Her face sculpt is really good, That's one area that Hasbro screws up less and makes objectively good if someone one combined face sculpts and pinless joints with mcfarlanes sculpts and prices we'd have a winner
I love the new photo realistic faces when they get them right. I agree that the super under detailed bodies look extra plain compared to these new faces, but every time I compare the old faces to the new ones, the new ones win. Marvel legends just don't bring me as much joy anymore so I barely buy them, and gi Joe classified is getting most of my Hasbro money these days
Yes I wanted Clea. She is essential to a Doctor Strange display. Having said that, I could live without her. I love the face. It's one of the better female faces.
She was always on my want list. She’s definitely important if you are Dr. Strange and Marvel Mystic fan. While head sculpt is great double jointed elbows would make her way better, all they would need to sculpt would be overlay gloves and use existing double jointed arms.
Purple being one of my favourite colours, I appreciate the vibrancy and extraordinary colour scheme this figure is sporting. Quite fetching to eye. I have to say, though, that I had no bloody idea who this character was prior to this review. The head sculpt is wicked, too; Hasbro has proven, less often than not, that they are capable of making good figures with exceptionally detailed, hyper realistic head and face sculpts. When they put in the effort, the end product is usually acceptable and thus meets collector satisfaction standards. Loved the review, mate! Giovanni Marino, M.D.🇬🇧
1. I'm pretty sure the gap in her clevage depends on the production sample. I may be wrong but mine for example isn't as visible as this one. 2. The face is perfectly fine and it's not boring, it's neutral. It's one thing that every ML should come with two heads for more variety (for example neutral and screaming) but objectively speaking it's better to have one neutral face than only screaming head. And overall I like the paint job on the ML faces, I think they are trying to make it seem like comic book characters went from comics to the real world or something like that. That's why faces are so "realistic" and the rest of the figures are more comic (at least that's my assumption) 3. When it come to accessories, point for you, I really wish Hasbro would make some new accessories, especially for magic using characters. 4. As for the articulation, overall dumbbell joint is better but since Hasbro has problem with making it right I'll take the standard disk hinge (I just think it's better to have working disk hinge than dumbbell joint that doesn't work). The arms should be the new updated ones from Black Widow but maybe the gloves would hinder movement or just these older arms were cheaper idk 🤷 Torso is just okay, more movement back and little bit forward, nothing amazing but it'll do. But the hips articulation, Anthony c'mon, not every character needs to make full splits! More agile characters like Spider-Man, sure, but not every other character. Overall the figure is pretty good, 7/10 seems reasonable.
didn’t know who clea was until this figure was announced. the colors are really vibrant and im always fan of the magic side of marvel so i picked her up
I had no idea who she was but her figure looks fine. I definitely see what your talking about regarding the face though and I agree it should look more stylized. Crazy that the Chan Lu figure is cheaper
Question of the day: I'm with you on this, photo realistic paint is fine, but I'd prefer it to be comic book style, not cosplayer/instagram model type. Like animated/neca style. But I think a realistic-ish face could look fine if there's some extra paint, wash, or something to balance it. Like the 20th anniversary wave or something. Currently, the face is too detailed for a toyetic body.
I don’t mind the stylistic choices they make with the faces. As long as the face looks good then it’s fine. The problem is that usually the only faces they make are smiling faces or very neutral and boring expressions. And rarely do they ever give multiple heads so you just have a super hero with the most bored face ever. Idk how they expect you to pose these action figures fighting when they don’t even look like they wanna fight. They gotta start giving us 2 heads with each release, it’s gotta be standard by now at the $25 price point.
One solution for the "photo realistic" Face might just be put a wash or more paint on the rest of the figure, like the 20th anniversary line. Even though I don't trust hasbro with their sh*ty paint distribution, but I think it might help a little.
To answer your question: I would be interested in this Clea just to give my Dr. Strange figure someone to hang out next to on the shelf. But I am not interested in the Clea at the full price. She needs to go at least 50% off first and she probably will. I don't know if this is true for everyone in every region of the US, but in my area, EVERY ML wave in recent memory as gone to clearance at Target. It seems to me that people (for the most part) are getting more and more tired of these prices.
I'm with Anthony on the realstic faces looking off on the basic bodies. It would be like Photo Shopping Tobey Maguire's face onto a coloring book image of Spider-Man
hi anthony. i didn't want one and have never heard of the character. but when i saw the announcement I got one because the face sculpt one me over. and so far i haven't been disappointed with the face sculpt now that i have the figure in my hand. i must say that i'm more interested with the BAF of this wave... but the figures you need to get is not really a high priority for me... except for Blade since I don't have any.
Q of the Day: Yes, I wanted a figure of Clea badly, and I’m knee deep in Marvel Legends, so I fit the profile. 😂 Honestly, I’m quite happy with this one, including the digital printing, but I’m not even going to pretend that we’re getting good value.
I very much wanted a figure of Clean. I'd also really like other comic accurate Doctor Strange figures like Wong, Nightmare, The Ancient One, (a new) Doctor Voodoo, Baron Mordo, and Bats as an accessory. We almost only get MCU Doctor Strange and I only like comic figures.
I kind of wanted a figure of her since the Walmart (?) exclusive Strange was so nice. Kind of just wanted the pair to display together. She's a nice figure overall, very good face sculpt and decent enough body with sculpt and paint. Picked up an extra one just for custom parts. I don't get bothered too much by the high-rez face print vs low-rez body. In my mind I just see the body as your usual superhero tights/body paint anyways, so the more smooth and plasticy look that's obviously different from the face is fine. Between the older, more flat paint faces of the comic figures and the current face print comic figures, I definitely prefer the current, even if older ones fit together more. Listen, after years of that horrible Moonstone face that was got we slight variations on color and expression on literally EVERY SINGLE FEMALE ML, I'm fine with the newer more unique female heads, even if the style is a bit off. The reason Hasbro puts in so little effort for ML is in deed because of the license. But not because of the cost of the license. It's because they hold the exclusive 6" license for Marvel. I know other companies like Select, Figuarts and Mafex can do Marvel too, but they seem to have licenses that limit them to different scale, MCU only or whatever. They're not true competitors to ML, at all. Jada is a new company that needs to provide quality and value to consumers in order for them to succeed. They can't do worse or "just as good" as their competitors like NECA or Storm. As newcomers, they need to be literally better. Same with Hasbro's Joe Classified line. While they don't have direct competition in terms of other companies doing Joe figures in the same scale or style, Action Force blew their shit out of the water in the earlier days, and you can tell the Classified team is hauling ass to compete. Both in pricing and quality. ML has zero competitor, thus Hasbro don't care. It will remain high price and low quality/value for the foreseeable future.
Question of the day answer: Yes, I absolutely wanted a figure of her. I wanted her a LOT, like top 1 - 3 wants. To be fair though, I’m a HUGE Doctor Strange nut so anything really relating to him and his batch of characters is top priority for me.
Only one that hasn't come in from this Wave for me. I have gotten the ship notification. She will go on my Supernatural shelf. Dr. Strange, Brother Voodoo, Wong, Nicole, Agatha (my least favorite), Magik, Willow and Tara from Buffy, the 4 Charmed Sisters, and Scarlet Witch. I only bought Agatha because we're not likely to get Comics Version anytime soon and there are ties to the Fantastic 4 and Scarlet Witch. I knew she was going to be a brick. I have got to get those Jada Street Fighter!
I know this is going to be a weird question, but does the head sculpt have ears underneath that hair, or is it earless? I ask because if it has ears, it could be potentially useful to me as a head for a custom I’ve been trying to work on.
Yup. Which is why I got it. The Iron Man is the worst of the wave IMO. Just a repaint of one of the older bodies. Just got him for my hall of armor display, and he does that job well enough, but it's really only good for that.
8:14 Could you please explain the difference, engineering-wise? How is that articulation (Chun-Li) achieved? I know you know because you used it in the Rival figures, but I don't quite understand how it works, it looks simple but I don't quite get it :(
@@AnthonysCustoms Ah, I see. But now I'm even more confused because the mechanism looked the same to me 😵💫 ...And I couldn't even mimic yours from your ZBrush videos.
For me the best thing for ML is their face sculps/paint. Looking forward to you talking about figures with less articulation in Tombstone and that Spider-Man :P
I like the less well known characters so I was interested in this one. The crappy singlebjointed elbows and lack of abdominal ball joint, or even hinge are a turn off. I think the face looks well done, but the expression just looks (as you said Anthony) bored. If they added shading to their figures then the realistic faces would gel better with the bodies. They really need some new effect pieces.
Hasbro makes some of the best face sculpts and paint jobs for Legends at least. The problem is that the bodies ain't up to the same standards of quality for reasons that Anthony always points out. It is obvious to me that they have invested a lot in head quality as a means to distract perhaps from the overall cheapness of the bodies.
On a technical level the head is good. I don't like the photo realism on my comic figures. The other issue for me is that the box clearly shows her eyes glowing, yet they didn't think to do that for the actual figure.
I did want a Clea, but it wasn’t at the top of my list. Definitely some characters I would have liked to have seen first, but I like the fact they made her. A slight wash would have gone a long way on the hair, but of course Hasbro doesn’t care.
Her face looks good but this is the only positive thing I can say about her. Less than 90 degree single jointed arm with no bicep, no waist articulation in 2023 is wild.
Q1 - it is not like I didn't want a Clea, admittedly she's a way down the wish list though. Q2 - the only place Hasbro ML is applying any resources towards are the faces, otherwise it is nothing but re-paints and re-issues on horrible bucks. I don't mean that the faces are any good - but it is where the Hasbro dollar is spent.
How much stock do you put into BAF pieces for a wave like this? With a 25 dollar price point - do you consider any of that value being in the BAF because it seems like you’re just focused on the base figure.
No value because you're not getting something in order for them to include it. And half the figures don't have baf pieces anymore. It's also of no value unless you buy every figure
It's decent head fodder. Maybe you can call those hands rocker hands, or devel horn hands lol. I've never heard about John, Paul, Ringo or George having any leg issues.............
I don't know who this is so obviously I didn't want her before she was announced, but if I can get her for a good price I'll certainly buy her for one of the prettiest faces in the Legends line.
is it funnier to say they’re Spider-Man hands? but yeah, Clea is essential for a Dr Strange display. especially since she actually became the Sorcerer Supreme last year
I definitely would like a Clea figure to go with my Midnight Son's collection. A Sorcerer Supreme Clea would be great buuuuut I'd want soft goods. That's my preference. A company like Mezco I'd like to tackle a version. However female figure seem to not be a high priority for them. The face paint doesnt bother me but I may change mind if I had her in hand. The critique about the legs for Clea...she isn't as flexible in canon as Chun Li is so her not being able to do a full split is an issue to me. I do get the point of a smaller company doing a better body then one of if not the largest toy company in the world. Not a fan of single joints in 2023. Figure looks cool for what it is. Thanks for vid.
Hasbro might be putting more effort into Transformers and GI joe. Pick up the Transformers Legacy Tarn or Bludgeon. They're the same figure, but the robot mode alone beats most marvel legends in articulation.
Nice face sculpt and color scheme. However, Hasbro is making their digital/printing faces too realistic! Like Anthony said, “uncanny valley”. But the head sculpt is good! We have never been clamoring for a Clea figure - but it is a surprisingly decent release from Hasbro. Thank you for sharing, Anthony!
I used to want a figure of any Marvel figure in the Legends line but I’m very burned out on Legends because Hasbro doesn’t give af so neither to I finally
I don't want her but her face is genuinely pretty cute. If I see her at Ollies or on clearance somewhere I'd pick her up just for that. Otherwise a pass, but a nice head sculpt.
My take on what Hasbro is doing is that if they are going to be able to give us Black Widow with all that newer engineering and all those accessories at that price point… why can’t they at least give us female figures that at least consistently use the new legs AND arms and not just one or the other. She got the effects that they’ve been using for a decade, she got 4 little hands and a BAF piece. I’m fine with no BAF and just releasing a deluxe gig with each wave. Just like the across the Spiderverse wave had cyborg spider woman as a deluxe instead of a BAF pack in. Give us more of that.
What blows is I have female Marvel Legends figures that are over 10 years old that have the same amount of articulation as Clea. The single joints on Hasbro’s own Star Wars Black Series have better range. I’m calling it, single joints that get less than 90 degrees is an action figure crime. It’s even more inexcusable when the sculpts on the arms have zero definition.
Legends makes some awesome headcsulpts i think it's just the anime and realism mixed which makes them less accepting. They should choose one lane. These will suit better on mcu figures. Really off putting on these comic figures
The face is pretty far from my minds-eye image of Clea. It's fine as a face sculpt, but yeah, definitely has cosplay-Clea vibes. If it looked like the actual character from the comics, I'd probably get one to go with my Walmart classic Doc Strange in my display.
Its weird how bad the Marvel Legends branch of Hasbro in particular is bad at having split capable characters. A majority of the GI Joe figure from my experience can do the full on splits and even Star Wars the Black Series generally have better range (erven among armored characters), than Marvel characters wearing skin tight outfits. It really doesn't make much sense. Licensing fees don't mean you cant design it properly in the first place.
I hate they reduced the chests on all females for the past couple of years. The Moonstone body had the first normal sized chest and kept it going till I think Lady Loki and afterwards they reduced that motha by 2 cup sizes to small and repeated that even on the new Moonstone body. I'm probably the only guy complaining about that but it still is a complaint. And it's a problem in general entertainment, in games, movies, tv shows and toys...
Considering Legends give you less and charge you more model. I haven't felt the need to buy them for a very, very longtime. Plus they're quality is so consistently poor at this point. I'd rather spend my money on toy lines that actually put care and effort into their products. The Marvel license needs to go to a different company. More harm than good at this point. Everything Legends just goes to clearance now.
I predict you are not going to like Blade. his arms do not go all the way down and stick out. Any have given bad reviews of blades with the arms being their biggest issue. The only one I want out of this wave is DD cause he will look good with Elektra who I predict will still be the better figure than DD. Cause Elektra is one of those rare good ones. I really never thought of wanting Clea. But I'd like to use her head for a custom. It's a nice head. But I will wait till she goes way way way down in price on Amazon. Long gamer. But yeah I only want Daredevil.
@@AnthonysCustoms I do think your right. with a little bit of paint...once learn how to paint in a way it doesn't peel off...then able to give it a wash afterward...I can totally put it on my Covergirl classified figure that the classified team muffed up.
The faces look good but then they are ruined by the hair that looks like a lego piece just stuck on top with no wash or shading. The more matte looking finish adds so much quality to a figure. When you pulled up darwin he looked bad bootleg quality.
I didn't want a figure of Clea, she's not among my favorite Marvel characters. I'd rather have another Captain America because I missed the one from the 20th anniversary!

I like the face paints. McFarlane should take notes.
the paint job is OK, i think they need to go harder with the black around the eyes
cannonball had a thigh swivel problem.
Best female Marvel Legends headsculpt. Wish she had the new black widow arms, legs and better torso articulation.
I like the realistic faces, in general. I'd buy her, and i don't even know who she is!
i like her cuz she’s a Longhorns fan
Clea wasn’t a must-have for me, but this is appealing enough to consider
i probably get her for her head sculpt that's it.
What the bleeps a Clea?
Hasbro might be putting more effort into Transformers and GI joe. Pick up the Transformers Legacy Tarn or Bludgeon. They're the same figure, but the robot mode alone beats most marvel legends in articulation.
Nice face sculpt and color scheme. However, Hasbro is making their digital/printing faces too realistic! Like Anthony said, “uncanny valley”. But the head sculpt is good! We have never been clamoring for a Clea figure - but it is a surprisingly decent release from Hasbro. Thank you for sharing, Anthony!
Yes! I want a Clea figure... with a price amount of $18. LoL
I gave up on ever getting any new effects accessories. I just make my own out of hot glue. They look better anyway
Another head for my battle sister army 😂
Anthony, those are not SpiderMan hands LOL had to do it xD
I used to want a figure of any Marvel figure in the Legends line but I’m very burned out on Legends because Hasbro doesn’t give af so neither to I finally
Those are Ronnie Dio devil horn hands!
Why does it feel Hasbro hinders the Marvel Legend line, but let's GI Joe CS just go ham? GI Joe is just releasing banger after banger in my opinion.
Love this review. Now i have no choice, my mind is made, im going home and ordering Thunlee asap
Good call
This marvel knights wave is pretty nice, worst ones in my opinion are Luke cage and iron man, everyone else is good or better
Why not
Great Review
What blows is I have female Marvel Legends figures that are over 10 years old that have the same amount of articulation as Clea. The single joints on Hasbro’s own Star Wars Black Series have better range. I’m calling it, single joints that get less than 90 degrees is an action figure crime. It’s even more inexcusable when the sculpts on the arms have zero definition.
Legends makes some awesome headcsulpts i think it's just the anime and realism mixed which makes them less accepting. They should choose one lane. These will suit better on mcu figures. Really off putting on these comic figures
Those aren't Spider-Man hands (😉)
The face is pretty far from my minds-eye image of Clea. It's fine as a face sculpt, but yeah, definitely has cosplay-Clea vibes. If it looked like the actual character from the comics, I'd probably get one to go with my Walmart classic Doc Strange in my display.
Jada ❤
No idea who Clea was. Her face is excellent, decent figure
Harsh words 😅, but TRUE 👍👏🤗
The soft body did throw off the look of the figure but I couldn't explain why until u said that Anthony
You aren't alone
Considering Legends give you less and charge you more model. I haven't felt the need to buy them for a very, very longtime. Plus they're quality is so consistently poor at this point. I'd rather spend my money on toy lines that actually put care and effort into their products. The Marvel license needs to go to a different company. More harm than good at this point. Everything Legends just goes to clearance now.
I like the face.
Nope, Clea is not on my list. Now that this is available; less than $20 for custom fodder parts.
Her face sculpt kinda looks like Emily Osment
Imagine if Gi Joe had female face sculpts this good, their recent sculpts in general look softer.
I don't like the faces, can't decide if I like them less than the different colored knees and elbows on their pinless molds.
I suspect you'll be able to get Clea for around 12 bucks at some point
@@AnthonysCustoms I do think your right. with a little bit of paint...once learn how to paint in a way it doesn't peel off...then able to give it a wash afterward...I can totally put it on my Covergirl classified figure that the classified team muffed up.
The faces look good but then they are ruined by the hair that looks like a lego piece just stuck on top with no wash or shading. The more matte looking finish adds so much quality to a figure. When you pulled up darwin he looked bad bootleg quality.
The thing that turns me off legends the most ?,they will never truly look like a specific artist .
It's a shame because they easily could
the face paint is amazing. it just don't match the body.
honestly, its a pretty face, but she looks more like an overwatch character rather than a marvel one
I didn't want a figure of Clea, she's not among my favorite Marvel characters. I'd rather have another Captain America because I missed the one from the 20th anniversary!
