I'm going through RCIA right now, and I don't understand why there's so many denominations of Christianity if Jesus started the Catholic Church.

Jordan Peterson made a youtube reel about Protestantism where he spoke about how if each person would become an authority we would have endless denominations basically. Best point I’ve heard about the subject besides Blue Collar Catholic speaking on Create a Church and Catholic Skeptic Hugh J Quinn’s conversion story where you’d have a room of 10-15 pastors and they’d all claim to be led by the Holy Spirit and all come to different conclusions around salvation, baptismal regeneration, the trinity, and several other topics. That’s actually the main excuse they seem to use is this idea that they’re spirit led personal relationship believers. Similar to the attitude of the gnostics where they have a focus on salvation through knowledge and a personal relationship which is why some of these churches that started after 1844 believe in Jesus not having a physical body and several other erroneous beliefs.
I was Baptist before and once I started looking into Catholicism I was very very surprised that I never heard about people having eternal life in heaven and angels rejoicing in heaven when a sinner repents, that baptism has a function, the Eucharist, and several other things. I mean even the stories of people like St Teresa of Avila, St Vincent Ferrer, St Padre Pio, and Therese Neumann never coming across my radar was pretty alarming. I had friends discouraging me from looking into the faith I had family discouraging me but I’m lucky to not care what people think because I’m still often amazed and the body of information. The inexhaustible joy I find in looking up even simple things in the faith. The 137 Eucharistic miracles, the shroud of Turin, etc still very cool

      Free Will.
      Not everyone wants to agree.
Also, Protestantism created a lot of propaganda while hiding their evils. Like the murder of Priests and Nuns following the subversion.
You know the Sabaton song The Last Stand? Commemorating the Swiss Papal Guard in 1527 for defending the Pope from an army. The army was made up of mostly German-Lutheran Lanskenecht when they sacked Rome in 1527.
After the Protestant Reformation, they led the European Wars of Religion.
The lands ended up being divided in Europe between the Catholics, Lutherans, and Calvinists; the same dividing lines that exist today.

The fact there are so many Denominations is what made me turn to the early church teaching and eventually the Catholic church. Denominationalism never made sense to me. The holy Spirit can't contradict itself.
On a side note still living with anti Catholic parents. Been going through the gospel of John with my mom and we reached John 6 and I explained to my mom that Jesus was speaking literally by showing the original Greek and early Christian writings. My mom still doesn't see it. Says Jesus can't be literal because of the Mosaic law forbided it

As a subdeacon in Byzantine Catholic Church I thank you for this video. Thank you for your great work. Yes, all bishops are vicars of Christ as affirmed at Second Vatican and all bishops are infallible when speaking from the Deposit of Faith. When a pope as an individual theologian teaches heresy (Liberius, Vigilius, Honorius, and John XXII) they can be reminded by his brother bishops to repent and to be the Guardian of the Holy Tradition. Prior to false decretals Ephesus already professed papal office divinely instituted by Christ. Even Symeon of Thessaloniki who is venerated as a saint by Eastern Orthodox profess that if a pope profess the orthodox faith then all Orthodox people must submit to the pope as if he is Jesus Christ Himself. So the dispute with Eastern Orthodox is not about papal office divinely instituted by Christ Himself but rather whether the occupant of papal office is holding orthodox faith as an individual theologian.

As a protestant it’s hard not to wonder why when I see other Protestants who look into the doctrines and history of the Catholic Church… how they can’t convert to Catholicism… then I remember how people let their egos control their beliefs. I was willing to accept whatever God showed me and I prayed that He would reveal Himself to me in the scriptures and I looked at the history, never did I think that I would be drawn towards Catholicism. I’m still praying about it but in the past month or two I’ve had several heart crushing revelations and have to admit that some of the things taught in my church aren’t in line with scripture and almost every thing taught about Catholicism in my church was wrong. I just started praying the rosary and have been praying the Jesus prayer with self made chotkis for a couple weeks now.

I can totally sympathise with you when you say it's been crushing for you.
I, in a slightly different manner felt exactly the same when I first came online in around 2011/12.
I came across a video on TH-cam that shattered my catholic faith. It was due to my lack of knowledge, mainly historical, that I was unable to refute the claims made in the video.
It actually gave me a panic attack when I was laying in bed one night. Needless to say, I swallowed my deep sense of disappointment and for some years, wouldn't step foot in a catholic church, although interestingly never joined any protestant denomination.
It actually had a hardening effect on me, and I would consistently try to do the same thing to a certain family member that was done to me, and argue against Catholics online, since I had become convinced that the claims were true.
Some years later, I came across the catholic answers guys, and they set the record straight so to speak, and I came back to the catholic church.
One thing I learnt about myself is how easy we can be deceived, but on the flipside I also discovered that I was willing to follow what I at least 'thought' was the truth, at the expense of my personal comfort.
In hindsight, I think I should have known better, because I had had a deep and remarkable conversion/deliverance experience as 25 year old guy, as a catholic. But I wavered in my faith after that point, and I guess that's what made me vulnerable to false persuasion.
Anyway, God bless you. It takes humility, courage, and honesty to leave what you've always known and believed with such conviction, and to admit you've been deceived. So so many protestants, in my experience lack that and resist the truth, even when it's clearly evident to them.

    • @ignatiusjackson235
      @ignatiusjackson235 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@myrddingwynedd2751 I can relate to that. I was "lucky" enough to have been a "cradle Catholic," and very well-catechized. That led to a sort of "survivor's guilt" among my friends (none of whom were very religious) and led me into a sort of lapsed phase throughout my mid-20s, more of a prolonged epistemological crisis. I never seriously considered becoming Protestant during that time, because I had spent my teen years studying apologetics and St. Thomas Aquinas, and frankly (no offense to anybody out there) it's a stale joke. I knew it, but I studied it along with the rest of the Nietzsche and the Buddah and the Marx... realizing, slowly but surely, that the best parts of every bit of their philosophies were entirely Catholic: the love of fate? There. Bearing suffering patiently? There. Preferential treatment of the poor? There. Through all of that, and much, much more - this is but a small summary (It was a common thread that every best part of everything I studied could be found in the Catholic faith), I was blessed with a kind of "intellectual reversion" that I have apparently shared with so many ex-Protestant converts. It's given me more grace to understand their struggles, in some fashion. I came to it again from the perspective of a "lapsed Catholic agnostic," I guess, but the more deeply I dove into Scripture and world history and the Church Fathers, the more convinced I became that Catholicism had been true all along despite myself (because it obviously is, if Christianity is)... but that thing, that "survivor's guilt" or whatever, it's still present along with my rock-solid faith, and I don't know how to shake it. Frankly, I don't even feel that one should. I just think it may be natural for those inclined to doubt ourselves enough to ask the tough questions. And, as we all find out in the end, those answers drag us kicking and screaming across the Tiber with our hands and feet tied behind our backs. It's just a matter of being honest with ourselves, I suppose.

I got to point out a few things:
    What the Pope can do:
The Pope was first among equals, key word being equals. The pope wasn't the head of the church he had no inherit authority outside of Rome besides an honorary and respected position. He could impose doctrine with the approval of the other Patriarchs or their Representatives at a council, He could resolve disputes, but they weren't binding, He could make rulings on ecclesiastical discipline, but it wasn't absolute and again required approval, He could appoint bishops but it wasn't absolute and he would have to consult involved parties.
It wasn't until after the Schism that pope got expanded authority, Before he wasn't considered infallible or the universal teacher. He couldn't operate outside of Rome without the consent of the governed and through a council with representatives of the other Patriarchs, because they were equals. All Pope's didn't claim to talk to god directly. He didn't have divine authority either. The Pope had no authority beyond the five mentioned above and it was only with the consent of the others as equals. The Pope never had the authority to form a council without the other Patriarchs or their representatives
The Popes clearly strayed from God's church for authority and power, then would lie, tried to become a temporal ruler, created holy wars, caused genocides, slept with women while insisting they didn't, and other equally horrible or worse acts. Matthew 7:16 (RSV)."You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?"
I hope and pray for my Catholic brothers and sisters that they will be showered with mercy. I encourage everyone to embark on their own journey of historical research, as I'm not infallible.

I was born into the catholic church and have listened and read countless catholic vs orthodox debates, both sides make a lot of sense to me. I'm just gonna remain in my church, the many eucharistic miracles, the lives of the Saints and Marian apparitions are enough for me to know God still blesses Catholics and gives us grace as well.

    • @Gamerad360
      @Gamerad360 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@ChrisEAdlay No offense, but god is logical. You didn't witness these miracles, so you are relying on humans, not god. Protestants and Orthodox also claim to receive miracles. Logically we can't say if any of these miracles are true as they are reported by men.
Historically we know the Pope broke off from the Orthodox as they were the only Patriarch to leave, and they went beyond their authority, so they were excommunicated. Following the pope is putting your faith in a man, he is not god. In orthodox no Patriarch will claim to be infallible or talk to god directly as that is blasphemy, you can only reach god through Jesus.
The pope even recognizes that the Orthodox have valid Apostolic succession.
Like I said you shouldn't trust any human, you should do your own research as I said. I'll just say straight up there is no way logically in which the Catholic Church is more valid.
Peter founded his church in the east not west look it up.
"Thus says the Lord: 'Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his arm, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.'" -Jeremiah 17:5-8
"It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to put confidence in man." -Psalm 118:8

The fact that the Pope isn't a universal Bishop or universal Ordinary for all dioceses is shown in Acts 15 where Bishop St. James makes the proclamation in his diocese and not Pope St. Peter.

How do you know if or if not the early Catholic church went wayward away from Christ teachings? It certainly seems they place a huge emphasis of tradition instead of teaching scripture. If Jesus is the way, why all the other distractions from Jesus?

Also why would Jesus say before leaving us after raising from the dead "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." instead of I give you the authority? Seems pretty obvious to me that Jesus, not man, has the authority.
