Holy guacamole, when i was around 6-8 years old. I was obsessed with diorama and I really wanted to make one, but my mom didn’t allowed it because i was so young at the time and I satisfy my cravings in building stuff by watching diorama vids and one of them is this! I still remember watching this vid over and over! Now I’m 16 years old and I just found you corn husk paper as a rrl for my research. I cant believe the same man helped me unintentionally since I was young:)) thank you fir your content!
@Asen181 Yes, the river is the same technnique, I painted under it then poured on the realistic water. Had to block off the ends though so it would'nt run out.
@Generalsplatton Thanks, I like this little diorama a lot. It was fun to make and didn't take me too long. It's mostly just foam. One of my favorites. Simple scene but kind of tells a little story.
@GreenAiden555 You can paint after it dries. I don't know about adding paint or dye to the caulk before starting. Only one way to find out! Give it a test try!
This is an awesome video! Straight to the point and shows every step. I am making a Jurassic park Island cake and am going to use this for my waterfall next to a volcano using dry ice. The only thing I'm going to change is the color, using cake gel. Thanks so much!
@JB1052 Both methods work pretty good and look pretty good . I like the DAP because its cheap and easy to get, any hardware store. I would that that over time the water effects will probably hold up better though. Not positive, just a guess.
This technique is AMAZING, thank you for showing me this. My girlfriend and I are currently in the works to make some kick-ass Godzilla dioramas and are planning on using this technique for waterfalls and a few other things. I have a question about it, though: Is it possible to dye the sealant a different color or no? Like, say, adding food coloring or paint while its drying? Or would it be possible to paint it after it dries to get the desired color?
I been wanting to male some diaoramas, in particularly of life around a main line railroad. I've always wanted to know just how to make water look so real. You did a good job here. How expensive are the materails and what would be a better place to find them hobby store, arts and craft store, on line?
I just started trying my hand in dioramas. I made 3 just to try and used the DAP on one and liked the effect it gave. I just made a mini in a 4 inch round glass and tried a resin but not the same.
Hi I have two questions. First does it matter what side of the wax paper this needs to be done on? Secondly about how long do I have to wait before I can peel off the wax paper?
The foam in mostly likely Low density polystyrene, or insulation foam, any DIU or home improvement/hardware store most like carried in large sheets and it's generally pink
Thank you I been building a fairy house for 2 years now I have a lake at the top with blue crushed glass ass a warter feature working well looks beautiful but I would like to fill the lake in as you have done here at the bottom with a small warter fall falling from the Apple tree where my fairy lynn sitting afther picking apples all morning ! This is very helpful
@Brian567899 This is a great idea. Thanks, not sure if I will do it though, I have never done any contemporary dioramas, just fantasy and medieval stuff.
@hitthebed Good point, That section around the other side is supposed to be the start of the ocean, although there is just a little section. that's why I made it bluer. Might have been better to lighten it. But I need that section for my upcoming tutorial on how to make ocean effects :)
Does the crystal clear cawk dry smooth? Or does it dry with a bit of a stick? The reason I ask is because I'm customizing some blank prop guns for a movie I'm working on the set of and need a good method for sealing the grips of the guns for smooth finish rather than pre set grip pattern. I need a non stick finish just like magic water, or a resin mix. Please lmk asap how it drys thank you so much
Do you find your DAP method better to use then the Woodland Scenics Water Effects? The DAP method seems to take longer because of the cutting the plastic, blow drying it, gluing the DAP, then painting it. WS Water Effects seems to have a shorter method. I was wondering if it looks, works, holds up more better then Water Effects.
I have a question though. Sadly all the grass packets I get from my craft store of diorama grass is always clumped up into bits of diorama grass. It looks awful, and I thought maybe with some air it would loosen up, but it hasn't. It's unusable as is. Do you know how to un-cluster it from its clumped form back into its small particle form?
Zielda Winligg stormthecastle.com/diorama/secret-grotto-diorama/secret-grotto-diorama-page-1.htm This is a link to the stormthecastle website and it tells you how to make "the secret grotto" diorama there :)
Amazing work man, sub'ed! Just a question...I'm new to this, so is the chunk of rock made from styrafoam? If so, did you burn it with a torch to give it it's shape?

Hi.. I just made the waterfall with my son for a school project. It turned out perfect. Thanks so much for making this video. You're awesome!!!

for the white of the bubbling waves, i tend to use the window snow stuff that dries, it gives a nice effect
@Asen181 You can do it either way. I painted the blue first then poured in layers , letting it dry between layers.
@James3zs Thanks, you are right. Bigger waves. I could use the thicker gel.
That waterfall looks AWESOME
@GreenAiden555 You can paint after it dries. I don't know about adding paint or dye to the caulk before starting. Only one way to find out! Give it a test try!
@w0sh1m3 The mountains are simply carved out of a piece of foam then painted.

Have fun and be sure to send me a picture! I would love to see it!
Very informative! Thanks so much for taking the time to teach us your techniques! I'm looking forward to giving it a try!

@EUSL84 The woman warriors are from a very old series; I believe they are Ral Partha which is not in business anymore.
@writershannon You are very welcome. Glad to hear it helped!

This is a great idea, and very creative. thanks!
@danceingbee1 You should use a thin piece of plastic underneath it as the structure. I show you about in the middle of the video.
@PetsClothesMakeup Thanks for subscribing and sounds like a cool project. If you take any digital pics send em to me! I will add them to the web page.
I love your creativity
@Asen181 I have a video for this. You paint the base blue then just pour in the realistic water and let it dry!
AWSOME. Looks like lots of fun.
Amazing!! Excellent work.
This is incredible... Where did you learn all these tricks? Thanks for sharing your extensive knowledge. Cheers from Australia, Rolf
@Joe22Awsome It might work with a hot glue gun. I am not sure. But the hot glue definitely won't be as crystal clear, but probably still pretty good.
Good luck, Realistic water from Woodland Scenics. You can get it on amazon. I have another few videos here on how to make water.
@THERANDYORTONFAN100 I am really not sure about the white glue. I don't think it will work. I say you should do a small test to see how it works.
NEAT! This is a great idea for my daughters diorama!
@Xythe43 home depot and I use acrylic but latex would work too
AWSOME. Looks like lots of fun. I would love to create a huge one. ( a bunch that I would put together)
Super Waterfall-Model!!!
Harry
Great instructions. Nice effects!
the foam is low density poly styrene you can find is as hardware stores in large sheet generally - it's often label as Insulation foam
@kawaiichan23 yes, very similiar, I use cardstock for the bottom, very similiar to cereal box
You are very good Sir. A real unique artist at that.
NICE WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just started trying my hand in dioramas. I made 3 just to try and used the DAP on one and liked the effect it gave. I just made a mini in a 4 inch round glass and tried a resin but not the same.

Just say "caulk" as much as you possible can. Oh my gods I nearly died. 😂
Hi I have two questions. First does it matter what side of the wax paper this needs to be done on? Secondly about how long do I have to wait before I can peel off the wax paper?
thats so cool i couldn't even do that how long did it take u to master the waterfall
The foam in mostly likely Low density polystyrene, or insulation foam, any DIU or home improvement/hardware store most like carried in large sheets and it's generally pink

And right now I' looking at your website the storm castle... I'm new with dioramas so i'm taking a tutorial using your site..
Beautiful. How do you make the mountain?
That looks amazing. Would be a great background for my cardboard house.
So what do you use for the filling in of the water.... the same stuff?
its lovely...!! thumbs up..!!!
I have a question though. Sadly all the grass packets I get from my craft store of diorama grass is always clumped up into bits of diorama grass.
