  • The North American legacy airlines have never had the best reputation. However, over the last few years all have them have upped their game - especially in international business class. I’ve flown all the others but never Detla - until now. And it turns out I left the best till last. This Delta One experience was brilliant!
Before I get into the review here’s some links I referred to in my video:
    Jeb Brook’s Channel: / @greenergrass
Jeb & Dennis do a Q&A: • My Celebrity Seat Mate...
And if you get the chance do check out the Small Group Touring Co - we run some really nice small group tours to some of the word’s most beautiful and iconic destinations. Here’s the link: smallgrouptouringco.com
So this Delta One flight review covers the entire Delta One Business Class experience from check in at Detroit Airport through to the Lounge, boarding, take off and the wonderful Delta inflight service. I also cover all the features of Delta’s pod style suites - each with their own door which can be closed for total privacy.
Join me and we’ll experience it together.
Route: Detroit (DTW) to Amsterdam (AMS)
    Length: 3,934 miles, 6:58 hrs

    Aircraft: Airbus A350-900 registration N508DN (Jan 2018)

When I saw the Delta One thumbnail, I would have imagined it would be a review of Delta's 777-200LR product on the SYD-LAX route. I was really surprised to see it was the A350 on DTW-AMS route. This is my home airport and regularly fly this. In this corner of the world (the midwest / eastern US), we don't see much aviation variety. It's nothing like the Asia Pacific region with the magnitude of carriers and interesting routes. I love watching the aviation TH-camrs based in or reviewing flights in Asia/Oceania. I love flying and plane spotting in Asia. The geography and population density is so different than in the US and even Europe. The aircraft used and the way it's used is completely different.
Oceania and most of Asia are far away. Legacy American carriers like Northwest Airlines (merged with Delta) and Pan Am (routes sold off to United) started with "the great circle" routes to Tokyo. As aircraft gained more range, these routes to Tokyo became non-stops and developed the massive "fifth freedom" scissor hubs at Tokyo Narita. For most Americans, connecting to Asia meant American carriers. As aircraft gained even more range, carriers could fly beyond Tokyo.
Meanwhile, the asian carriers have matured and developed more long haul service. There's also the rise of mainland China. Codesharing, alliances, and joint-venture partnerships are now the norm too. The importance of the Tokyo Narita hubs have diminished or have disappeared all together. While Tokyo is now less prevalent, connecting through East Asia to/from the Eastern US is still the norm. Most Americans have never seen or heard of carriers like Qantas or Singapore. As ultra long haul becomes more viable (e.g., Singapore SIN-EWR, Qantas Project Sunrise), maybe the Eastern US will begin to see more aviation variety. Regardless, it's very cool that you're doing reviews in places where Australians and much of your global audience would not normally visit or connect through.
Thanks for visiting Detroit. It would have been amusing to run into one of the great aviation TH-camrs from afar at DTW. I hope you enjoyed your trip.

Another video of the highest quality , so informative and delivered with a great sense of humour too . With reference to the Poldebaan. , you are right , it is almost in another country , and I remember flying from BHX to AMS and landing on it . We literally spent more time taxing after landing than flying time from BHX . Oh by the way , do mean “ flying to LHR with BA “ and not “ flying to AMS “ 😃.

DTW is my home airport, DTW a former NORTHWEST hub has lots of destinations within the United States and abroad and a nice variety of aircraft to see, DTW-AMS(just like the route you took on the DELTA A350, you can also fly the A330 on this route) DTW-NRT A350, DTW-PEK A350, DTW-NGO A330-200 DTW-ICN A350, DTW-PVG A350, DTW-MUC DL 767(soon to be served with the Lufthansa A350 in 2020) DTW-CDG DL 767/A330 and AIR FRANCE, DTW-FRA DL 767 and Lufthansa's A330, A340 and 747 on different seasons, DTW-LHR DELTA A330/767, DELTA has service from DTW-GRU on the A330, WOW air used to serve DTW-KEF on their new A321 aircraft, WE ACTUALLY HAVE A FLIGHT TO THE MIDDLE EAST ON THE ROYAL JORDANIAN 787 DREAMLINER TO AMEN JORDAN!
Detroit is a great city to visit. Home to the auto industry Detroit Michigan is home to a lot of great restaurants, culture and tourist attractions. Detroit is home to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village showcasing automobiles from all years, steam locomotives and some of the first airplanes, including Amelia Earhart's plane. Detroit is home to great music including Motown, Steve Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Bob Seger, and great concert halls and venues to go enjoy these wonderful singers, if classic music is your thing you can go to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall to go see some amazing performances, Detroit has sports teams, but they are not doing well the Detroit Lions are not doing well, the state of Michigan has great collage football and baseball teams though. The Detroit Area has had a lot of great restaurants popping up the past few years, we have a soft drink brand called Vernors which is really tasty. Detroit Michigan is most definitely a nice place to visit and great attractions and things to do.

Great vid again Dennis, love it! Do you visit Holland often and would you care to have a meet-up session with your fans/subscribers in Holland?

Dennis, you are correct about the US airlines improving their J class offer. Last Nov I flew Narita to LAX on an AA 787 and had set my expectation meter to low. What a surprise - good seat, storage, excellent food (I did the Japanese menu) and lovely service! Not before time though.

American Caffeine Water! Good thing N. America has so many craft breweries now and Espresso machines. I can't imagine what you would have said about these beverages back in the 1970s/1980s!

Have become a big fan of Jeb Brooks’ vids during lockdown - I don’t want to say he’s in danger of becoming my fave AV youtuber but…(oh this is awkward…) 😛
