Basil was a member of the Lockers in the 70s, a NYC street dance group that included Shabba Doo (Breakin’) and Rerun (Fred Berry). They essentially invented break dancing. You can see them in an early season 1 SNL episode. She returned to SNL a few episodes later as a musical performer. She’s lip syncing here but definitely had singing chops. She’s also briefly appeared in the Mardi Gras sequence of Easy Rider.
So insane, I know it is promotion for a product. It looks like a stripping of the soul for whatever promoter that needs a pound of flesh. I just watched a couple of these vids since I was an out-of-control horn 17 in the late 80's. She was in her late 30's and pushed like this. The European market sitting on bleachers bouncing back and forth with that teen stink would have driven me to destroy everything and all if I was Toni at the time. She MUST have a good soul to work that mind F.
