Jason single-handedly rebalancing the universe from a billion Shorts and TikToks. Not all heroes wear capes. Or pants.
He's got reels? I must find them He has completely transformed my photography, and brought it back to life. Thanks
A 3 hour grainydays video is exactly what I wanted for Christmas 🎄
Edit: As an Indiana boy, I can confirm that we don't exist.
omlll i didnt realise it was 3 hours till i saw ur comment 30 mins flew by
Came to the comments in the middle of watching, saw your comment and only then noticed that the video is 3h haha
This is probably his best video yet. It actually feels like we’re all taking a journey here
Right!! Also the longest video i watched on youtube fully! 😊
Unreal video mate. The amount of effort it takes to not only film such a journey and then edit it and all the photos too is insane. Massive respect to you. Easily the best photography TH-cam channel. Can’t wait for the next one x
Probably only a few of your viewers have any idea how exhausting it is to ride a motorcycle day after day, especially in the heat. Props for making the trip by bike. Always been a dream of mine.
I’ve done 850 miles in a day a couple of times. Memorable but very difficult!
The pain of sitting at a light in full gear and 100 degree heat. pure hell.
Sitting in the heat on a Harley with an exhaust header two inches from your thigh. Now that’s not fun!
@Lisa W he's lucky he didn't take a dive, especially as a new rider. I've seen way too many skin rash/meat crayon photos to even consider wearing a t-shirt on my bike
A 3 hour video, right before Christmas eve? Thank you for blessing us Jason. May your holidays be flamin' hot!
Took me several days to watch this whole video and I have to say, it was worth watching every minute. Such an awesome trip, and the images were even better.
I’m about 30 minutes in and I’m absolutely loving the video so far! I’m going to continue the video this evening after dinner. Anyone else watch his long form content like this? It’s as amazing a feeling as remembering you have some left over pizza you can still eat!
I do, theres literally so much to learn from him. Even the technique of shooting 800t overexposed during daylight.
This just reminded me that I have left over pizza to eat… awesome
It's amazing what they can do with CG nowadays. The plotline was a little thin, but the special effects definitely did not disappoint. The motorcycles looked incredible, the 2 main people looked a little off, but hey this isn't Avatar budget.
Right as I’m on the verge of giving up on my photography career Jason comes along with enough inspiration to keep me going for all of 2023!
with just one single video
I "saved up" the videos from the last 2 months for a cozy christmas binge, just to be presented with a 3 hour mega film. This truly is the season to be jolly. Thanks a lot, Mr Kummerfeldt.
Grainydays on the first day of Christmas break? The best gift
I've been watching through your back catalog of videos and really enjoying them. I think I'll have to watch this one in stages, but I am loving the balls required to upload such a long video nowadays.
I feel like Jason has a very organized, or very insane working schedule around recording and editing videos. It's kinda impressive how relatively regular he posts, considering how big some of his projects are. He should make a video about it.
I’ve watched a lot of travel videos in my time but this one without a doubt has more gas stations per minute than any other one I’ve ever watched
A 3 hour long Grainydays epic movie?
YES PLEASE!!!!!
This was a spiritual experience. I watched all 2:47:51 over the span of about a week and every time I moved my cursor to check my progress, I'd let out a small sigh knowing I was just that much closer to finishing it. Thank you, Jason. Fucking masterpiece.
if the aerochrome clone is a lightroom preset that'll be my final straw
70 km/beaver had me dying, lovely shots and amazing video Jason
wouldnt have bet my life savings on you doing a motorcycle trip across the country but here it is
Holy crap… I was like “no bloody way can he put together a commentary for a 3-hour video”. Well done!
What a legend. Thank you for what you do, Jason. I'm sure at times the "work" of it all gets heavy. Just know that there's a lot of us out there that genuinely appreciate your time and effort.
I think a long trip like this should be an annual event, I really enjoy these road trip videos.
i was gonna watch for a little while before going to bed but i’m already 47mins in. only grainydays could make a 3hrs long video that i’d watch over and over again
Not only is this a wonderful photography video, I think this is one of the greatest road trip docs I've ever seen in my life.
I had a feeling it was a in testing aero chrome by the fact it was turning non infared absorbing things colors. Super excited to see what’s to come. Rad movie btw
im not up to date but i just fin this video, ever find out where to buy if it finished testing and got released
Usually these road-trip videos are pretty boring, but your narrative and penchant for film made this really enjoyable- welcome to motorcycling!
Grainydays rides a motorcycle now?!? My favorite photography channel just became my fave moto photography channel :) Thanks for the inspiration as always, I'm hoping to make my own coast to coast journey on my bike some day and photography along the way will be vital - this was a great way to get the creative juices flowing - haven't finished the video yet but thought I'd say "thanks" in advance!
looks whos here!
Toddler approved content: my little 18 month-old girl sat with me and intently watched the whole thing over the past couple of days. We had to pause a few times because she took a dump while watching and needed a diaper change, so there's that. Nice travelogue. If you get the chance to travel like this by bicycle, do it! It is so much easier to stop your bike and take a picture along the way. The scenery changes slower too, so you can see so much more. You'll still have a sore butt though.
I really enjoy when you make long videos like this!
Edit: HOLY SHIT THAT'S BIG NEWS
I usually don't comment on videos much but a 3 hour video that is not filled with unnecessarily long scenes or clickbait and stuff but instead just quality content? Kudos man! I know you're always joking and being self-ironic in your videos but this is some amazing stuff! I watched it in three parts on three different days just to be able to enjoy it longer and not just binge-watch it away. This was an absolute joy! Thank you for that one!
YES, my favorite things, motorcycles and film photography! Welcome to the motorcycling world Jason, stay safe!
First of all, congratulations for this documentary, the editing is at another level, the normality shown correctly (nothing extravagant or cheesy), a visual and audio delight! You or probably Tim managed to exemplify the aesthetics that belong only to the US, sometimes simple/common locations where only an experienced eye can exemplify their uniqueness. Big hugs, all the best and I hope for more similar experiences!
The documentation of your trip is not only epic, but to be extremely commended!
this motorcycle/film photography roadtrip situation you have going is literally my favorite content on youtube right now
it took 4 days to watch, but i've done it and it was awesome, great film, blown away by how well the honda rebel seemed to handle the whole trip no problems, other than rusty bolts, also love the aerochrome shots, but i gotta say as cool as the pink infrared of the aerochrome is i really like what it does to water, and pools, looks like a sheet of see through ice. literally just found your channel this week and already ebay'd my first point and shoot 35mm, surprisingly it was 5 dollars.
Wow… the intrigue, the drama, the romantic tension, the surprise ending, the costuming, the makeup, the special effects… it’s all stunning. The only problem is, Jason, don’t you know you have to have a theatrical release to be eligible for an Oscar?
Babe, wake up, new grainydays just dropped
Five times I've relaxed to watch this. Five times I've napped amazingly well. That voice is just so soporific. Love it.
Literally watched this over the course of a week for that single tidbit of info about the Aerocrhome. Well played sir.
Came home from skating down to the beach and TH-cam randomly put this on for my dog, I sat down and started watching towards the beginning. By far my favorite part was watching your “on the road” film work progress throughout the trip, that was really fun for me to watch. I think the biggest L of the trip is the fact that you didn’t pack an eno hammock. It’s super small and compact and just as comfy as a bed. You would’ve never had to sleep on the floor.
May I say... Monica is a gem. this was an epic journey and you did a good series of pictures and video to document the trip. Cool
Legit, loved every second of this. Also, hope that testing phase is over soon and we can all shoot that aero film shit.
I wont watch a 3hr Avatar movie but ill definitely watch this! Fantastic content! Thanks for documenting ur trip for us.
i adore that vegas hotel so much. as somebody who has spent around half my life watching americans doing american things in america this video has just doubled my desire to travel there. nevertheless, thanks for putting out such a long video, i’m going to spread it out until like june 2024.
What did I do to deserve this almost 3 hour epic? Thank you!
Great video and impressive production. Was that really only a 500cc bike? Respect all round.
One of your best works ever Jason! Thank you for blessing us with this masterpiece
I've watched this twice and can honestly appreciate the Dodge City and Tempe locations as they are where I'm from and where I reside. Never thought I'd here Dodge City mentioned on the internet about anything much less in reference to photography. Times are changing - Good shit :)
2 hour grainydays video 👏 so excited also it’s actually close to 3 hours
I watch your videos while I edit weddings and it's absolutely perfect. You're gently telling me a story while I work away. I can't wait to head out on my own bike tours.
Very ambitious trip. Enjoyed it. Can't even imagine the amount of editing this took. You and Tim will treasure this memory and the hardship and beauty you got to endure
what an absolute BEAST of a video and an epic trip. Major kudos for you guys doing this on bikes... man.. I know I'm not capable of doing that, so all the power to you and Tim on that one. I'm kinda echoing what's already been said, but I truly appreciate the amount of work you put into your videos (especially this super long form). You're one of the few people I'd sit and watch something like this for, and that is a testament to not only your photography, but your ability to entertain. Super stoked to hear about this faux aerochrome business. I'm 100% on board if it becomes a thing.
Dude the glasshouse shots (1:14) on Aerochrome look amazing!!
edit: just finished watching and it was really cool man!
So it's not Aerochrome, I'm intrigued. Also whatever this is, I wanna shoot it, you got some killer shots during this trip with this film stock!
This is the first comment I have made on a youtube video, despite thousands of hours in the can, and I had to because this film was some of the best content I've ever watched. I consumed it over about a week and each time I returned to it I was a little bit sad that I had less of it to watch in the future. It is travel blog, education, storytelling, and beautiful cinematography all rolled into one. I will be a loyal follower from now on.
Thanks for including my broad aussie accent in your awesome road trip video Jason! Hopefully one day soon I will visit the US and you will feature in one of my videos 📸🎞️🙋🏻♀️thanks for all your support this year. I’ll be hitting you up for round two of my podcast in 2023 so brush up on your serial killers 😅😉
It's ironic listening to y'all talk about the warm weather while I'm in the middle of this "arctic blast."
2 hours 47 mins of Jason??!!??!! Jason.... you are an absolute f*****g diamond my friend. Christmas wishes from Wales UK
Nice video. I really like the close in on the orange sneakers, it gave a pull you in to the excitement of the game feel. Glad to hear you are enjoying the 50-400mm.
This is awesome, Jason. It's exactly what I'd be doing with my camera and motorcycle here in the Netherlands...if I had friends
What an epic show! That is the kind of trip I would like to do some day, but not necessarily with camping. Extra kudos for that.
Awesome photos AND video as always. My favorite images were among the dramatic and introspective B&W and otherworldly fake "aerochrome". You showed so much of your life on the road that I almost felt like I was there. Indeed, I didn't get out of my chair once the whole way thru. I can't begin to list all the things I liked here.
Not to take anything away from that 700 mile trip, but look up "Iron Butt". I cannot even begin to imagine what that would be like. Respect for your riding and perseverance! Edit: And Tail of the Dragon as a (relative) newbie! Extra credit!
Well done man. I'm struggling to edit together a week-long cycling trip from 2 rolls and a 128GB SD; I don't know how you organise yourself so well but I'm taking notes.
I spent two years studying commercial art in the early 70s at Mankato. It was a nice town with beautiful parks. The Blue Earth and Minnesota Rivers both run through the area and in the early 20th century some moonshine activity. Both a college and a nice vocational school are there. I bought a beautiful BSA Rocket Three at a bike shop there with part of an educational loan. When I was there the downtown area hadn't been ruined yet and there were several good bars there.
if you think i’m going to watch a three hour video instead of spending the holidays with my family… you’re absolutely right
Dude, what a masterpiece. Would love to learn more about the workflow of shooting and saving the images and videos in a long trip like this. Mad props, Jason!
I remember Jason vaguely mentioning that he's a visual effects artist. But has anyone ever take a look at his IMDb page? Some quite impressive credits.

The kind of video I save to watch again and again. This isn't just a TH-cam video, it's a movie.
man, long bathroom break
A fantastic achievement on all counts. I appreciate the huge amount of time and energy that goes into making something like this. Thank you.
So sick! Really enjoyed this whole journey 🔥I wonder if the difference in Aerochrome colors is due to altitude?
Just finished watching over the course of a week. 15 minutes at a time. Something mesmerising about the format, like hanging out with mates. Loved it. Thank you!
Ah yes, another road trip video to add to the “constant replay” playlist.
Thanks!
As a fellow Tim, I feel extremely represented in this flick 🙌
I’m that Tim. I represent you brother 😂
@@tcgrey5703 Hahah, cheers man! Happy New Year!
Wonderful, perfect hangover viewing over the festive period. 5 stars.
Daddy Jason gave us an early Christmas present which was a 3 hour video for us ❤
yours is the only photography related channel i care to watch. Awesome stuff, man. Thanks.
Now I have to rewatch the whole thing and count how many gas station pull ins are in it.
If you do, please make a timecode list in a new comment. I thought about it but it was too late and I'm too lazy!
Downtown Milwaukee is gorgeous...buildings built in the 1800's and old Americana vibes...the Pabst Theater and the old Milwaukee City Hall are stunning, as are the river which courses through downtown.
Anyone got any info on this Aerochrome clone?
What a sense of freedom, a bike, friends whiskey and a camera what else do you need!!! Awesome work and thanks for taking us on your trip!
You inspire me to not be afraid of taking crappy photos.
Dude, just one day before Christmas eve, I become sick. It should be the first Christmas with my girlfriend and our families. Watching your video made me feel better, and I hope I‘ll be better tomorrow. And thank you for one more year of incredible videos, okay jokes, and photos that are…fine I guess. Cheers mate!
Impressive work! I'm happy to see the Waffle House is available as a print, that one really stood out to me. I feel like all the "aerochrome" shots would make a great photo book, too.
Wow you just combined my 2 favorite Hobbys. 🎞🏍 Short Video About your motorcycle Gear and bike?
Thx merry Flaming hot christmas 🥃
this is perhaps the best pre-christmas gift i've ever gotten, may your holidays be flaming hot, jason :)
Brilliant, mate. Travel is something nobody can ever take away from you!
Just want to say that the still video work from this trip is my favorite part. The 4x5 view and the film-like coloring is just special to me 🤠
This has got to be your best video yet. The vibes, the jokes, the photos all perfect. For me personally this brought back so many great memories from my family’s 5 week road trip across the US. One question, what watch are you wearing on this trip? I’m a watch nerd in addition to a photographer.
Thanks and keep up the amazing work!
Great video! Tons of motorcycle travel inspo. Also, REALLY looking forward to getting some of that Aerochrome knock-off film, it looks SO sick.
A journey with friends and a few film cameras is what I need. I just need to get myself some friends and then find the right trip.
I literally can’t explain how I feel right now! This video is so beautiful and a genuine masterpiece. It also convinced me to try and shoot black and white which I hadn’t been interested in before. I love the long form content. Stick it to the algorithm
I've watched every single one of your videos and love them. It was really surreal seeing a photos of the gas station in NH that I stop at a few times a week.
"oh cool, I'll watch the first 20/30 minutes..." 5 AM and 3 hours later.. what a documentary! Thanks for the free entertainment
This film is unbelievable good I can’t believe I’ve just find this channel now! Can’t wait to watch all the other vids !
The way you transform the mundane and banal into art is incredible
This work is true Art. Great Job. An incredible experience. I really respect your work. Do more, it go down in history.
What a great, relaxing film man. I’d much rather watch this than tv any day.
This was awesome, Jason! Thanks for sharing your fantastic photos and adventures with us. Looking forward to more great stuff in 2023. Wishing all the best to you, Monica, and Baxter.
