old 😃 I will going and making a clock which will give power to my homemade water pump motor and through pvc pipes hole it will go on plants something thug right
