Axis and Allies Global 1940 Solo Game 3/Allied Victory?

  • This video is a turn by turn description of my third game of Axis and Allies Global 1940. It looks like the Allies have got their first win. But I wasn't totally sure about the victory conditions in the Global War version. Feel free to leave comments clarifying the victory conditions when you play Global 1940 as opposed to playing just the European or Pacific versions.

    I finally recognize the poker chips that you are using. Lucky Horseshoe Clay Poker Chips! I really like the way those look. They are now my second favorite after the Laurel Crown Poker Chip set.

      Ok. Thank you for the information. I have a lot of Board Game Ceramic Poker Chip/Plaque designs that are ready for print. 1830, 1862, Axis & Allies, Mega Monopoly, Power Grid. I have had BR Pro Poker and Sunfly Casino & Equipment make samples for me. All I need now is the money. 😂

    Thanks for the video. Great game!
    With the victory conditions, I play a house rule that Axis must either; hold any 7 VCs for 3 rounds. So there can’t be a technical win, by just holding them for 1 round and then definitely would lose 1 or more the following round.
    Or; Axis must conquer 2 of the major Ally’s Capitals and hold for 3 rounds. (Moscow, London, Washington DC).
    Or; Axis must conquer 1 of the major Ally’s capitals and 2 of the minor Allies. (India, Australia, France) and have control of them and at least 7 VCs for 3 rounds.
    This stops Egypt being the most crucial place, as it’s too easy for Japan to conquer and hold the 3 VCs in China and Germany to conquer Moscow, Leningrad and Stalingrad.
    Egypt isn’t even a minor Ally, it’s just a British colony, so it’s ridiculous to say that all the Allies would suddenly surrender upon either London or Moscow and Egypt falling, and it means one side must have a clear decisive advantage over the other. Sometimes the Allies have way more hardware and more income, but loses bc of the standard 7 VCs victory conditions.
    The Allies are free to surrender at any time.
    I also give Allies a bid starting bonus of 15, including 1 Anzac infantry on New Guinea. To give Anzac a sporting chance, if Japan destroys the Anzac navy on round 1. The other 12 can be spent freely. Personally I like to buy a British destroyer, to put with their cruiser in SZ 91 by Gibraltar and an Artillery piece in Sudan to help with mopping up the Italians in East Africa, but there’s many alternative options that are equally viable.
    Lastly, I play with Technology dice rolls, bc WW2 was all about Tech advancements as all wars are, and Low Luck in everything. The battle dice, the tech dice, the AAA and the bombing factory damage. This makes factory damage always be either 5 or 6, per bomber that succeeded.
    This just makes it fairer for the bombers and the factories. Bc losing bombers at a cost of 12 each just to AAA, when there’s no defending planes scrambling, makes it impractical to bother bombing and WW2 was largely defined, by who could bomb who the most. This also makes it prudent to have fighter defenders instead of just relying upon the AAA and sheer luck that’s skewed in favour of the AAA, over the course of the war.

      * With bid starting bonus. You may not build anything and you must place all units in a territory that already has one of the same nation’s units in. With the only exception being the Anzac inf in N.Guinea, I made a special rule for that bc I got sick of people getting lucky and wiping out the Anzac navy in round 1 and then going all out against Australia and India. So there can be no balance in the game and no way for Allies to get back into the game. Bc the USA can’t send help through Australia and Japan has unstoppable momentum with the income.
      There are formulas for Axis to win the game in 3 or 4 rounds, with the out of box rules and the USA basically loses the war before it’s started.
      With my House Rules setup, called Flash Gordon’s Challenge, it’s as equally balanced as possible and no preset formulas, are guaranteed to win the game.

    SOME ADVICE: Next time buy the Germans fewer tanks and much more INFANTRY. Read the rulebook (especially concerning factories), use the kamikaze option, and many other things I could name but the most important thing would be an adjustment in your strategy namely: TO THINK OFFENSIVELY for the axis especially but for all countries. To have units not being used is akin to not having them at all. I know you put a lot of work into this video and your games are improving gradually. I look forward to seeing if you continue to advance in your grasp of A and A. Please use these thoughts to improve your game and give us an improved game 4.

      Tanks are offensive, you contradicted yourself and the Axis almost won. Had Japan just held the 3 VCs in China, Germany and Italy could’ve captured Egypt relatively easily.

    Great video! I watched immediately. It doesn’t look like the Anzac Dutch New Guinea therefore you would not get the 5 ipc bonus for them. Also, I don’t think Japan can attack Mongolia until they are Russian or all neutrals become pro allied. A minor ic can only be bombed for 6 ipc maximum. Minor ic aren’t wiped out either if you’re playing second edition. Why didn’t China do anything after they got back in it? Did you kill them so fast they didn’t even appear? The allies were going to win because of Tokyo falling. Did you ever use your Kamikazee? They stop coastal bombards. I’m not complaining in any way. I just curious about what we didn’t see.

      I believe Russia or Japan can break their non aggression pact with each other at anytime. If Japan attacks Russian territories adjacent to Mongolia than the Mongolian rule takes effect. Japan avoided that initially by attacking Russian territories not adjacent to Mongolia. You are correct minor ic can only be bombed for 6 and major ic for 20. Everyone the FEC liberated Chinese territories Japan would take them back before China could re enter the game. I forgot all about the kamikaze rule for Japan. Thanks for the reminder. I'm nor sure if that would have prevented Japan falling or not. No worries I appreciate the feedback!

      @@panzerj3158 yes the kamikaze might have saved the Japan capital or changed earlier turns. I’ve had 5 of 6 of them hit before. I’ve also had 1 of 6 hit too . They really are good to stop the coastals. I assume you use the convoy boxes too? I understand that Japan and Russia can be at war at anytime. It’s just that Mongolia doesn’t go Russian until sometime after japan’s combat move. Therefore you don’t want to attack them until they are officially Russian. Otherwise all true neutrals become pro-allied. Are you playing second edition? First edition was broken so they came out with second edition to fix it. Second edition you keep minor factories forever. I’d love to see 1 more of your global 1940 games but if you want to move to another version I’d watch that too.

    I think it is important to use the Norway/Denmark strat as early as u can it’s hard for the axis to hold Norway and it makes for the axis to have to defend Berlin and split there forces

    Hey! Good game! I am confused as to why you remove minor factories after conquering them (for example F. East Indies and all russian minors). I think this is a mistake. Thanks for the games!

    I would have kept playing, as Europe was still in play, but with the US putting everything in Europe it was likely an allied victory eventually.

    Wow! That was some battle! I think there needs to be a rule tweak about Capital $ being given to Italy right after the USA/UK work so hard to liberate France only for the Italians to swoop in and steal the $ before France even gets to go. With the turn order the way it is, and the spacing on the board...so much is leaning in favor of the Axis as it is...IMHO I would think a House Rule to correct that is in order...What do you all think of that suggestion?

      To clarify...France does not receive their IPC's until it is there turn...so if Italy does recapture Paris, then their IPC's still go up 4 BUT NO capital $ is given to them.

    Love this game but always found it was a blob party and there was nothing really to prevent that said blob mentality. This game is missing a cap rule on provinces of some nature, maybe supply lines should be added to limit the blob.

    i am bob. i subscribed to this channel today. with that said, i am very critical on how people play. US needs to go Atlantic full force. put presser on Germany and save Russia AUS builds inf and naval units to keep japan away. wars are won or lost on the ground. massive air and massive navy, it's all bullshit. ground troops win the game. just trying to help. .

      The allies die strat bomb Western Germany several turns. I think it was a big reason for the allied win.
