I'm 74yo and shake a bit. My golf is pretty ordinary. Well that was until I discovered your youtube tutorials on Wed night. Yesterday (Thurs) was a huge turning point in my golf. After 3 hours I was hitting the ball into the net like never before. Consistency and confidence had found a new home. This morning as I addressed the ball on the 1st Tee you could hear my mates whispers... then the sweet ball strike and the sudden disbelief. My second drive was over 200 yards middle of the fairway -it felt so good to walk past the big hitters by 20yds+. What can I say-I'm walking on air - my 89yo mate wants me to show him - it doesn't get better than that. Thank you Todd and Moe.
My points after messing with this for 10 plus years . #1 From the set up . Keep your head perfectly still and let your left knee moving to the ball bring your arm back to the back swing . Do not lose the position of the arm in relation to the body as it was in the set up .They call this your " 7" because your shoulders and left arm form a "7" . This will never change until after impact . Feel like the arm is going under not around you . Go back to what ever is comfortable . #2 Let the left knee initiate the down swing by moving to the target . Do not lose your number " 7 " or the position your arm was in relation to your chest and body and swing from inside out or to around 1 o'clock .Target being 12 o'clock . Send the butt of the club to the ball for as long as possible . This is holding your lag . Keep your left arm as straight as possible and imagine you are throwing the club at the target . Feel like you are swinging under your self . #3 After impact your right arm should be extended fully to the target when it reaches shoulder height . Straight down to 12 o'clock #4 . Do not rotate but slide during the swing and rotate after step 3 . Hope this helps .
One thing I find very unique in this concept is the "limitation" of movement. At 69, I no longer have the ROM I used to have and yet, it's SO interesting to see Moe/you limiting the entire sequence range. Up until now, I have been cognizant of how my swing is so restrictive - as in, a negative aspect of my swing. Here-in, I see a reduced ROM in Moe and yet, even later in his life, he still struck a ball enviably well. One of the greatest transitions for me will be to apply "constructive" limits to my swing, without a ball BUT with video.
Single plane swing is the best swing in the world once you get the mechanics down nor will take some work to learn. Been using it for 2 years and still learning but have improved exponentially. Down to a 9 handicap from a 2+. More confidence than ever and enjoying the journey.
single plane swing has allowed me to drive the ball straighter and farther than I ever have. it has done wonders for my game. it completely eliminated my slice, and given me significant distance off the tee. it was an almost instantaneous change. it just feels more natural to me. my swing feels so much more effortless, and I'm hitting the ball better
Todd, I really appreciate all of this wonderful content. I have been playing golf since I was seven years old. I had heard about Moe Norman back when I was in high school (early 90s), then recently a couple of conversations about ball striking, and the power of the internet and TH-cam, led me to you. You convinced me to give up riding the roller coaster of conventional golf and make the commitment to embrace the SPS. I have been at it for only a few weeks and am already amazed at the level of consistency. I used to shank a shot every 3 or 4 rounds, with all of the anxiety and frustration that brings. Now, nothing is ever left/right or short/long more than one club, and it is only getting better over time. What a concept! Lol. One important question for you if you have the time. I have two boys, 9 and 13, both about a year into golf. My oldest son has improved a lot in this first year, but his swing is nowhere near repeatable and I sense he will have the same lifetime of struggle I have lived through until discovering I could learn an easier way. 13 is an impressionable age unfortunately, and although I explain and show him all of the ways the SPS truly simplifies the swing, I know there is a reluctance to give it a try. Do you have any helpful tips on how to do a better sales job, for lack of a better term? ;)
Ask your kids how would they feel or what are their thoughts if they could be the one most consistent golf players w just a few changes. Intrigue them to why
Most kids just want to be "part of the gang" and be accepted by their peers. If your kids like golf and want to get better, appeal to their innate, selfish natures. Better scores (than their competition) because they will have a reliable model and if you can afford it (The price of a new driver!) video lessons from a private instructor. Best investment ever. :)
Good advice Todd. I am trying my best to set an example, at least in regard to showing how to put in the work on the positions and proper motion. When I start to get really consistent results on the course (consistency of ball striking, not necessarily scoring results), I hope that is the tipping point to get him to give it a try. Time will tell.
Its finally starting to come together. This is my second season with single plane swing and I've shot a couple low eighties rounds and felt a little like Moe. I let the swing balance me!😁
It doesn't take a brute to play golf, but I get a feeling watching the older Moe that he was incredibly strong the majority of his life.He had serious swing speed in his later years.
I think that, too. If you look at his hands and forearms, they look very powerful. Whilst that alone certainly doesn't account for his amazing ball striking, I'm sure it made it easier for him to execute his technique.
@@johnathanwetherill456 no he didn’t, he released earlier than most tour pros. Gripping it in the lead hand the way Moe did makes it so you have to release in order to not have a dead open clubface, he would hit everything right if he held his lag angle, Just watch some slow motion videos of Moe(there’s plenty on TH-cam) and he doesn’t retain lag, it’s especially evident in his short iron/wedge swings. Also lag isn’t necessarily what produces speed, to much lag is a thing, it’s how you retain the lag through the shot like you’ll see in almost any tour pros swing.
@@ToddGravesGolf I've dissected everything in this for the past 8 months and love mainly the importance of the grip and address. There's a reason why Moe held it the way he did. I see that now. It feels amazing. Thank you for all of your efforts in explaining the genius of Moe. I think most don't take enough time to understand it fully. It takes time to piece it all together. But so worth it
I might add that for me I came up with my own prioritizing of what parts are more important then others. I believe that while all aspects of this swing are important to be aware of and understand, since the arms swing the club and the hands grip the club, I believe they have the highest priority of importance to be done correctly. I've found that for athletes with good hand eye coordination that they can accomplish the rotations and trail foot with sometimes some mistake but if the grip and arms work properly and there is a lot of practice and touch and feel that the ball can be struck consistently well by holding it properly and swinging the Arms in the proper manner in and up and vertical drop then all is amazing !
Is there a functional benefit to initially dropping under the plane on the back swing as opposed to staying on it? I might be wrong on this but DeChambeau seems to stay on it through out the backswing.
Thanks, Todd! I love your pragmatic approach. Golf, like life is not easy is not easy, but you have shown us there are real practical ways to make it much more predictable and repeatable!
Been messing around with this method for awhile and working on ingraining with some time off the golf course. Very happy with my one length clubs I have been playing for about a year now. I catch my fair share of skins with some pretty good players but when I blow a hole I can blow it good. No time for practice frankly with a little practice with the short game would clean the chip and pitch shots and save some strokes . I play better when I get out of my way as a recreational weekend golfer. I get the concept but really can't get in positions I'm observing you and Moe are getting into through impact the bent knee actually makes my back hurt looking at it. Not knocking it just can't go there. Deffientlly some merit there with address position and whole piece takeaway and Moe talked about swinging in the course is pretty cool stuff. So I'm checking out my handle pivot postion it is further forward than yours for solid straight flight. I'm not to far up here in Kansas . guess I should check out what kind of deals you got in Ok and run down for the weekend.

What is it which leads you to believe Mo was better? Not being argumentative at all, I’m just trying to figure out who I should model for me Thank you for what you do!
Hey Coach. Does the stabilization in the back swing and the move into the lead left knee occur because of the initiation of the swing with the knees? If so, is it the same for chip shots? Or does the weight stay completely forward with no stabilization required of the trail leg? (3 weeks into the swing, best ball striking I’ve had in 3 yrs, and I still have no clue what I’m really doing, but I’m golfing better than ever😂)waiting for your Palm Springs CA dates!!
Hi Todd, I am back trying Moe's swing! I noticed Moe points his iron clubs towards his intended target on his follow through, yet when he played his woods, he actually closed (arms crossed over) in his follow through! I took his swing onto the course today and I started of great, but felt I was losing distance, so by the time I reached the 11th, I switched back to having the shaft/grip in my fingers and sad to say - I played better! Maybe I need to take the huge leap in fitting thicker grips in what Moe had, I think that is the key to be able to swing/play like Moe! But then if it doesn't work for me, then am left with bigger grips that do not fit in my fingers!
