    Thanks for your honesty about physical limitations.
    I also developed same limitations from age and arthritis, and looking to down size tripod and camera bag.
    After looking for years at tripods and bags to work with a DSLR 3 lens filters, cleaning, clothes etc. I have a F stop 32 L bag and W 2204 Sirui with Manfrotto fluid head. LOVE both and were big upgrades. The Suri with head and leveling is perfect height ( I'm 5-10) but comes in about 7# - may try a different head to get weight down.
    Bag I'm not sure.
    No long hiking any more - may even look at sling bags.
    I'm sure others have same issues or just don't want Big heavy equipment for what ever reason.

    I've got a smaller Sirui tripod with carbon legs, ideal for motorbike travel and back packingand it's been very useful. AM-025K which weighs just 930g or about 2.1 lbs. Great quality for a reasonably modest tripod.

    I have several Sirui ball heads and like them a lot. The tripod looks very nice. Hopefully you will heal fast. Good Luck!👍👍

    I grabbed a similar one by K&F concept, also carbon fiber but weights less, it does have 4 sections but even with them it's pretty steady and can get much taller, I did buy for it spike legs with rubber covers, not as comfortable as the Sirui but good enough for me.
    Regarding the Sirui I did hear from some other TH-camr it has a problem that the section dividers break over time since theres some plastic but I don't know for sure if it's the same model

    Nice review, I recently (4 months ago) ordered a Heipi compact CF tripod via their Kickstarter campaign. I still haven't received it, but it has a lot of interesting features. Hopefully it will show up soon, otherwise I'll probably be looking elsewhere, perhaps a Sirui. Cheers!

    I have has a very similar Sirui Carbon Fiber tripod, model Sirui N-2204X. It is is a discontinued model but I'm guess the tripod in your video is probably a replacement for it as it looks very similar. It even works great with my 5D IV and Sigma 150-600 C lens. I've been very happy with it, though it's a bit large and clunky for hiking. For that reason, I also just jumped onto a kickstarter for a really interesting small tripod by Heipi.

    I was considering this tripod but thought it might be a bit too wonky for the Sirui PH-10 gimbal head plus camera with a Sony 200-600mm lens. So I tend to buy the bigger Sirui W-2204 tripod (still haven't made my decision yet). What do you think?

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh idk, I haven't tried any of their bigger tripods, and I've never used a gimbal head so I'm not much help there.

    Thanks Bred for the nice rewiev. What do you think about R8, is it the camera for the amatour who wants to take the next step? Or is it a problem because it dosen't have IBIS? I have only use APS-C before and will test something new.
    Sorry for my bad english, it is not my first language.

    Are you able to compare against the new F38 Ulanzi tripod? I been looking at both of these, they both look good.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did a separate video on the Ulanzi a little while back. It's a lot small and lighter than the ST 124. despite being smaller, the Ulanzi still opens to a very similar max height, though not quite as sturdy given that it has like 5 sections vs the ST 124 only has 4 as well as thicker legs. I personally trust the Sirui ballhead a bit more for my heavier lenses, especially in the vertical orientation. Both are similar in price. It just depends on how much you're willing to carry and how compact you want to go.

  • @spidersj12
    @spidersj12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've got a massive carbon fiber innorel RT90CM tripod as well as the peak design carbon fiber travel tripod. I put the innorel tripod in my checked baggage and my pd tripod with me in my carry-on. The travel tripod for being so tiny in our pecked volume is great but when you want the robustness in windy conditions or heavier payloads having 40mm thick 10 layer composite carbon fiber legs with long spiked feet hard to beat.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  ปีที่แล้ว

      If I'm checking a bag, then I'll definitely throw a bigger tripod in there, but I've been trying not to check bags lately, so something like this is a good compromise for my travels.

  • @mikewilson8513

    I have this tripod. It is a superb, quality piece of kit. It is light, it folds very small, It is very stable and rigid. The working height is excellent, and i dont need to extend the centre column. (I am 5.11) Thoroughly recomended.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  ปีที่แล้ว

      I definitely agree Mike! The more I use this thing, the more it's pretty much become my go to and overall favorite tripod.

      @@BrentHall Hi Brent. I have the Sirui ball head.But I was not 100% happy with it. Dont get me wrong, absolute quality. I kept thinking about the L20 tilt head. Portrait mode is possible but needs the plate turning around. But most of what i do, i do landscape so its no real problem for me. The L20 is Sirui quality and I love using it on my st 124 (and my monopod Sirui of course)

    Those boulders. If you were where I live in NW Washington State we'd call those "erratics". They were carried by the glaciers way back when and then when the glaciers receded they left these monsters behind. But, I don't recall the glaciation reaching as far south of N.M. So what/where/why those boulders?

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, definitely no glacial deposits this far south. These are volcanic. (fun fact, my degrees are in chemistry and geology and I did part of my thesis for geochem on this eruption). They were formed 34.9 mya during the Oligocene flare up from the eruption of the Emory Caldera, which was part of one of the largest eruption series in all of earth's history. These boulders are what's left the rhyolite tuff flows from that event. The flows have been exposed to so much weathering over time that the boulders are all that's left in the immediate area, though the most of the surrounding mountains and cliffs were also formed from the same deposits.

    Great video. I have a question. What backpack would you recommend to store a tripod like this, and your camera gear in it?

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  ปีที่แล้ว

      Bags are kind of all over the place and super subjective for most people's preferences, but I really love my Shimoda bags. They are by far my favorites out of all the bags I've had and tried over the past 20 years. The one in this video is the Shimoda Explore V2 35L (there's a link and discount code in the video description). I also like the Peak Design 20L and 10L sling for smaller bags (both are also linked in the4 description). The sling bag technically has tripod mounting straps for it, but I never do that.

    Update. After i watched this video, i ordered the ST-124. Has fate would have it, a family of fox moved in near my home, approximately 110 yds away. . 3 days in a row i was fortunate enough to get photos of the mother and her 5 cubs. Day one i was using the canon 100/500 lens, first by itself. then with the 1.4 ext and then with the 2x. Day 2 i used the canon 600 rf, again with and without the extenders. . the 3rd day i used my canon 800 f11 with the 2x. I wanted to see the difference in quality from 1600 and the 600 converted to a 1200. Without a tripod none of my photos would have been of any good quality. the 600 is pushing this tripod to its limit, but it worked well. Even with that kind of distance. using high speed 1250 to 5000, increasing the iso (which the r5 can handle) my photos really came out great (my standards). social media raved over them. A tremendous thank you to you, Brent. I told several friends " if Brent says it is good, it is good enough for me"
