Sericulture (silk farming) had long been thriving in Fukushima City, with shipping of everything from silkworm eggs to raw silk and textiles. However, the sericulture industry declined due to the Great Depression, and the spread of chemical fibers. The former mulberry fields have been reborn into orchards and flower farms. In the midst of all this, there is a workshop that uses traditional methods to raise silkworms, produce silk, dye it with plants, spin threads, and make fabrics.
