I'm slowly making my way through the videos. I'd love to just sit down and watch them all in a row but then I'd never get anything done. I can never get enough of seeing that gorgeous New Zealand landscape. Hopefully we'll be back there next year.

A great video mate, big thumbs up. You have inspired me to walk again (to get healthy and lose weight). I started walking 2 hours a day and lost 13 kgs but I had to sell my house and move and then covid hit and we were in lock down so I ended up putting all the weight back on again (much to my dismay) but watching you and your dedication has given me some drive to take up the walking again, thank you so much. Much kindness & all the best, Adelaide, Australia. P.s. I think the beard suits you.

      Hi Carrie.
It means alot that I inspired you, that is my goal and it is awesome that you are getting back into walking.
Lockdowns took a toll but I'm pleased that you haven't given up! Walking is such a great activity.
Haha thank you for the compliment 😊.
I wish you all the best on your journey.
Thank you so much for sharing.

Cheers Ian. So glad you enjoyed it.
I try to think of the different shots and how it will all go together, it can be a bit difficult on a long trip like this. But I'm happy with how it is coming out.
      Thanks.

That plunge into the cold mountain stream, been there, done that so many times in years past. Which brings up a point to those who would consider this rare luxury to be a moment in paradise: those of you/us who have actually taken a plunge into a cold mountain stream(or pond) on a long trek (not recreating at the ocean, a lake or a river but instead, in the exact circumstances of a trekker in the mountains) possibly represent less than 5% of earth's population here in the 20th and 21st centuries time period. Perhaps even less than 5%. Crazy-good post BK, anticipating another epic soon . Cheers.

Your filming does justice to the beauty of NZ Zeb. That camp at 10.15 min was so awesome. Again some kich ass KM's done. Best way, up early, do it, then relax ready for the next day. I was literally wondering if you ever went the wrong way then suddenly you said you overshot the path so question answered. On a side note I've never really seen Stewart Island so looking forward to catching that too when it's completed. So many beautiful places down there. Cheers.

      Hey bro.
They are mostly huts managed by DOC. The NZ backcountry is covered with making it easier for people to get out and enjoy the outdoors. Depending on the hut will depend on the cost, the super basic and small ones are free, and the others can cost 5 or 15 dollars depending. On the great walks the hut are alot more. You can find out more info on DOC'S website.

Big days, well done 👍 You wear that hoodie heaps, what is it please and do you rate it?

    • @BackcountryKiwi
      @BackcountryKiwi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Dave.
It is a Kathmandu sun stopper (sun hoodie). It has a UPF 50+ rating, I didn't get burnt once wearing it and I didn't use any sunscreen.
Although it is long sleeved and hooded I found I didn't really over heat much more than I would have in a t shirt.
Fair warning though it is synthetic and even though it is treated with polgiene to make it anti microbial it stinks to high hell pretty quickly especially if you are sweating. I like it and will keep using it on summer tramping trips.
      Cheers

Hi @BackcountryKiwi! I'm looking to do a section of the TA from mid-feb to mid-march and I'm trying to decide which section would be best for me. I love wild camping and I'm so confused where this is actually permitted on the TA. Is there a specific 3ish week section you can recommend where wild camping is possible most nights?
