On that day that you went there the Queen was not in because the royal ER flag was not flying and if she was in there would be more than 2 guards. And it is not real gold it is brass
Great Video! The Queen is only in residence if The Royal Standard is flying, not the Union Flag. Cracking Video! I love Buckingham Palace, and am a devout Royalist!
Great video Tim, Thanks. The guards are called the Queen's guards. They are usually chosen from 5 different regiments (Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish or Welsh). Beefeaters guard the Tower of London. The birds are rock doves (now called feral pigeons) which are smaller than seagulls & not related in any way, but still crap a lot.
Great video Tim, thank you. Its years since I've been to London, used to go there almost every weekend, when I lived down in Hampshire, so much to see and do. I hope you are going to do more of London when you are able. Take care and stay safe.
Watched this one at 4am .. and few others .nice to watch and think spring on it's way.. you and gimble walk tv really highlight what great places we have in the uk .well done
Not from the UK though I would be very proud if I were! Just always fascinated with British history after all you are our mother country! The movie that got me started watching British history was the first I saw in a color TV!! It was Becket! After that I watched whatever I could. I also like The Tudors that I have watched on my Roku but my all time favorite series from quite a while ago is and was Elizabeth R with Glenda Jackson! You can laugh but I have watched that series at least a dozen times - never tire of it. I have the DVD's now so can view when I please. You are a great representative of your countryand I so enjoy hearing your narratives and watching your videos!
Hello Paul. Just one important point. Be wary of the difference between 'history' and the current craze for 'historifiction'. The authors of "The Crown" are using actual historic events and personalities but the dialogue is 99% invention as what was said in private conversations between members of the RF behind closed doors is unknown.
@@gordonsmith8899 Thanks Gordon. I will bear in mind that this is like a "Hollywood" enactment and not to be taken literally. Irt is still quite enjoyable in any case. Have started watching all the various streaming murder mysteries and DCI shows on Roku and I enjoy all of them so much. Get to see some beautiful countryside too!
That old Elizabeth R with Glenda Jackson was fabulous! Did you watch the 6 Wives of Henry VIII? Keith Mitchell, I think, was Henry, Annette Crosby was Katherine of Aragon and various other very good actresses- I was just a kid when I saw it, but I just loved it!
Fascinating to find out about Rules Restaurant from 1798 gosh we all learn so much from you ... that will be a destination definitely one day hopefully soon - Thank you
Another smashing great video! I will never get to the Palace in person and now you have taken me there from here in my home. I too love the series The Crown and have watched it all - some parts more than once. Your aerial views give a great perspective. I love it! You should narrate books. I couldlisten to your voice all day.
Very enjoyable, Tim. I don’t think the king is a big fan of Buck House and I suspect he will mostly live elsewhere and use the palace for ceremonial occasions only
If the Queen(now the King) is in residence, the flag flying would be the royal standard. If the King is not in residence, the flag flying would be the union jack.
The queen is under lockdown the same as us! I lived in London for many years and always thought it to be a very dirty city, the buildings are dirty and we moved out because I didn’t want to bring my children up in an area where kids were selling drugs on the street. Tim beefeaters and yeoman of the guard are in the Tower of London, the guards outside the palace are normally grenadiers, Welsh guardsmen, Irish guards as they rotate from time to time.
we'd not long been to visit buckingham palace and bloody hell, was it great to be back there again, my 7 year old girl particularly enjoyed herself. also id like to say that the video was really good.
Great video Tim👍 Happy memories of studying for my nursing exams, under a tree with my music on and feeding the ducks (no parakeets in those days) in St James Park during a hot summer many moons ago. Lovely park 😊

Such a stunning city! 💜 You showcase it beautifully! Love learning about its history through your walks. I visited London twice and can’t wait to return when possible. 🙏🏼 (I know the Palace guards as “grenadiers”...) The term “Beefeater” is interesting! 😄
Beefeaters work at the tower of London. The Grenadiers are just one of the guards regiments of the British Army. The others are the Scots, Welsh, Irish and Coldstream guards
Tim The Victoria Memorial is a monument to Queen Victoria, located at the end of The Mall in London, and designed and executed by the sculptor (Sir) Thomas Brock. ... The central pylon of the memorial is of Pentelic marble, and individual statues are in Lasa marble and gilt bronze. At the top of the central pylon stands a gilded bronze Winged Victory, standing on a globe and with a victor's palm in one hand. Beneath her are personifications of Constancy, holding a compass with its needle pointing true north, and Courage, holding a club. Beneath these, on the eastern and western sides, are two eagles with wings outspread, representing Empire. Below these, statues of an enthroned Queen Victoria (facing The Mall) and of Motherhood (facing Buckingham Palace), with Justice (facing north-west towards Green Park) and Truth (facing south-east).These were created from solid blocks of marble, with Truth being sculpted from a block weighing 40 tonnes. Badly kept secret - when dramas like The Crown and others need scenes inside Buckingham Palace, they actually use Lancaster House which is just across Green Park next to Clarence House and St James's Palace. Lancaster House belongs to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and apart from being a filming location, is an office for that department of Government. It is also used for major meetings. Are tourists allowed to go inside the palace if yes then where does the queen exactly stays ?
