    The mesh on the top is so you can stargaze on clear nights, enjoy! 😁

    You can use walking poles to support the short pole either end using pole mushrooms with slots in that you can feed the grommet/webbing through, it makes the tent extremely sturdy and the guys above the doors don't pull the tent down. I've got the 3 person version and in warm weather with a clear sky, you can roll half the flysheet back and watch the stars.

    You need to try the tent in a strong wind with and without the guylines fitted. They do a superb job of keeping the tent rigid. As for the mesh, we have used ours is some horrible weather and never had condensation on the inner. Other tents have had it streaming down. I think the mesh is perfect at preventing inner condensation in bad conditions.
    Just my experience of the 3 man version.

      ive used this tent many times in strong winds .but the guylines are rubbish .as for the mesh . yes it does stop condensation ..but can be abit drafty at times 👍 tfw kev

      You are damn right about the guylines! The MSR Elixer is the nicest and best tent ever!! It is very very spacious and it keeps you safe and dry.

    MSR Elixir 2
    My likes:
    - very spacious
    - very practical with all the pockets
    - looooove the design of the inner tent(this is the best feature of this tent), including the mesh, and the fact that you actually can use only the inner tent on a warm day. (it has to be one of the best looking inner tents on the market)
    - the ventilation is very good
    My dislikes(it is mostly all about construction):
    - Why does MSR not provide plugs enough for all attachment points?
    - They dont even provide guidelines for all attachment points, which makes this tent unusable in windy conditions straight out of the box.
    - The flysheet does not go all the way to the ground. The gap is so big that if you come into a rainstorm, the rain will splash straight on the inner tent.
    - The construction of the tent is not stable. On normal tents, if you put tension to the guide lines, this will normally tighten up the construction(that's what they are for). But on this tent, if you put tension to the top attachments it actually crumbles the whole tent.
    - there is actually nothing locking the inner tent in place, except the flysheet wich is laying loose over it (yeah I know the poles are kind of locked in place in the corners, but on a windy day I'll expect the to come loose.
    - The footprint!! Why on earth do we need a footprint?Why not just make a tent with a more rugged floor(like Hilleberg) ?
    - There is simply too many stories on the internet about MSR tents suddenly starts leaking even after hardly no use.
    This is really sad, because I really(really!!!) want to love this tent! It looks gorgeous, it feels amazing, but sadly in our Norwegian conditions with sudden weather changes, I simply do not trust it . With just a few tweaks in design I think MSR could makes this the best tent in the world for hiking, and I would buy it in a blink even if it was double the price. MSR do you hear me?!!

      cheers justin. its not a bad tent its got . plenty of room .very easy to put up even in strong winds ( 40 mph max) but it not without its faults .like too much mesh making it too cold for uk weather / flysheet doors in wrong place / and guylines in wrong place / and no guylines on vestibules to stop them blowing inwards when winds change .but over all its not a bad tent

    Hi mate. Thanks for the review. I agree with you reg tthe lineup. Do you have any condensation problem with this tent?

    • @kinderkev
      @kinderkev  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      not really because the fly doesnt touch the floor .so got a little ventilation from there .as well as from the vents and it has loads of mesh lol

    Really good point about lack of pole protection with guy points.

  • @tmoto272
    @tmoto272 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The guide lines on this tent only work if you have all attached. As in conjunction with each other they support the tent. e.g just one will only pull the flysheet.

    • @kinderkev
      @kinderkev  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the two guylines on the top of the vestibules are useless and do nothing to support the tent. and because of this problem in strong winds around 40mph the vestibules will blow inwards . and the guyline points on the sides above the air vents are to high up .they need to be further down this helps support the poles giving the tent more strength against the winds . or a guyline on each side protecting the poles ?

    • @racerx3669

  • @FrensTimmerpens

    I think that is not possible to take the inner tent out during pouring rain, first! and keep this one dry when you disable the tent???

    • @kinderkev
      @kinderkev  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      that is correct .you can't take the inner out .because the whole tent is supported by the poles which is connected to the inner .the outer fly must come off first unless you are using the groundsheet and fly combo only ?

    Hi, I have the problem that the poles aren’t lining up with the seams from the flysheet. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    • @kinderkev
      @kinderkev  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      mine dont but its not a problem its just the design of the tent .becsuse you pull on the corners when pegging down ? if it helps i put the poles in the hole first then i pull the vestibules out to peg down i find that helps .?

    • @sannevos2878
      @sannevos2878 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kinderkev When I clib the flysheet to the poles (not easy) it almost doesnt fit, its like the flysheet is to small. So I never really pull on the corners.

      i use it all year round ?? . except in snow ive got a mountain tent for that . and yes that much mesh is handy in summer ONLY. otherwise theres too much meshing .?
