Victorinox will replace if the original cannot be repaired. My father bought a Victorinox in the early 60’s, when he passed away I received his knife which had several broken blades. This knife was when they used the steel crossbow with the words Switzerland engraved on it on the outer case. Anyway, send it to the US location to fix, they said that I have a special knife and they can’t repair it but offered me a replacement. I told them it wasn’t about getting a replacement but it was more about my father’s memory😢. I didn’t hear back for a while until several weeks later when the knife arrived. Apparently, then sent the knife to Switzerland where they completely replace all of the inside but retained the original outer case. This was back in the early 80’s. I was really impressed by their work.
It's so refreshing to hear that a company cares about customer service and not the bottom line. It's definitely a rarity but goes to show companies like Victorinox are the diamonds in the ruff.
This is definitely all to do with their bottom line. The difference is they're taking a very long-term view. This is an investment. No brand ambassador is quite as effective as a customer who is 1000% happy with every part of their service. These guys are clearly old school. They KNOW that going above and beyond for one customer begets more.
I totally agree and I see build quality, a company’s reputation and motivation, and their customer service record all important factors to consider when making many purchases. But in this age of planned obsolescence and disposable consumerism, I know I’m in the minority. Too many folks were never taught or have never realized that spending more on a quality product or tool from a good company that cares about its customers will not only be cheaper than buying and replacing inferior products, but it often out performs the cheaper item.
Thats just incredible. I have just recently started to buy a few 91mm knives to throw into a pocket of my M65 Field jacket for those "just in case '' scenarios. Bought a few on Ebay that were used and just needed some new scales. These things are so easy to keep maintained and I have watched some videos of all the things that can be accomplished with them ; it's just mind blowing! What a great product and company!!!
I have had a Swiss Champion since the mid-80s. The awl chipped, the flat head screwdriver chipped, and the Scissors came loose. After your video I sent it back for repairs. It came back to me in a bag like yours did, but they replaced it with a new Champion! I thought that model had been discontinued! I am more than happy. I have 4 SAKs now. I've lost 3 others. This kind of service is why I keep coming back, and me losing them is why I now put a lanyard on them!
Leatherman is another great "Stand Behind Our Product" company. I bought a Leatherman Sidekick for $10 at a garage sale and carried it for a couple years. The anti-rotation tab of the pocket clip broke at some point, so I requested their warranty repair service. I mailed it in and they not only replaced the pocket clip, but also cleaned and sharpened everything. All it cost was the $4 or so to ship it. Nice to know Victorinox is like this and domestic as well!
I have not had to use the Leatherman warranty, but Gerber was very nice. I sent in a well used MP multitool and they sent it back sharp and replaced the broken tools, annnd included a brand new Velcro sheath for it.
Finch does that..I had a knife that had a rattle..I told them I just wanted to take it apart and not void the warranty but they asked for a pic of the receipt and sent me a new one..I told him it was fine but they sent one anyway..great video..glad it worked out..Thank you for the tag!
Great video. Nice to see a company that still proudly stands behind their products. Nice to see people putting out appreciation videos too. Get a little tired of all of the complaining these days. Thanks for taking the time to produce and share this video.
Thank you. I do my best not to complain in videos. If I don't like it, I just don't talk about it. Except for one company. 😂 But I'll leave that for another day.
Victorinox warranty is absolutely amazing! I have used it once for a 1970s climber that they restored to its former glory and I always use it to replace regular scales by plus scales, they do it for a very low price which is totally worth it!
Just watched this video. I had a nearly identical experience. Before we got married (over 25 years ago) my wife had bought me a Victorinox Cyber Tool. I used it extensively for the next 15 years to the point that one the scales fell off, I had broken a couple of tips off of the blades and had bent the scissors. Since it was nearly unusable, it sat in a drawer for the last 10 years. I have a few other Victorinox knives around so I wasn't without one. However, earlier this year I thought I would see what it would take to send it it. I was willing to pay just about anything just to have the scale replaced, and the knives fixed. Similar to your story, they asked for $5 and if there is any more cost they would let me know. After a couple of weeks I received mine and they had replaced nearly every tool on it and replaced the scales. It was pretty much a brand new knife for just $5. I love Victorinox. To say "above and beyond" really doesn't even do it justice. Great company!
If you look closely the lose part you got back is the old part they replaced on your knife, the rest of the parts in your "new" knife is the old parts from the knife you send in.
That's something I didn't consider! Though after closer inspection, it all still looks new. Without taking it apart, I guess I'll never know the truth. Lol.
I have a Victorinox i got from my parents in 1989 or 1990 iirc. And it has a problem for 15 years now. But i never sent it in for a specific reason, and this video confirms my decision: It was the first pocket knife i got at age 9 or 10. And i used it a lot and carried it for many years and it has a very special sentimental value to me. It was from a line that is now discontinued: The econo line of back then, which meant a different swiss shield on the scales and no scale tools and no key ring. The problem it has is that the corkscrew isn't staying closed anymore. (i played with it for so much, i think that i rounded over the rearend where the spring pushes against it.) So my fear was that they would have to replace the scales at least to repair it. And then a lot of the sentimental value would be gone. A pile of parts is not the same as the not 100% funcitoning knife. ->i chose to buy a new one back then and set the sentimental one aside so it can stay at home "in well earned retirement"
There is an option to check if the knife is sentimental. I did not check that box. With that said, these knives are inexpensive enough that I would just buy another and leave your original untouched. Like you mentioned. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts!
I had an old Explorer that was of great sentimental value. The scissors broke (after 50 years constant use) but I didn't want a new knife as the scratches & faded scales represented years of use. I just told them this when I sent it for repair. They cleaned it & sharpened it & replaced the scissors so it works well again, but they kept the old faded scales & didn't polish out the scratches on the blades. Nor did they replace the old magnifier with the new type. I was absolutely delighted with the result. They charged me about £10 (This is in the UK). Just brilliant service.
5:12 Vortex Optics. They'll replace it no matter what. Even if it's your fault it's in pieces, as long as there are enough piwces left to tell what it is 😅
@@SurvivingtheDaily I think someone sat down and figured out that, with those margins, replacing 1% of all items sold is nothing compared to the good will it buys them with the customer. Good will which translates to sales 😉

I had exactly the same experience with Garmin Fenix 5 which was replaced for me for free 2 years after warranty expired for issue caused by static electricity which I know would be resolved by itself after 2 weeks. Kudos to Victorinox and to Garmin!
As far as I know they will try to fix it the best they can or replace it with something comparable. If it is not in production, there is a box that I would check saying this knife is sentimental. By doing that, they will most likely not take extreme measures to fix it.
I need to warrant a pair of scissors on my Tinker that snapped the spring a few weeks ago. Just haven't gotten around to it. Should be an easy fix though.
Same, sent a Victorinox Fisherman in, got a brand new knife back. Was kinda sad that my old faithful friend probably got binned, but the company is amazing. The best knife in the world is a Victorinox Workchamp. I’ve had one for 20 years and I wanted to buy another just in case I broke the first, but it has never happened, it is just perfection. I made a cabinet panel door, with that knife, in my lunch break, out of scrap wood, that is how world beating it is, a bloody whole door, using one knife😮😮😮😳🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️😆😆😆♥️♥️♥️
Can't beat their quality and customer service!! That's a very productive lunch break! 😂 Curious though, how long ago did you send that Fisherman in? I hear that they are charging now.
The thing about going "low cost", it means they're also inexpensive to replace, so they can afford to do this sort of thing all day long. It probably cost more to have someone take the old one apart than to issue a replacement. Though I would feel kind of sad if it had sentimental value and they just sent back a bag of parts.
It's quite amazing how refined the process is. That it is so low cost yet quality made. They can sell you a product and in thirty years, replace it. At no or low cost to the consumer.

The three I have sent back, I got new scales, but none of the tools were replaced, and I don't even think they were sharpened. Kinda disappointed, truth be told. No new tools or new knife. Maybe they changed their policy in the last few years.
That's kinda why I mentioned not to send your knives in and expect the same service. Maybe, the person I had, who inspected it, was feeling especially generous. That's too bad your results weren't the same as mine.
@@SurvivingtheDaily To be fair, two I sent in were Cybertool (M and L), both out of stock/no longer sold, and the other was a Swiss Champ. BUT, I expressly asked for sharpening, oiling, scales and scale tools replaced, and J think one of my tools needed replaced/unbent, and all I got was scales/tools, from what I could tell. Meh. VERY nice of them to send you a new one, AND the old one for parts/customizing another knife. 🍻
Leatherman two times in the last 15 years I sent a knife in to be fixed and he sent me back a brand new surge, I know it’s human nature to never be happy so I was a little annoyed. The first one had the little eyeglass screwdriver. The new one didn’t have it, the second time they sent me another new one, and I was pissed because it took me years for that break in. Maybe I need to take a good look at myself in the mirror ha ha ha ha
You sent them in to be fixed, not replaced. I can understand your frustration. I wonder what they would do with something that has been long discontinued.
@@SurvivingtheDaily I don’t know, but I’m sure they’ll do the right thing, if it was given to you as a gift and it was engraved. Maybe they would save that one part I don’t know. But I do know they would do the right thing.
Unfortunately, as of early 2024, they've become stricter on warranty service. I sent in a knife with broken blades and hard-to-open tools, they wanted $15+tax to repair it. When I asked about the charge, I received this reply: "Our Lifetime warranty covers the original owner with proof of purchase against manufacturing defects. For many years, we repaired and serviced knives under warranty, which in fact did not meet the requirements. Earlier this year, we made the decision to uphold our warranty properly. We are happy to repair our knives as needed so our loyal customers can enjoy them for many years to come. When the damage to the knives is outside of our warranty, we are still happy to complete the necessary repairs, however there is a repair fee: $8 for smaller knives and $15 for larger knives."
That is a fantastic idea! I bought a sh** ton of SAKs last fall because the prices dropped like a brick. Now they are back up to where they were originally. Crazy!
I wouldn't be so cheerful. If I send it for cleaning and sharpening, that's what I want. It is cheaper for them to replace it for some models, but if I go trough the warranty hassle, shipping, etc, is probably because I want a restoration on a memory gift, or something inherited from someone dear who passed away... I would be pretty pissed if they destroyed like that.
There is an option, that I did not check, that states "this item is sentimental." I'm only guessing but if that was in fact checked, they would not have been so destructive.
thats why i rock a swiss army knive and my multitool is a spirit

@@SurvivingtheDaily To be fair, two I sent in were Cybertool (M and L), both out of stock/no longer sold, and the other was a Swiss Champ. BUT, I expressly asked for sharpening, oiling, scales and scale tools replaced, and J think one of my tools needed replaced/unbent, and all I got was scales/tools, from what I could tell. Meh. VERY nice of them to send you a new one, AND the old one for parts/customizing another knife. 🍻
@@OutsideTheTargetDemographic still an amazing service they offer. Especially for that swiss champ. Pretty cool!!
I bet eBay has the tools to build it stronger, faster and better,.
Uhhhhgg. Now I need to start modding it. 😂
Wow 😮
Amazing, isn't it?

Thank you sir!
Given how overpriced they are you should get a high level of service.
Victorinox is selling the knife in the video for under $29 on Amazon right now. Maybe it's just me but I don't think that's over priced.
Overpriced if they were rebranding cheap Chinese OEM products with their own logo. They design and manufacture their products in Switzerland.
The answer is none not even cold steel has a great warranty.
I'm back!!! lol. I have sooo much thrifted edc to share. I have to get my butt in gear and get some videos out.
We need thrifting videos!!! Happy to know you're back!
Nice!
Thank you my friend!
They haven't made any good quality for the last 20 years just gets worse. But not victorinox best quality all the time every year.
I imagine it's cheaper to simply replace the knife than to try and repair it. Looks like a lot of wear and tear--might as well replace it.
I thought that was the route they were going to take.
They should have sent your knife back untouched in case of sentimental value.
They did have that option on the form I filled out. I did not check it.
Oh, that's okay, as long as that's an option. It must be way cheaper for them to just send a new knife. They're cheap anyway!
That's a real bummer. Sending in and getting a $30 knife repaired isn't worth it, in my opinion. They may feel the same way.
Hey mate greetings from Australia.was this price USD?
@@robbmckenzie8379 Yes, that was in USD.
It's a shame but it is fair tbh
PS. I'm going to go out and buy a couple more of their knives. I need some place to park my money. It's either crypto or SAKs.
That is a fantastic idea! I bought a sh** ton of SAKs last fall because the prices dropped like a brick. Now they are back up to where they were originally. Crazy!
you gave me a fucking heart attack before you showed the brand new one
Trust me, I had a heart attack pulling out the bag of pieces before I found the new one. Youre not alone. Lol
You dont have the springs to put it back
And I think I'm missing a couple tools!
I bet ebay has the tools to build it stronger, faster and better,.
