@jihcodd1131 Were you searching on gardening topics ? I’ve been looking for instructions on how to make a simple garden trellis. I guess the algorithm figured that 𝙖𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 I build a trellis, I’ll need to know what to do with it.
In my town, you can not put up a retaining wall on your property line, even if all of it is on your property. Retaining walls need to be X feet away from the neighbor's property line.
If the neighbors put the wall up....How do you justify, attaching anything to that wall...and then planting to grow into the wall..????? I could never do that to someone else's property....is it on these people's property or the neighbors...Do they have permission??? Is the block concrete or cinder?
haha i was searching for a comment like this too, because i had the exact same question.People actually put up a wall on their side too if they want to decorate it.
Before attaching wood trellis I put cut, small, round PVC ,(pipe) spacers at intersection, then drill through wood and round spacer. And now a person can get the Vine through that spacious GAP, with great ease. ( yes, you could paint the spacers, However, they are going to be covered with vine soon... so why do that? Also, if you paint them, the will peel...and then you have to deal with that fall-out... better to just leave them white. )
I think they find it an eyesore because the wall is made from cheap concrete blocks that are mainly used as a foundation for other materials. Kind of sad, I know.
You put the trellis on back to front, the horizontal laths should be against the wall to allow space between the wall and the wood to tie in the plants. They will then have space to grow up the wall.
I have a vine that's creeping across the eight foot block wall put up by the company over my back (well, their back...) fence. When the leaves fall the tracery of the vine is very attractive through the winter.
Even if the neighbors gave permission I can't see ever attaching something to a neighbors property like that, mainly just due to the fact that if it isn't mine I shouldn't be touching it. Another reason I wouldn't touch it is that the wall was open on top (no coping) not core filled (see 3:23) and had no drainage provisions; it's gonna fail. Guess who the neighbor is going to blame when it fails after you poked it full of holes to put up that trellis. Seems like an awful lot of work when all that was needed was some nice bushes.

The presence of the trellis will give the owner of the wall reason to have grievance against the neighbor who attached a trellis to their wall should the wall ever fail.
