The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

oh this is amazing what a voice and subtle moves. Pure silk. hard to believe he did a tour (61or 62) where Sam Cooke and Jackie shared top billing. After about a week Sam told Jackie to go ahead and close all the shows. Man i bet the women went crazy for those two stars. A tragic ending for both, but the music they left us with will live on .Jackie the ultimate showman..

One of the rarest Jackie Wilson performances! Jackie is one of my favorite singers and I enjoy all his appearances on the Sullivan show. "The Greatest Hurt" charted at number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 around the time of his video. The song was written by Billy Myles who wrote the legendary doo-wop song "Tonite, Tonite" sung by the Mello-Kings in 1957 and also had his own Top 40 hit as a singer called "The Joker". Billy performed it on the Sullivan show, which would be great to see as well. Back to Jackie, I hope we also get to see his performance of "Hearts" someday from the same year as this. Thank you again for posting another video by the great Jackie Wilson!

Jackie had Stroke on stage during a Dick Clark concert. He lived his remaining 8 years in a nursing home
He was visited by Michael Jackson and Elvis who both paid for his care there and his funeral.he was ontube feeding and basically unable to talk or walk( his ex wife refused therapy for him) his girlfriend of few years had no say so. Ex wife took all his money along with hibeing cheated by his manager and record labal.very very sad the way he suffered. He was singing " Lonely Teardrops" when he collapsed. The crowd thought it was part of show but Dick Clark rushed out knowing it was not. Jackie was given CPR by quartet waiting to go on after him. Most tragic story. His tombstone says " No more lonely teardrops"

Jackie Wilson was my favorite solo soul singer. When I was in the Marine Corps and deployed to Vietnam, I always had his voice and songs on my mind. Whenever we visited a night club in the Pacific, I imitated his dancing style and everybody else in the club would stop to watch me and the girl I with dance. Jackie Wilson was truly a great inspiration to me and many others. RIP Jackie.

The guy with a tear in his eye! To all the youngsters out there, Michael Jackson cited this great man as his vocal inspiration. Yes, James Brown had the moves and was undoubtedly the very first influence for MJ's dancing.
Yet, Jackie Wilson always knew how to make women swoon. That heartbreak twinged with longing. Combined, these 2 made for great entertainment.
A big recommendation would be NO PITY IN THE NAKED CITY. Great recording from 1965!

The label was oversaturating the market with singles by Jackie. 10 releases in 1961 alone! Now in '62, he was beginning to drop out of the top 40 after charting high since 1957. He would rebound in '63 with "Baby Workout" and keep up a high profile with "Higher and Higher" in '67. (no pun intended)

The label was NOT over saturating Jackie Wilson. Of the "10 releases", 5 were double sided hits. You can't blame an artist because some disc jockey flipped the record over and the "B" side also became a hit. Every artist wishes it.
In 1960, he had 3 double sided hits as well, therefore 6 hits on the charts , the first being "Night" & "Doggin Around", both sides going "Gold".
Back in the day, you couldn't give record buyers too much of Jackie. Just like his stage shows, they kept begging go more.

Her biography, like that of many other great stars of his class, shows that natural talent sometimes prevails over a hectic and undesirable pace of life.
