Just curious, wasn't it due to the socks5 proxy that TG had that recent lawsuit? They could see the data of the copyrighted material being transmitted over torrents(because socks5 doesn't encrypt data as you said), but they couldn't tell who was doing it(as you said as well), so TG got hit with the lawsuit. Makes me wonder why some would choose socks5 over VPN. Really don't lose that much speed on VPN using TG and it's comforting to know that all traffic is routed through the tunnel.
You are correct that SOCKS5 is faster than VPN but doesn’t encrypt your connection. SOCKS5 is often used for torrenting because it allows for faster download speeds and doesn’t require encryption. VPNs are generally slower but encrypt your connection. VPNs are more secure than SOCKS5 because they encrypt your connection and hide your IP address. I hope that helps!
If I've configuired a SOCKS5 proxy on qbittorent do I still need a VPN connection when downloading torrent files and magnets off the internet? Will my IP still be vulnerable with a proxy?
I'm a noob considering getting a vpn. From this vid, other than speed, I'm left confused how it's not better to have a single device (router) doing the job, vs leaving those the software can't be installed on exposed, i.e. TV, robovac.
My issue is at least with qbit, uploading on private trackers does not work, AND everytime torguard changes the IP I have to restart qbit so it's not really set and forget. Am I doing something wrong?
Yes. Assuming you are on WiFi; go to wifi settings, click "DETAILS" button on the connected WiFi, then from the details window, pick Proxies section. Put proxy details and viola.

Don’t think that was the reason

@@rrrandom "VPNs are more secure". Is this the same with the browser extension? And what about other devices in the home like TV & robovac?
Can we just use both for extra measure
Yes if you are Gay😂
They need extra security

Use code "tomspark2023" to get TorGuard's proxy.
