    buhahaha, when Lalas named England in the same sentence with winning World Cup - he lost all the credibility ... Give me one time when England was not confident going into tournament? And always the same story. :) Last WC: Uruguay, Italy and CostaRica in the group - they were going as a strong favorites according to them :D

      Agreed, but back then they were saying it is between them and Italians. Every major tournament they name themselves in a short group of favorites. The truth is they are in a good position to advance from the group - but thats it.

      I agree. But we dont just have Size. We have a lot of Talent, we might lack the Top End Talent but we have Every Position Covered with multiple People. In Goal its Neuer and Ter Stegen. On Defense we have Boateng Hummels Suele Hoewedes. Kimmich Hector and Henrichs. In Central Midfield we have Kroos Khedira Goretzka Goetze Oezil Guendogan Can Draxler. On the Wings its Sane Reus Brandt Schuerrle and then on the Attack its Werner Mueller or Gomez. You can Pick your Poison with this Team. Like i said there is No Ronaldo Messi or Neymar. But there is no other Team that has this much Depth and can adapt its Formation and Style of play like we can.

    He said France are in the second tier, he is a joke. France probably have the best team and they should have won the euros but they played poorly in the final. Top tier teams are France, Germany, Argentina and maybe Brazil. The France comment he lost credibility but the England comment (them being in the second tier) is the stupidest thing I’ve heard in a while. England fans even say that the team is rubbish (btw in English and live in England so I kno how people feel about our team)

    • @ivdee
      @ivdee 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mike tyson the main reason I say that is the Neymar injury, wc in 100 days he’s injured for 3 months so around 90 days. obviously he will be back but will he be 100% fit?, even if he is will he be at his best? which they will need. Brazil are easily one of the most talented but I always have the feeling that they will underperform. To me they are like Liverpool this season (amazing going forward, but I don’t trust them defensively). Argentina are in the same boat but I feel like messi’s greatness gives them a great chance. Sorry for not explaining why I though that earlier.

  • @Locomotion-uz4ly
    @Locomotion-uz4ly 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    No mention of Spain, no mention of Portugal, no mention of France, no mention of Colombia or Croatia, no mention of Denmark. Picking Mexico and England for commercial reasons because of A. The huge number of Mexicans living in the US and B. For the traditional interest of the Americans in the UK simply because of the lack of a language barrier. When picking an underdog with a fighting chance to make it big in the World Cup instead of going for teams such as Japan and South Korea, which are known for giving maximum effort for the whole game and maintaining strong tactical discipline, or Uruguay, which is also has a strong football heritage and culture and lags behind Brazil and Argentina simply because of the different demographic scale, they go with Belgium and Iceland of all countries, which would have been ridiculous, if it wasn't a pathetic lack of perspective. I too love the way how short players like Messi are underestimated in the US for their height and American commentators are surprised by their performance.No wonder your "soccer" is at the level it is today. Since there is a buzz how the MLS is making a solid progress I decided to give it a go and watched the highlights of the Seattle Sounders - LAFC game from last week. Dear Lord! The quality was like a English, Italian, Spanish or German third-tier championship. And I am not saying that to trashtalk the MLS. It's just that with the money that are getting poured into it it would have it would have easily matched the quality of the Portuguese Primeira Liga or the Dutch Eerste Divisie or the Turkish Süper Lig, but that stubborness to turn the MLS into a "soccer clone" of the NFL with copying the model (Superdraft, whatever that is, financial caps, franchising players, no promotion-relegation, pay to play etc.) will keep it mediocre, compared to the European or Latin American championships.

    • @xRozenify
      @xRozenify 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just you didnt mention the hand

    • @tashrif46
      @tashrif46 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      xRozenify Look don't give me this would have could have scenarios. Maradona proved time and again in 1986 and in 1990 that he was the best player on the pitch and when he decided to turn it on no one was gonna stop him. Argentina would have won the game anyway if you saw the nature of the goal of the hand of God he even weaved past 4 defenders for that goal

    • @xRozenify
      @xRozenify 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tashrif Alam i could give you the 1986, but the 1990 its debatable.
      And nobody would have know the end of the play if he wouldnt have make contact with his hand. Thats why i give you this scenarios.
      Sure the development of the play could lead to think that anyway Argentina would score. But the fact is that Maradona did touch the ball with his hand and was a goal.
      You just simple didnt mention that. Thats it

    What is CC talking about? Germany got size? Our CBs are 1,92 and 1,91 but that's it. Maybe Wagner at >1,90, but he won't be starting. And the last time Germany played great and attractive football (in a game that mattered) was against Brazil in 2014.

    German here.
    While our team still has alot of quality and i believe will make it far again, i don't think we will repeat it again. I rather see france taking the cup again, with all these great players that came around in the last few years.
    Griezmann, Mbappe, Pogba, Martial, Kurzawa, Lloris, Tolisso, Lacazette, Kante, Varane, etc.
    There is so much quality in this team.
    I think Germany will make their usual exit in the semis and maybe even get 3rd place.

    I'm surprised that Cris Carter didn't list these as contenders to win: USA, Italy, Netherlands & Chile :)
    “...Neymar critical for Brazil..." Are you kidding me? If Neymar plays, Brazil is doomed because he is not a team player and that has been the issue with Brazil all these years...great players who are not team players.
    "...England and Mexico as contenders to win..." RUFKM? Anyone who knows about soccer knows that the most likely to win are Germany, Spain, France and Brazil. Surprises, would include Argentina and Belgium. A fun team to watch will be Mexico and Peru but no chance of winning the cup.

    I think this is the first time the pressure is on Germany to perform and win really since they went to three straight finals in 1982,86 and 1990 and were heavy favorites in 1994. The only challengers I see to them, if those teams play to their potential are, Spain and France with their depth as well, Brazil really need to show they are over their 2014 disappointment and if Messi and Argentina click well.
    But for Messi and CR7 to cement their legacy and say they are better than what Pele, Maradona, Zidane and Brazilian Ronaldo did, this is it for them.

    I'm from Germany but I think that it's kind of sad that the US didn't qualify for the WorldCup. I think that they might have understood the excitement of football when their national proud gets triggered when their nation wins some matches against other nations in the worlds most celebrated sporting event (probably even more exciting than the Olympics for most countries). It could have helped to establish a football culture in the US, which I believe would have contributed to make america a much more open minded place, which is much needed in my opinion when you look at current social developments in the US (Trump, FoxNews). Instead of this, americans will keep sticking to their traditional sports like American Football, which do rather isolate then from the world than to connect them. Well, let's just wait for the next WorldCup, I really hope that you will qualify then!

Much worse than the teams in the 90s and 00s, but coached by someone on the leagues of Guardiola and the best coaches. The last truly great coach we had was Tele Santana in the 80s.

    I love people on here acting like something's he said we're wrong or stupid:
    France- France probably has the highest volume of talent but what hinders them is Deschamps ability to find the right 11. On any day they can win or lose to anyone.
    England- I understand England's history...But they have the best striker in the world in Harry Kane. Raheem Sterling has transformed under Guardiola. Dele Alli is a very good midfielder and Rashford and Vardy are two very pacey and prolific strikers. Kyle Walker and Eric Dier are also playing very well. I was highly impressed with England's recent friendly with Brazil and their starting 11. England was without their main offensive weapons and held a clean sheet with relative ease. I like England as a sleeper team. Seem to be built solid in defense and with the pace and ability of the likes of Kane, Vardy, Rashford, Walker, Sterling and Alli they could be very good on the counter.

    i love when people act like they know way more about football just because they aren’t american. Alexi lalas knows more about the game than anyone in these comments ever will and most of the world ever will yet he is treated like he doesn’t have a clue what he is talking about purely because of the country he is from. Yes, the main hosts of these shows usually are not well versed in football, but that is not their selling point. they r american sports analysts. the US has brilliant football minds just like any other country, maybe not as many as the likes of European and South American powerhouses who have a much bigger culture and devotion around football. but to label a whole country ignorant of the sport is ridiculous

    People in America need to stop acting like fools when they talk about Fútbol, I've seen this so many times when broadcasters act as if they don't know a thing (which is probably true), while Alexi Lalas is putting a great deal of effort and professionalism to explain to these people what the biggest and most competitive tournament in the world is about. If you want to grow as a Football nation, please hire decent people as analysts for your football segments and create a nice debate table. Stop trying to undermine the importance of football in America, cause if you are still doing this, you are missing out big time. There is a lot of money to be made in this country from Football.
