  • Becoming a skydiver | How to get stable during freefall | Freefall course demonstration
    Learning about your body movement, especially when your falling at a rate of over 100mph can be pretty tricky. All "small" movements are really sensitive, meaning a a slightly higher elbow could cause you to spin endlessly.
    In today's class with AerOhio, we learned how to do barrel rolls. The footage is raw and unedited. I've added the link their website below for anyone's who's interested in learning more.
    www.aerohio.com/
    CANOPY FIRST - find the sweet spot
    - find landing area, holding area & pattern entry point
    - if altitude, position and traffic permit, start your canopy skill
    - flare to chest at a medium speed and hold, than at slower speed, than at quicker speed
    - flare to hips at a different speed
    - evaluate the most effective flare according to the strongest sustainable lift ( "sweet spot" )
    - initiate the best flare at "one body length" or head height above the ground
    - evaluate the flare height according to the landing results
    FREEFALL DIVE FLOW: barrel roll & recovery
    - assist with spot
    - solo exit
    - barrel roll and recover
    - altitude, arch, legs, relax
    - repeat barrel rolls - check altitude between each maneuver
    - 6000ft initiate no more acrobatics
    - 4500ft wave of and pull

    As a Skydiver since 1980, just relax and don't be stiff.

    Relax your stomach and arch. Slowing down is the skill 👍

    I know this is a bit of a late comment, but wanting to do my AFF soon. Was wondering if you were able to get the spinning issue under control after a few more jumps? Thanks man great video

      She wasn't symmetrical during free fall. She was able to get symmetrical after she got in a few more jumps and relaxed. Thank you 🤙🪂!

    Were the flat spins intentional? How many jumps did you have at that time?

    • @SKYextrm
      @SKYextrm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The flat spins were completely unintentional. I had about 10 jumps, I think.

    Do you still free fall when you deploy your parashoot

    Looks like it's easy to go from stable to unstable quickly for a beginner. Were those rolls and flat turns intentional or unintentional?

    • @SKYextrm
      @SKYextrm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It can be very easy when you're a beginner to get unstable, especially if you're not relaxed. Here, I wasn't relaxed and it took me a little bit longer to get stable after doing my barrel rolls. I learned that the less stiff my body, the easier I can stabilize.

      @@SKYextrm Before this jump, had you practiced in a Wind Tunnel?

    • @SKYextrm
      @SKYextrm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sanfranciscobay I went to the wind tunnel after this, which helped so much.

      @@SKYextrm Would you practice Rolls in the Wind Tunnel or is that too dangerous at your experience?

    • @SKYextrm
      @SKYextrm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sanfranciscobay At that time, the main skill to practice in the tunnel was body awareness, moving up, down, forward, back and turning.

    My complaint is for the video editing.... Sheesh people... Cut all of the unnecessary time spent waiting to jump... not essential or interesting... good free fall stuff... but just like a lot of crappy channels... cuts out the landing.... Begining... Middle.... End... Tell the story. Did everyone make it back to the DZ? We will never know....
