Hearing them talk about this in the drumeo interview was the first time I’d heard of drumming as composing and I think that’s so incredible. Like this man is keeping time but he’s composed a whole masterpiece at the same time
I knew as soon as your started complimenting what II was doing in other videos that you'd really enjoy his Drumeo interview and playing. It's so wild all the little things he does that you don't think about. Even more wild he remembers all of those little things across all their songs. I think you might be correct. He's an alien that was born inside a drum kit. If you go missing I think we'll know that you were correct and his species abducted you so they could remain hidden. Can't wait to see more of you watching and just the excitement you have seeing him doing so many things.
Great reaction! I wish more reactors would do the full one-hour video, but I know that is a lot to ask. You should definitely check out the performance just released by Drumeo of II playing the Summoning, with a drum solo in the middle. It was obviously recorded during this same set, but I'm glad they split it off from the rest. It is EPIC!

Just watching this again. I went through all your videos so far and was pleasantly surprised to see Jinjer covered a great deal. Another of my fav bands. And Lions at the Gate with Tati. Also, great song. Just wanted to mention when (ii) is choking off the cymbal....usually when you hit the cymbal it rings out for a bit. ii actually uses very dry cymbals that cutoff pretty quick naturally, but choking a cymbal is the difference between the sound of crashhhhhhhhhh and crashh...similar to the difference between hitting the hi-hats when they are open, and hitting them when they are open and clamping the pedal down to close them....cutting the sound instantly. It just adds another effect to change things up. As for the cymbals with the dents and holes in them...if you took a regular 16-inch Sabian, a 16-inch Zildjian, and a 16-inch Paiste crash cymbal and put them beside each other, they basically sound the same, especially on a recording. But, when you change the metals, hammer them (creating rivets like on the Ride cymbal), or cut holes in them it can drastically change the tone giving you more possibilities for accents. Smaller cymbals produce higher tones and larger cymbals produce deeper tones. (ii) has definitely hand-selected all his cymbals, and my guess is that he's tested many cymbals to get to this configuration.

My grandfather taught me when I was 14. He was a traveling musician in his youth and played till he couldn't play any more. When I gave lessons I would always encourage parents buy their kids acoustic guitars. The classical guitars with nylon strings are easier on the fingers. I found that any kid who tried to learn on electric guitars first would get discouraged after their fingers took a beating from the harsh metal strings. Sadly, most would quit. I believe I still have some videos with some lessons I did online. Send me an email and I'll forward them to you. If I don't have them anymore, I'll make new ones and send them to you. So he’s choking the cymbal. It would just ring and cut through the vocals and by choking it you get that very crisp stopping of sound that just adds to the overall intricacy that is his playing.
How did you find out he's an alien? It's supposed to be a secret. 😂 In all seriousness, how does he look so comfortable, like it's effortless? I love watching these reactions and i do it hoping to gather some knowledge as a non-drummer that helps me understand why he's mesmerizing to watch.
