- My favorite handbuilding technique -- hump molds! Using a hump mold is an easy pottery technique to slab-build ceramics with very few tools required. Slab building with a hump mold is a perfect project for beginners. You don't need a special hump mold to begin, you can use start with objects around your house!

Actually I used the same technique with slab on a model plates that I bought for this purpose. I bisque fired them at 950 in local atelier

I am brand new to this and trying to figure out firing in my electric kiln. So pleased to have found your channel💕. I am using an earthenware clay in my small electric kiln. I noticed you fired your stoneware very low for bisque. 900/ 1652 then high for the glaze. Is earthenware different.

Is the glaze used here semi-translucent, opaque, translucent or clear? I like the “kiss” it forms.

Would you ever want to consider adding a foot ring to these? I prefer the irregular line. Both are beautiful though.
you can definitely add a footring! I would use the mold to support the form while attaching. I find them more functional without the ring though.

Hi! i was watching very carefully when you were glazing the big dishes - are you not worried about the thickness of the glaze? or do you make it rather on the watery side?
usually when I glaze I have to shave off a little glaze, so it won't become too thick, since it may drip onto the bottom of the oven (is it's on the sides). You do it so freely, I wish I was that confident.
So much depends on the glaze itself. This is a super dependable glaze that doesnt run really. Know your glazes and you can always put a “cookie”
underneath if youre worried about it running.
So, after first "baking" you use the transparent one on your bisquit? And this lighter part (on the center of plate) is visible becouse you put the second layer of glass on your bisquit?
About how much clay would you start with?
How does it create a line down the middle? Because essentially the overlapped glaze has an extra layer forming the line?
Is the board you roll your slabs on canvas over plaster?
What is the surface you're rolling the clay on?

Never sand when is’t bisk!! 🙏 you need to sand before bisk, gently with a dish scrubber. Before bisk, the particules are heavy and less harmfull. After bisk, it can be risky for your lungs
You can sand by wetting the piece and using specific sandpaper that can be used wet or dry. The only thing is you then need to wait until the piece is dry again before glazing.
I sand my bisque pieces and the result is great. I wet the piece and frequently do so as sanding, and use a diamond sander block. Everyone has their own way, as long as it’s safe it’s right.

might be your clay is too wet? You can let it sit as a slab for a little while to dry out.

Why do you wash the glaze off the bottom of the bowls?
She’s setting the pottery directly onto the shelf it looks like and glaze can stick and basically seal to the shelf of the kiln. There are setups you can use though to allow you to glaze the bottom.
I’m not expert though haha I haven’t taken pottery since I was in college.
I recently got a mug on Etsy for my grandma’s birthday, I didn’t know it was a “paint ur own ceramic mug” till i already ordered and it’s really cute so I’d like to try and paint and glaze it but I have no idea how the fuck and what the duck to do and if I’m supposed to fire it up? So the glaze can dry plz help rip
Excuse me to advise you to sand your work before the first burn .... it will be .more better in the finishing time and results .
I've tried hump molds a few times, I always end up with cracks from the rim into the bowl or platter. Drying too fast?
