I believe the largest problem with Calvary being OP right now is that size. 2500 is wildly large for not only the historical era but from a gameplay perspective. 1k-1.5k was about the size of a regiment of the era and I believe would make for a better gameplay as well.

I’ll defer on historical because I don’t know, but the unit size is symmetrical, so the AI shouldn’t be at a disadvantage. The big issues that persist are their morale buffs/ debuffs, their ability to fight in loose formation, their speed, their ability to scout, and their weapons. Personally, they’re undercosted. I’ve been exploring how to raise their cost and make them a bit more balanced.

Is this tutorial playlist still relevant for the game despite being 3 years old?

I would say a lot is still relevant. In 2023/24 I redid any of the tutorials I thought were outdated, so maybe watch the most recent first and work your way back.

@@greatscots Thanks - picked this game up in the sale and I'm a little overwhelmed by the complexity currently!

Why didn't they make this game multiplayer? They could have at least made the historical battles multiplayer.

After testing a few battles with cavalry, it only seems useful for charges to already fleeing units to stack kills...problem is, the order delay, and melee in general, causes that even attacking fleeign units difficult. So, it is even worth it?

For months I was like "cavalry is useless." At the time of the game's development, that might have been true, but I'm a true cavalry convert. By and large cavalry probably do not have a 1 vs 1 match-up they cannot win, unless other factors really skew the contest. Remember to click CTRL to turn the cursor to swords and then send them into melee. Do it to wavering units as well as those who have routed.
They do great when dismounted in loose formation, hitting a unit that has been fixed in its front.

@@greatscots I run them into the woods nearby the enemy and dismount and repeater them to death, then mount up and charge the broken units.

@@CrackaSlapYa Yeah, that sounds comparable to some of the ways I use cav now, although I generally try to keep my cav out of the woods, even when dismounted, though there cases when you have to go in.

@@greatscots The one I was thinking about when I made that comment has Lightning Brigade- which ups it's reload speed and morale behind cover. That helps.

Is it worth adding Galloper Guns to Cavalry Divisions?

Interesting. As far as I recall, 6 pounders are the lightest guns we can get in this game. I think NTW has some lighter guns.

@@CrackaSlapYa I don't remember when that happened. I thought it was after this when I was trying to deal with problem of high initial costs around the time of the 1.0 release.
