“The reason Muppets Christmas Carol and Muppets Treasure Island are so good is because Michael Caine treated the muppets as fellow actors, and Tim Curry treated himself as a fellow muppet” is one of my favorite takes on these movies of all time.
Truer words have never been spoken.
14:28 The joke is that in A Christmas Carol, that character is named Fezziwig, Scrooge's old boss. But the Muppet they have playing him is Fozzie Bear, so they did a pun and called him Fozziwig in the movie.
16:01 - 16:28 Last year's Scrooge: A Christmas Carol on Netflix has a similar scene. Luke Evan's singing as Scrooge alongside Isabelle from the past is beautiful, almost like he's begging himself to go with her rather than focus on business and profit, even though he knows it's futile and already too late.
"What is holly?" It's a plant that's often confused for mistletoe. If you see white berries and smooth oval leaves, you've got mistletoe; if you see red berries and spikey leaves, you've got holly.
So are they like really plants?
@@theduckgoesmoo Indeed, they are.
I feel it should be mentioned that we can't eat holly berries, they're poisonous. To people and pets.
@@theduckgoesmoo most houses actually have holly infront of it.
It really does have painful little leaves that can help detour burglars that might have come through a window. It also looks nice, doesn’t tend to loose it’s leaves, and grows pretty quickly.
Also snippets of the branches can help decorate the house for Christmas.
14:31 The original character was named Mr. Fezziwig. Naturally, if you're gonna get Fozzie Bear to play his role, why WOULDN'T you make the pun?
Duck, you can act like a huge hater of musicals all you want, but we all know it's a sham, what with your love of Helluva Boss, Hazbin Hotel, and Lackadasy.
As for A Christmas Carol, I already said my peace in the last reaction of Nostalgia Critic doing this story. It's honestly hard to say anything else without repeating myself, so just go read that comment again.
I literally had a poll on which Christmas Carol version is everyone’s favorite, and The Muppet Christmas Carol won. I knew it was charming and delightful, but I didn’t think everyone would love it that much. 😅
Gonna suggest his new Wakko's Wish video, it's still enjoyable even if you barely know anything about Animaniacs (not like that's any different to how most of you reactions play out (it's more surprising for you to know about the source material at this point)) and his review clearly has a lot of heart in it.
TMCC is the most truthful to the 1898 Charles Dickens novella so clearly it’s the best version of the story.
Since the next Nostalgia Critc is to take place on Christmas, I suggest it's time for another holiday poll. My suggestion being...
I'll be home for Christmas
Christmas Story Live
Batman Returns
Deck the Hall
and finally, Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas ever
Batman Returns for sure
I want him to do Christmas Story Live. That's one of my favorite Nostalgia Critic videos
Batman Returns!
Those babies who some people said were cute?
I don't think anyone in the history of ever has called Bobby Benson and his Baby Band cute. Those things spend less time playing music and more time trying to kill each other.
When they performed Pennsylvania 6-5000, any chance to punch, kick, or whack each other with their own instruments, they took it!
I love this movie despite all its flaws. It is our family tradition every Christmas to watch this movie.
Personally, I disagree with him. Of all the versions of the Christmas Carol I've seen, Muppets is the definitive one. Between things like the addition of Gonzo as a narrator, the wonderful songs, and the combination of adult themes and childishness, this is the Christmas movie I'm always the most excited to watch when the time rolls around.
Though, from a more critical perspective, I understand why some don't view it as number one. I guess that's the result of a little nostalgia not just for the movie, but the Muppets as well.
He didn't even attempt to hide that he is an Christmas Carol snob.
What did your friends say when they found out that you thought the Macarena was a holiday?
At this point no one is surprised
Michel Cane said he’d play the part of angry Scrooge “as serious as a car accident”.
Wilkins Coffee Company went out of business sometime in the 80’s which was around the time that the ads entered public domain.
Have you considered watching Lost in Adaptation before? Dominic Noble's series, he takes films and the books they were based on and compares them. He did a really big one on Christmas Carol and all its most famous adaptations.
Actually that is a fantastic idea. Also we would get even MORE media Duck has never heard of despite being in the mainstream lol
@@bosiagan Then again "I'm going to take this book you've never heard of and this movie you've never seen and tell you how different they are" might be a hard sell.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I kinda like the Christmas Past puppet. The description in the book is of a ghost like a flickering candle flame, with the features fluctuating between those of a child and an elder. The puppet's uncanny valley look surprisingly fits that, because the features don't quite fit for a specific age. It shouldn't work, yet somehow it does
Gonna suggest the Batman Returns video, since you've already done Forever and B&R, and it would leave you with only Batman 89.
Batman Returns is in fact a Christmas movie.
The this is the Christmas carol that I grew up on and we still watch it.
00:45 - Please do
Dear Santa - The Cinema Snob & The Nostalgia Critic
Its one of the Funniest Videos
With the NC
"With" because the Review is on the Channel of the Cinema Snob
There are different versions of The Christmas Carroll 🎄
That’s an understatement
My school is watching the Muppet Christmas Carol for the last days before break
There are a HUGE number of A Christmas Carol adaptations, that it's kinda insane how many there are.
Even My Little Pony Friendship is Magic did an adaptation of it... and, believe it or not, THEIR adaptation has the darkest ending should the Scrooge character (Snowfall Frost) not change their ways and learn the spirit of the holiday.
How dark we talking?
In most Christmas Carol adaptations, only Scrooge and Tiny Tim are dead in the future and only Tiny Tim's family are suffering.
In the MLP version? EVERYONE dies in an eternal winter.
I've been waiting for you to see this one btw Kyle chainsaw man just got green lit for a sequel movie it's like what demon slayer did so merry Christmas and happy new year
Havent watched this video yet, but will probably I enjoy nostalgia critic most of the time. but moving forward
Kyle great job with all your videos!
I like OSP covering the original book that would be a good video, she also gives some context to the book
Kyle if you said you were from Pluto i swear i'd believe you! you don't know what holly is, your first reaction to Kermit is from TH-cam!
Now you need to watch for Christmas next week with the best Christmas Movie the NC has reviewed, that being Die Hard, becuase it's a christmas movie.
You want a fun Toys for Tots Story check on the one done by The Fat Election. He has 2, one is the story of how it started and the other he calls his favorite Christmas story.
I’ve been watching some of his stuff recently and love it! I’ve pondered the idea of reacting to him but I don’t know how well it would do
12:41 Bah Humduck is the Looney Tunes' take on a Christmas Carol.
Bah Humduck is a Looney Tunes version of a Christmas Carol
I’ve waited six thousand years
Proving how great the nc public school system is with every video.
I just went to my old high school last week and talked to my former teacher and he said he has to tell students “Don’t throw your shoe across the room because you’re going to need it when class is over”
17:34 - There is even a German Adaptation of the Office.
I tryed it once and it really wasnt my humor
In fact A Parody-TV-Show made a Parody-Version about this Adaptation, just with H*t*e* and N*z*s
(I dont want to write it down cause Im afraid TH-cam will delete the Comment Then)
And this Version was actually Funny
If you want a Voice of Death, look for a clip of Peter Serafinowiz as the Death from the Discworld series.
Alternately, listen to the voice of Sir Christopher Lee.
3:35 - Actually No ! Not only !
He reviews many Movies
He has a whole Playlist about the
Friday the 13th-Movies
Sometimes he reviews Adult-Movies
How does one review an adult movie?
Im just picturing some posh reviewer being like "Ahh yes **twerls mustache** the way those two lesbians eat eachother out is absolutely splended"
Its time for nostalgia critic grumpy cat Christmas
Tiny Tim shouldn’t be on Scrooge. It’s Victorian England. He gets leeches. At most there’s something to be said about a better environment helping with more positivity, but Tim is basically screwed outside that. So they’re gaslighting him by placing Tim’s death on his shoulders
The fact that scrooges change did have the effect to change tiny Tim's fate disproves your thesis. All it took was an approved diet and non quack doctors Bob cratchit certainly didn't move his child outside of London If he is still working for Scrooge.
@@wraithflaire1639 ok, so diet and payment sure. It still seems a bit off, but I’ll accept it. And doctors didn’t play MUCH of a role due to the era. Amputations and cauterizing were some of the best things they could do.
So it was diet and funds. The stories tend to show it like he’s actively poisoning him like physically doing it. Then again, rich greedy bastard that doesn’t pay resulting in malnutrition and death is a fair assessment.
It doesn’t seem to play up that angle much. They make it seem like he MAGICALLY is healed with his help and not “without that burden he heals” maybe pedantic
I love the muppets Christmas carol
I'm indifferent. I saw it once as a kid and it didn't make much of an impression on me. I always preferred the Disney versions.
9:37 Critic breaking the 4th wall in reaction to you
Kyle, buddy, you are a complete and total, 100% genuine freak. And that's OK! There's no time limit on learning. Well, okay there is, but with your healthy life-style you probably have a good 70 years left to learn plenty.
I turn 27 this year so yeahhhh there’s a club for that lol
@@theduckgoesmoo There is, but as Groucho Marx once said, "I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member." Stay away from that club.
It would be a Christmas wish if you watch a Cinema Snob episode.
He does Exploitation movies and knock-off movies. Some Adults film.
I would like to see your reaction to his
“Gladiformer” movie.
A really bad knock off of transformers.
Oh one more please.
Also look at
“Frozen Land”.
Cinema snob became known for….those….reviews but its not ALL he does
Hey, dude, I appreciate the hustle but please keep your health up. 900 videos is a lot, don't overwork yourself
I appreciate that
If you want to see some interesting industry story, i highly advise Breadsword's video's, especially his robin hood or bug's life videos. Hopefully you see this !
Duck, I'm asking this in good faith:
Could you pretty please take a break or leaven the videos you do? I'm fine with 3 vids a week, and hearing you do 900 vids this year is worrying. Please take a day to just Sleep.
I can understand not loving this adaptation but personally I think nostalgia critic Is a bit of a Christmas Carol snob.
3:30 cinema snob does have "Adult" content that he reviews though nowadays its more like obscure movies no one would of remember or seen in a million years like "Fun in balloon land" aka a macy day parade that had no budget and ingested a good chunk of acid and also some rather insane religious movies (those films tend to go off the rails)
like a personal series i enjoy from him is a recent thing which is the "X in film" which is basically looking at a good chunk of movies from decades ago such as 1960 1981-1983 and such
heck hes done reviews on the nightmare on elm street movies the friday the 13th movies and recently the hellraiser and candyman movies
to be honest i would love to see you take a crack at looking at one of the reviews (perhaps watching his crossovers with doug would be a good start) such as sharknado,The Passion of the Christ, leprechaun,Black Christmas 2019,dear santa
i feel like those would be a good introduction to his content (especially sharknado passion of the christ and leprechaun)
TLDR:the adult reviews are scattered across his channel but they are not all that hes about
Since the next NC reaction will be on Christmas, I highly suggest you react to his review of “I’ll be Home for Christmas”. It’s one of those reviews that ends with him giving a speech about the holidays.
So duck, would you watch this Muppet Christmas Carol movie if DevilArtemis Kermit was in that movie
So I like this film it is a great Muppet film and Christmas Carol adaptation.
However, my favorite Christmas Carol adaptation is the movie musical from 1970 simply called Scrooge with Albert Finney (the old man in Big Fish). I first discovered that one a few years ago and have watched it every year since.
Also the film was directed by Jim Henson’s son Brian Henson who basically took over the legacy of his father.
@ duck goes moo the Muppet Christmas Carol is the thing that i see every Christmas . It's the best with the Muppets the frog legs are reference the first Muppet movie called the Muppet movie about how the Muppets meet each other and the sequel the great Muppet caper was done first before the dark crystal and labyrinth and in-between seasons of fragile rock and Muppet babies and the short lived little monsters friendly monsters . Kermit sometimes lose it and yelling at the Muppet but they act like a family and every family lose it sometimes. but said they are sorry because they are still family . That's the whole idea of the Muppet and sesame Street Muppets characters that you are relate to I Kermit the frog is my favorite Muppet and gonzo . Kermit the frog is the leader and boss but does moments of anger but he does have his moments of happy and confident and worried and likes and dislike . Gonzo is the Muppet that show that if you know someone that has some things that every body says is weird and gonzo is the voice that says that it is OK to have a weird idea and not to listen to them people . Fozzie bear is the Muppet that is show that comedy is hard and keeps trying and it will work out for you .
My justification for the cut song being left in? The song at the end of the movie. It's a reprise (titled "The Love We Found"), and thus doesn't hit quite as hard without the original version to contrast with.
Please react to Nostalgia Critic Ernest Saves Christmas.
I finally got to watch this movie for the first time last Monday. It is up there in adaptations of Dickens's classic tale for me.
The 2009 animated film starring Jim Carey by the studio behind The Polar Express is still my #1, for the record.
I accidentally stumbled upon this movie several years ago, and it quickly became on of my favorite Christmas Carol adaptations
This movie is a Christmas staple for me and my family (actually had our annual watching of it on Saturday) because it was the movie my parents saw on what was essentially their first date.
It wasn’t an actual date, they just both worked at the same movie theater the year this movie released, and they both just sat at the very back of the theater watching this together
Needless to say, this film means a lot to them
I am a huge fan of the story of A Christmas Carol & watch some variations each year which the Muppet one is easily in my Top Favorites, & Fozzie Bear of the Muppets was perfect for portraying as Fezziwig in the book making him “Fozziwig”
I love it.
As a change of pace for the holidays; I actually think next weeks NC reaction should be to his review of 'Best F(r)iends'
It's not Christmas per se; but it is one of the most heartwarming NC reactions he's done in a while. I wont spoil the surprise as to why :)
Fun fact: this is my favorite Christmas carol anything, as a kid I would watch and rewatch, on VHS ,this movie religiously to the point it annoyed my parents and siblings
- This and Gremlins are my go to Christmas Movies
- Holly is a plant.
- Ba Hum Duck is a Looney Tunes version of Christmas Carol
- Unrelated topic but if you didn't already know Chainsaw Man's next arc is coming in the form of a movie
Sooooo for the christmas special im actually gonna give 2 options. The first is another Muppet special called the Muppet Family Christmas which have both Seaseme Street (which i HOPE you know) and Fragle Rock (which is featured in one of NCs commercial special, the tv that encourages you to read). Nothing really big or grand about it its just very sweet and full of Christmas spirit. The 2nd one is the Garfield Christmas Special. Mainly for the same reason its just sweet.
Nope didn’t watch Sesame Street either
Plenty of Christmas stuff, why not Hanukkah?
He did Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights that’s an animated Hanukkah movie and…it’s an experience without spoiling his reaction, review or the movie’s content or what the movie’s like.
Next, the home for all Winter Schlock, Hallmark.
Next week: NC’s review of “Holiday in Handcuffs” called “the most insane Christmas Rom-Com”
Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas ever
This was a family tradition to watch every December growing up... And I still barely remember any of it.
I would recommend the Ninja Turtles Christmas special and I'm surprised no one is asking you to go back to JonTron and watch his Christmas specials.
Also, I can't get over the fact there is over a hundred Christmas Carols and you never heard of them. It's the most overly adapted Christmas thing ever.
React to Nostalgia Critic review of Muppet Family Christmas
I'm shocked you dont have a video in your playlist for NC's review of Eight Crazy Nights. It isn't about Christmas, but Hannukah! It's an awful, AWFUL movie made by Adam Sandler!
18:25 - Dude ...
I guess if you do less Videos most of us would be ok with that !
I wouldn’t be
This is the video that made me unsub from Nostalgia critic
To watch this movie, to see the height of acting, and think it would be better to blare horrendous music all over it?
It's an insult to Michael Caine, an insult to everybody in the film industry, and insult to Jim Hensen, an insult to his viewers, and it's even an insult to himself.
