As far as I know there is also a theory that the Band of Seven are also based on the 7 deadly sins. Each member essentially becoming a physical manifestation of that sin. Kyokotsu - Gluttony Mukotsu - Envy Ginkotsu - Sloth Suikotsu - Wrath Jakotsu - Lust Renkotsu - Greed Bankotsu - Pride
Alternative theory: The Band of Seven represent things that are considered war crimes or otherwise distasteful in war. Mukotsu is obviously the usage of chemical or biological weaponry, as well as drug usage considering he breathes his own poisons and his less lethal concoctions could be likened to narcotics. Gyokotsu represents the needless ravaging of the land and destruction of property and, of course, committing acts of cannibalism. Ginkotsu is obviously the development or adoption of new and untested weapons, but also human experimemtation. Suikotsu is a 2-for-1, representing the practice of having medics engage in combat or having soldiers masquerading as civilians or other noncombatants, but he also represents the practice of attacking those very same noncombatants. Jakotsu is the torture and sexual assault of enemy soldiers, as well as fraternization within a military unit. Renkotsu is general underhanded tactics, the betrayal of comrades, and the disregard or overthrowing of authority figures. And Bankotsu, as the leader of the Band of Seven, represents the immorality of mercenaries and their willingness to fight for any cause.
Your right on some of these 1. Kyokotsu does represent gluttony as shown by him outright devouring demons, 2. Renkotsu did represent greed as shown by his increasing desire for the jewel shards, & 3. Bankotsu represented pride as shown by his confidant and cocky attitude, but yo are wrong about the other four they are as follows 4. Jakotsu represents envy as shown by the jealous fits he goes into whenever someone comes between him and Inuyasha, 5. Mukotsu represents lust as shown by both his attitude and the fact he wanted to outright rape Kagome, 6. Ginkotsu represents wrath due to the fact he never shows any emotion other than anger, & 7. Suikotsu represents sloth due to the fact that one of his split personalities is, for lack of a better term, "sleeping" whenever the other is active.
As a person who’s sees hundreds of history documentaries on a monthly basis; I LOVED THIS VIDEO. And I recognize wholeheartedly you saying “if you believe some of these stories”. There are so many history books that depict when the author believes this or that, discarding other tales. As always, this is a great view on Inuyasha’s historical element.

The band of seven are my favorite part of the Inuyasha series. Thank you for making a few video's about them. Bankotsu will always be my favorite character in the series.
I know Jakotsu was originally intended to be female but Rumiko didnt want Inuyasha defeating a female human, so she just changed her into a flamboyant/feminine gay man, we cant be sure but perhaps Jakotsu was initially supposed to represent women who partake in war, often by impersonating the other gender (i.e Mulan) which Jakotsu is somewhat a reflection of that

Interesting that aspects of war would define the Band of Seven. Then again, Rumiko sensei was kind of genius when it came to creating something like InuYasha.
I would have liked to see an OVA featuring the backstories for these guys. Suikotsu was a doctor with a split personality, but I’m curious what the other members were like way before they became mercenaries. Renkotsu seems to be depicted a lot as an ex-monk in the fanfics.
I think even better for Bankotsu was the religious aspect. Desperation can cause people to make radical beliefs. In his case it was apathy for religious beliefs being an atheous. For him he would kill and slaughter for there was no punishment awaiting in the next life.
Take a look at the Koopalings from Nintendo. There are seven of them and named after musicians and a couple have similar weapons. A parallel I wasn't expecting to connect.
I'd wish I was never born if I had Genghis Khan's genes in me. Although I think Bankotsu is hot, I think he was more power-hungry than loyal because he threatened to carve the shikon jewels out from Renkotsu's neck. I'd feel threatened in Renkotsu's shoes and think of betrayal also.
