Same here, in fact I'd say that basically every movie I've seen from Clint Eastwood(as a director) has been quite good to great and worthy of the occasional rewatch. The only exceptions I can really think of were Jersey Boys and 15:17 to Paris (which suffered by the odd choice of reenacting events using the actual people involved and not actors)
Of course, if you're the sort of person who thinks characters have to be 100% good or 100% evil then you won't enjoy it. Unfortunately we live in a world where a lot of Twitter activists dislike complex characters. So there's elements of negativity and discrimination about Walt in the film. But the whole point of the film is to show how he overcomes that and helps out his neighbour. Can't really say more without ruining the plot.

The advertising on that "The Wrestler" DVD is hilarious how misleading theyre trying to be!!! Its a great movie, I LOVE it. but its FAR from ANYTHING anyone would call "THE RAGING BULL OF WRESTLING MOVIES" or "THE ULTIMATE MAN FILM"
It's so disingenuous to the actual film I almost feel like it's intentional. Like how Spec Ops The Line was advertised as just another military shooter.
Interesting link between the last 2 films. 'Sugarscape', the publication that reviewed 'The Mortal Instruments', was owned by the Hearst Corporation, a company founded by William Randolph Hearst who was portrayed in 'The Cats Meow'!
Fun fact about "The Passion of the Christ": the dude playing Jesus got struck by lightning during filming. Apparently nobody involved could take a hint.
If I was Mel I'd be calling up the studio like "Yeah, we're halting production and destroying all the footage. Why? Because God let off a warning shot at Jim that's why!"
Love the wrestler, Darren Aronofski is a genius. It's crazy how most of his movies deal with addiction and self destructive behavior in one form or another.
Wouldn’t a zero-disc edition be like those games that have a physical case you can buy from a store, but then all it has inside is a slip of paper with a download code? Have any movies actually been released like that? Now I’m curious
How much would someone, or a group of people, have to donate for you to watch and record your reactions to the films you haven't seen in these DVD groups? Preferably all in one sitting.
The Mike Tyson tattoo thing happened but it was the 3rd movie I think. It was the tattoo artist that sued the movie rather than Tyson himself though. I'm pretty sure the whole case was settled to keep the movie in theaters though and most likely the home version changed it.
I love it when they list "animated and sound interactive menu" as an extra feature. Were there ever DVDs which didn't have menus--pop them in the player, and they automatically played AND YOU COULDN'T MAKE THEM STOP
I've only seen 1 DVD without a menu and that was my DVD of K-1 Grand Prix 2002, which was a kickboxing show from Japan. And I have about 1000 DVDs in my collection.
There were actually a whole range of them in Turkey with "Press-n-Play" branding until about 7 years ago. They were versions of films with no menu, no extras, cost more than regular DVDs for some reason yet they sold much more apparently.
Gran Torino is an excellent film. Definitely recommend it, it was my introduction to Clint Eastwood. It's about a Korean War veteran overcoming his bias towards Koreans after an Asian family moves in next door to him.
The fact that I got on ad for some dolls called "Na! Na! Na! Surprise Teens" on a youtube channel that reviews tat tells me all I need to know about the product advertised But hey on the bright side I did see that and go "huh, maybe I should buy one and save it to ship to Stuart in 20 years for no reason"
Stuart I hope you see this comment. Gran Torino is a really uplifting story about a crotchety old man and a kid bonding after the kid nearly steals the old man's car. The old guy being bitter about Hmong Vietnamese people basically taking over his neighborhood, but becoming accepting through exposure. Meanwhile he teaches the kid to be a responsible adult and a good person. Also the ending will definitely make you bawl your eyes out. It's a damn good and underrated movie. Just in a bittersweet sort of way. It's definitely worth a watch, or 20. Despite Clint Eastwood's faults, he made a real gem with Gran Torino.
They look like charity shop shelf pulls. It’s sad how much they have dropped in value , I remember the days of selling them for a quid each at boot sales real easy. Now I struggle to sell x200 for £10
Exactly, thank you. Not saying that because I knew it or something, but by logic, you know. Because Mike Tyson, is in one of these damn things!!! So why would he sue them, it's not the logical thing, unless the guy is a complete d*ck.
@@bettyswollocks1670 including the Capitol ya’ll tried to wreck? Just because I have Gestapo in my username doesn’t mean I’m a Nazi. I like Orwell and freedom so fuck off.
Regarding The Hangover 2, I believe it was Tyson's tattoo artist who sued over them reusing a specific design, because Tyson doesn't own that design. Same reason why most wrestling action figures don't recreate the wrestlers' tattoos accurately, because they generally don't want to pay the original tattoo artist to reuse their design.
I remember Greenfingers! It's about a group of prisoners who take up gardening as a reform program, and go on to enter some big national gardening competition. No idea how close it was to reality, but the movie was enjoyable enough.
Regarding Argo: the "based on a selection" by Tony Mendez, he was a CIA officer, and his wife Jonna (still alive) was the CIA head of disguises. They both wrote some crazy books, and Jonna has done some really cool videos recently about her days at the CIA. That said, overall while Argo was a great film, in reality Canada did the lions share of the work in getting the hostages out, not the US as depicted.
The Mortal Instruments movie, you were correct, it was meant to have addition movies. So they turned it into four seasons on Netflix called Shadow Hunters.
Fun Fact: If I am correct, I think the director who did Step Up 3 (or a different Step Up movie) also directed Make Your Move, a bland South Korean-American co-produced modern dance reimagining of Romeo and Juilet set in New York starring k-pop idol BoA (yes, the same BoA who sang the opening theme of Tales of Graces) out of all people as the female lead.

Studio executive: How do we market L.A. Confidential DVD?"
Studio executive #2: "boobs"
The advertising on that "The Wrestler" DVD is hilarious how misleading theyre trying to be!!!
Its a great movie, I LOVE it.
but its FAR from ANYTHING anyone would call "THE RAGING BULL OF WRESTLING MOVIES" or "THE ULTIMATE MAN FILM"
It's so disingenuous to the actual film I almost feel like it's intentional. Like how Spec Ops The Line was advertised as just another military shooter.
The Ultimate-Man Film? The Ultimate Man-Film? What does it even mean
Jim Caveezel?Caviezel? (Yeah, the guy from the first one)
@@iimMrBrightside Yup.
I always get his surname wrong so just refer to him as Jimmy Christ.
when even God says your movie is just an overbudgeted exploitation flick and he prefers Life of Brian, you're doing filming wrong.
If I was Mel I'd be calling up the studio like "Yeah, we're halting production and destroying all the footage. Why? Because God let off a warning shot at Jim that's why!"
Ashens) "My name is Alice and I remember everything" said in the tone of Hannibal Lector
Resident Evil starring Anthony Hopkins would be much better.
Love seeing a Moodysson film in here. Show Me Love is my favorite movie of all time, and Together is a damn good follow up.
Who Frames Roger Rabbit ends in 'bit'.
*Framed. You were so close to making an excellent joke, but blew it due to the spelling. What a shame...
What I'm getting from this is that you can buy 80 DVDs for £12 but for the love of God, don't.
I would have nowhere to put them!
I would buy 80 anime DVDs and I damn well did 5 times.
@The Annoyed Mr Floyd 80 anime dvds would cost you a bajillion pounds 10 years ago
@@theannoyedmrfloyd3998 80 anime DVDs for £12? Are you sure you actually bought them and it wasn't just a dream you had?
Actually, I’m surprised at how many of these are watchable.

If you're using an external mic, perhaps a ground loop isolator would eliminate the noise you're getting whilst recording off of the mains.

for anyone wondering death train came out in 1993 and ashens being born in 1976, he was only 16 years old when death train was released
I was about 19. Good times, people used to go out to the pub, socialise before the internet ruined everything :)
Its weird he says that he remembered being really young, Implying a way younger age, but in reality it was just his mid teens.
Love the wrestler, Darren Aronofski is a genius. It's crazy how most of his movies deal with addiction and self destructive behavior in one form or another.
The Passion of Chris Tarrant, starring Michael Sheen, Steve Punt and the hot priest from Fleabag
I haven't even seen the series Fleabag but I knew who you meant and...yeah 🤤 lol
7:10 Batman Begins, 1 - Disc edition
Thanks for not selling the zero disc edition.
This is the first time of heard a DVD with a 1-disc edition.
I have the zero disc editions of every film ever made.
Wouldn’t a zero-disc edition be like those games that have a physical case you can buy from a store, but then all it has inside is a slip of paper with a download code?
Have any movies actually been released like that? Now I’m curious
@@psmstr that's a good point.
@@psmstr yes I've actually seen a copy of the last spiderman film in Tesco that came in a little cardboard box with a code inside
It was the tattoo artist that sued because it was his design, but yes. I believe they settled it in the end.
It was the tattoo artist and they did settle.
I only know this because I watched a video on frivolous lawsuits and this was featured.
How much would someone, or a group of people, have to donate for you to watch and record your reactions to the films you haven't seen in these DVD groups?
Preferably all in one sitting.
Ashens needs to go on RLM.
This video has the same vibe as digging through the Wal-Mart $5 DVD bin looking for hidden treasures.
The Mike Tyson tattoo thing happened but it was the 3rd movie I think. It was the tattoo artist that sued the movie rather than Tyson himself though. I'm pretty sure the whole case was settled to keep the movie in theaters though and most likely the home version changed it.
i think i like these vids so much because it's clear that stuart is a film buff and he gets to talk about something he likes.
I love it when they list "animated and sound interactive menu" as an extra feature. Were there ever DVDs which didn't have menus--pop them in the player, and they automatically played AND YOU COULDN'T MAKE THEM STOP
it was esp worse when you couldnt find the remote and you'd go insane from repeating clips in the menu
"Interactive menus" is up there with "1 disc edition" in terms of just having something to fill space on the box
"How about you" - saw it over this last Christmas period - It was 'nice', predictable and harmless. I think your evaluation from the cover was spot on
Gran Torino is an excellent film. Definitely recommend it, it was my introduction to Clint Eastwood. It's about a Korean War veteran overcoming his bias towards Koreans after an Asian family moves in next door to him.
The fact that I got on ad for some dolls called "Na! Na! Na! Surprise Teens" on a youtube channel that reviews tat tells me all I need to know about the product advertised
But hey on the bright side I did see that and go "huh, maybe I should buy one and save it to ship to Stuart in 20 years for no reason"
Ship it to him now, he'll review it in 20 years
@@TheTreyBlue The level at which you are absolutely correct is disturbing 🤣
I'm waiting for them to go on clearance, so I can make something neat out of them.
I’ve been seeing those ads a lot lately too. And they always pop up in the weirdest places like Warhammer 40K videos.
0:25 'I would have referenced Sweet Dreams there'
*Stuart references Sweet Dreams*
'This is why he's my favourite TH-camr'.
Apocalypse is my favourite of the Resident Evil films, if only because the Nemesis was just a big guy in a suit.
Gotta appreciate a good suit.
I am simultaneously pleased and ashamed that I too immediately think of Privateer when I see Clive Owen.
The Wrestler is a fantastic movie. Something both fans and non-fans can enjoy.
for sure. it shows how scummy that avenue of entertainment can be.
"nah this is that mel gibson one where there's like, jesus, innit?" lmao
They look like charity shop shelf pulls. It’s sad how much they have dropped in value , I remember the days of selling them for a quid each at boot sales real easy. Now I struggle to sell x200 for £10
"Everyone is a target" well it is an American film.

Mike Tyson didn't sue the producers of The Hangover 2, the tattoo artist did because the tattoo was his original design.
Exactly, thank you. Not saying that because I knew it or something, but by logic, you know. Because Mike Tyson, is in one of these damn things!!! So why would he sue them, it's not the logical thing, unless the guy is a complete d*ck.
Batman Begins's Gotham was lit. Then they just made it into NY for some reason.
*Chicago
Chicago in Dark Knight, then New York in Dark Knight Rises.
there have been plenty of well lit cities over the last year or so in the USA
@@bettyswollocks1670 including the Capitol ya’ll tried to wreck? Just because I have Gestapo in my username doesn’t mean I’m a Nazi. I like Orwell and freedom so fuck off.
@@MatiPryjomko yeah, TDKR actually used like 7 or 8 different cities mashed together, but I totally agree it feels the most like New York.
I look forward to your reviews of each and every one of these movies.
I remember Greenfingers! It's about a group of prisoners who take up gardening as a reform program, and go on to enter some big national gardening competition. No idea how close it was to reality, but the movie was enjoyable enough.
Oh Mr Ashens, you do spoil us.. 😁👍🏻
America exaggerating its accomplishments in international politics and diplomacy? Tell me it ain't so!
Bloody love Death Train, my 2nd favourite Brosnan movie 👍🏻
The Town is one of my all-time favorite films. I have seen it no less then 5 times.
The Mortal Instruments movie, you were correct, it was meant to have addition movies. So they turned it into four seasons on Netflix called Shadow Hunters.
Which is much better then the movie. Except for the final season, absolutely rushed nightmare
@@jackieelizabeth8614 Agreed.
Seeing some of these DVDs who would pay the prices of them from a charity shop.
Had to argue with a guy in a charity shop once because they were 2 for £1 and there was only one film I wanted.
I would choose the worst DVD they had and then bin it immediately lol
The town was Pete postlethwaite last major film release did 1 more independent film and then sadly passed

That explains why I've not seen him in any films lately.
The resident evil movie series is fantastic for getting a group of friends together and cracking jokes as you watch, love em for that reason alone
Clearly you've never watched any decent films like the 1993 film Deadfall featuring all kinds of famous people who should know better
You me and dupree isn't for everyone but i say give it a watch its just a fun movie
I love how Ashens just skipped past THAT Transformers movie.
You are the only man that gets me excited when he spreads his DVDs all over his brown couch.

22:50, ah, the Serpentine font, as seen on low-budget sci-fi, automobile maintenance stuff, and the logo of Dance Dance Revolution games from the 90's.
35:32 There's the possibility that the $12 is just the postage, or a percentage of it...
I remember seeing bits of Norbit while channel surfing on a hotel TV like 10 years ago. It was horrendous but not as bad as Pluto Nash.
The Cat's Meow has Eddie Izzard as Charlie Chaplin and is quite good.
Eagle Eye is one of my favorite movies, very chaotic and entertaining.
I know I saw You, Me and Dupree, I remember nothing about it. I didn't even remember who was in it....so I guess that says how good it is, absolutely 100% forgettable.

This was really cool to see lots of movies I have never heard of that I should have. What I like about these videos is your comments on the movies. Your comments sound like they are from the average person and you go over your opinion in a very friendly and casual way, and it feels far less snobby or like it’s trying to convince us to like or not like what you do.
