@RochesterSportRifles Outfitter Pro: roger that on the better bindings and crampons. However it's still a tubular aluminum design with noted drawbacks. In flat terrain they'll work great.
@shillelaghslaw There are some tough shoes for sure...you will dig them. When you have great gear like this it's motivational to get out and use it! Thanks for watching!
@WAFFLES081 720P: Nope same camera as always, for storage and upload requirements I usually avoid the full HD. But since you guys get stoked on it I am trying to do it more often. Thanks for the input.
Used a pair of them on my 2nd snow shoeing trip into the mountains and they were great. We went off the trail and someone post-holed with their snow shoes on. I walked right over to them [had the 8" tail on] and helped them get up.
Daily user of snowshoes near Fairbanks Alaska: NOT SAYING MSR IS A BAD SHOE BUT Plastic binding will break repeatedly at -30 to -40 F. Again not an issue for most users but if you are going to be up here in the very cold chose another shoe, I use Atlas. Not to many hills around me so traction is generally a non issue.
Incredible video. Now that is an adventure beyond anything that I'm capable of. I'm pretty competent in "fair weather conditions." I marvel at Nutnfancy's daring winter expeditions.
I'm glad you did this review, because I've been planning on doing so hunting in some pretty snowy areas this winter, and I think shoes will be a must...Thanks Man!!!
I picked up a pair of MSR denali for all 3 of my kids this summer $89 bucks each. Best deal I;'ve ever seen for snow shoes that will last them a lifetime. I love mine.
I picked up a pair of Denali Classics with the 8inch tails. Sweet! They arrived just before the snow storm hit. The Metrodome wasn't nearly prepared as I was lol!
@No1118117 "I don't really think a repair kit is essential. Otherwise very comfortable, and fit much better than the Atlas pairs I have used." Great data point and opinion, thanks!
Love these snow shoes. Bought them for a backpacking trip and ended up never needing to use them. Finally got to use them a couple weeks ago in 2ft of pretty much powder while doing so long range shooting. The four wheeler couldnt make it through so we had to haul out our steel 700 yards. Couldnt imagine how much it would have sucked without the shoes. Took them off when we shot and just sunk in past my knee. Light, good floatation. Overall, just excellent.
@912patriotJW it depends on how hard the snow is. If the snow has iced over and is harder on top, they aren't as necessary. (although still useful to have around) If snow is fresher and softer you are going to sink a lot without them. In soft snow i'd consider them if the snow if deeper than 1.5-2 feet. I do a decent amount of snowshoeing and I own a pair of MSR as well as a pair of Tubbs and I think they are both great for different reasons.
Good video. My girlfriend bought me the MSR Evo- Ascent snowshoes. My buddy recommended them to me for my work as a forester, he said they are damn near impossible to break. I cant wait to try them out once we get some real snow.
Great vid and cannot wait to see the latest snow series. Being a fan of the heat in Texas, I am glad I finally have something I don't suddenly feel the need to purchase =) . Looks like a good product though and thanks for posting!
Hey Nutn, this year I was thinking about adding little more distance and going farther north than my winter camping videos from last year. Also I'm in Michigan where there are less hills. I was trying to decide whether snowshoes, or maybe cross country skis would be more advantageous. Any make or break insight would be helpful in making the decision. Keep up the good work friend.
Absolutely awesome vid man! Have been waiting for this review for a long time now, and you have provided another goldie! Thank you for continuing to strive towards more vids for your loyal TNPrs. Stay cool, an tell Allie I said hi. =] Cheers brother!
Good review! Thanks for posting. The way the snow has been falling around here I may be needing a pair just to get to my car. Keep up the great work and kee sharing the knowledge!!!
Great information on the MSR Denali Ascent just purchased a pair for $109.99 on sale, reg price 189.99 Canadian price. your video sold me on the Denali
Great vid Nutn! I'm sure I'll eventually be getting something like these in the future after a few seasons with the Atlas under my belt... then I can use the Atlas' as spares. I really like the cleat style crampon on your MSR's... the Atlas 930 Trail shoes that I just got has two sets on them. The free floating cleat on the ball of the foot with side, front & back cleats... and a three prong cleat on the heel area. I'll make sure to let you know how they work out!
Great video. Thanks nutn! Its cool because if I'm looking at buying a piece of gear, I know if it gets a good review from you, it's solid gear. You generally work gear harder and longer than most people, so like with these snowshoes, I'd be confident in them if I bought them!
@pt109lover I couldn't care less who Nut'n was, is, or has done. The vids are real, well done, and I enjoy watching them. I'm glad we get to come along for the ride. I enjoyed this review. I have a couple pair of "Tubbs" and will look closely at the MSR's for my next pair.
Great video, once again. I really like the shoes, and they defiantly beat the Cabelas models. I will have to look more closely at them, and possibly pickup a pair for my winter travels.
Great review Nutn I just ordered the MSR Axis they are the stamped aluminium frame and they have the adjusted gait I was concerned with weight and was what kept me from the denali and evo's But not seeing a issue from your review.
I just want to clarify. Throughout the review you seemed to mention the snowshoe's capabilities/performance on mountainous terrain a lot. I'm wondering about their capabilities on more level terrain. As you mentioned near the end of the vid a tubular type snowshoes would be good. However I'm liking the form-factor of the MSR's. Thanks in advance Nutn' and Veri!
I have a pair of Tubbs Mountaineer (30") that are very rugged and very heavy. 5.3 lbs. They are tubular and very capable of grabbing the hillside (up and down). The weight of the MSR piques my interest, especially since I only use them a few times a year.
@basszack At 245 you're a bear for all practical purposes & would suggest keepin outa the snow & hibernating till spring time. Them Bars aint stupid Disclaimer: I only said that because it was fun & the bear thing was right there on the 245 : )
It looks like the tails could be used as a snow shovel to like do some clearing? I'm psyched about the EMS deal, we've got the Main store here and I get 30% off!
Great review I just picke those up and after watching these mI feel real good about my purchase I have tried a set of Atlas but did notice that those tube style felt very bulky the MSR's seem excatly what I'm looking for Great Job Thanks
SNOWSHOES??? Very cool Nutn'. Good looking out for your homies with the xtra pair. I love snow and the sound it makes when it's compacting. I'm a snowboarder and sometimes(depending on where you're at) you have to hike up the moutain...to get down it. What part of Utah? was that? thanks for all the great vids and reviews...keep it up.
The models in this video are easy to find being cleared out! I Bought evos due to proprietary/new model/just seemed like a better idea, but Denali and their tails can be found for $10-$20 cheaper if you look around :)
@WAFFLES081 He's been 720p capable for a while. But he's talked about how much it adds to processing, so it takes more time to edit then encode, and the resulting file size is much larger which results in a longer TH-cam upload/process. For shorter videos, it's probably not an issue though. Personally, 480p is fine with me and looks excellent.
What backpack is Nutn using in the action shots snowshoing up the mountains? It seems about perfect as my 5.11 Rush 72 pack is not quite big enough for me.
@shillelaghslaw I've got the EVO Ascents too...they're pretty nice; the only downside is that you can only get 6" tails, I believe the regular Denalis have 4" & 8" tails.
I can't speak for nutn but I live in MI and snowshoe a bit while hiking in the UP or in the top of the lower and I always go with merrell or keens. I guess it depends on what your looking to do with your boots but I find that if you have gusted tongues and they are water resistant with a non flex sole you will be good to go. Make sure to check if they have liners or not for good insulation and make sure you wear the socks you will be hiking with to the store when trying them on. I hope that help
Amazing product, got my eyes on these for a while, all that was mising was a great review! A bit pricy but for my use, they would probably be the last pair I have to buy. Nice tip for the extra strap. Totally what I expect from MSR. , Also guys watch the anotation up there, great detail resume! Say hi! to Alie and Croquet, thanks Nutn!
awesome review NUTN. might have to got get me some, just moved to idaho last year and cant wait to get out in the snow. To bad im back in IRAQ again right now im gona miss an awesome snow season, sounds like they are realy getting dumped on.
@nutnfancy Makes sence, i was wondering why your 480p looks much better then the others. well because you are HD capable, but not useing it for that. I completly understand now. I like to watch in full screen on a secondary moniter, so 720p looked a bit better.. BUt its your call.
Great Video! My research had led me to these snowshoes a couple of years ago. Put them on my Wish List, then. Thanks for your Review = the deciding factor. Used to climb around north of Estes Park near ComanchePk, hope to return. What poles and gaiters do you use, primarily? Did Allie have on her Ruff n Boots this trip? (trying to decide on dog boots2) ~ Be Safe!
@pt109lover I don't know if that guy was from New Zealand but that happened. BUT in one video a guy posted the exact info and Veri responded to that comment. She told him that this info is SO wrong, so she even didn't want to delete it. BTW - what difference make military/le experience in SNOWSHOES REVIEW?
It looks like that it's difficult to find MSR from Finland and selection is very limited. TSL brand seems to be everywhere. Any oppinion/experience on TSL?
*SOMEWHAT IRRELEVANT TOPIC* Hey! while watching this video I denounced my older problem of buying one knife over another, and quickly replaced it with another..every single review that you've done on a knife i own was pinpoin accurate and i cant make my mind up on this decision :( The cold steel AK-47 Vs. the SOG Aegis.. similar price but different designs.. if it were a self defense and overall F.A.F. (fun and functional) blade what would you choose? (Veri, if your reading this could you ask?)
I know this kinda off-topic, but did I see an axe? I didn't think you were big on axes because of the weight. Why not one of those folding saws and a big knife?
Hello, I apologize if this has been asked before but, what boots do you recommend for snow shoeing? I was thinking about buying some Sorel Caribou boots. What's your thoughts?
Hey nutn, have you ever tried wooden snowshoes? I use to take plastic ones and they just failed all the time and I got these wooden ones as a gift and never I would go back to plastic ones
I love the consept of Nutnfancy gear review videos. His presentations are based on his long time experience and they are so beneficial to me.
You always have the best introductions to your videos Nutnfancy, I always look forward to seeing your adventures!
@WAFFLES081 720P: Nope same camera as always, for storage and upload requirements I usually avoid the full HD. But since you guys get stoked on it I am trying to do it more often. Thanks for the input.
@duragezic Wow, great answer to the 720p. You got all the reasons down!
Used a pair of them on my 2nd snow shoeing trip into the mountains and they were great. We went off the trail and someone post-holed with their snow shoes on. I walked right over to them [had the 8" tail on] and helped them get up.

oh thank goodness for having such a dynamic gear review selection Nutn! Allie is truely an amazing mountain companion.
@Dragon7697 I will do a review on it sometime but it's no longer available. Bummer man.
Thank you for your video. I've enjoyed seeing how snowshoes work in deep snow.

Long time hip-hop fan here. The beat in the intro is legit.
Good review! Thanks for posting. The way the snow has been falling around here I may be needing a pair just to get to my car. Keep up the great work and kee sharing the knowledge!!!
Looks like a great piece of kit. Wish I could join you in the fun. Got to keep the hobbies down to a hand full though!
I love how Ally waits for nutn to take a few more steps through the deep before waddling along behind.
Nutn' sells another pair of MSR's. Thanks for the great insights.
Great information on the MSR Denali Ascent just purchased a pair for $109.99 on sale, reg price 189.99 Canadian price.

I love camping in the snow! Its alot of fun for me cause its a rare thing where I live in Washington.
Looks like fun! Really informative, i knew nothing about snowshoes, and learned lots from this., thanks :)
Another great vid and may save somone's backside one day! Keep em coming NUTN!!!
@duragezic Thanks man, appreciate it. I try.
Love the 720p Winter hiking. Hopefully we can have 1080p 3D this time next year.

Very informative man. I always love your reviews despite the fact I cant afford all of it.

@turntablized Same here. I haven't tried snow shoes, but Im under impression that they stay higher in loose snow than cross country skis would.

I live in Canada, I use snowshoes every day to walk from my igloo to my dogsled, these look like good snowshoes.
Very cool snow shoes!

great video nutn! cant wait to watch the full subzero video. where can we get that music by Soda?
Hey now we don't get snow all year long in Canada haha, just around 7 months of the year.
@BeltlessTrenchcoat Goober he means you have regular snow that requires snowshoes. Obviously it melts in the spring.
Do you plan on doing any over night snow camping this winter? The snow shoes is something my kit is still lacking always impressed with MSR products.
Amazing product, got my eyes on these for a while, all that was mising was a great review! A bit pricy but for my use, they would probably be the last pair I have to buy. great video nutn and veri keep up the great work
Hey Nutn or Veri, if you read this, can you put the weight in the description? I kinda had to watch the whole video again to find out. Thanks.
I love this Channel. Now I wanna buy Snow Shoes. We are getting snow on Monday too.... Does Veri have to watch all the Amazon comments too??? 8)
Cool video, nice looking shoes only thing you are missing is some doggy snow shoes. Nice coat for your dog as well. =)
Don't you have an MSR Pocket Rocket too? AKA the little mini propane cooker?
@Cr0cket20
Hey Crocket what jackets were you and Nutn wearing in Subzero?
@pt109lover I don't know if that guy was from New Zealand but that happened. BUT in one video a guy posted the exact info and Veri responded to that comment. She told him that this info is SO wrong, so she even didn't want to delete it. BTW - what difference make military/le experience in SNOWSHOES REVIEW?

I have the same problem! Veri, please give us directions!
It looks like that it's difficult to find MSR from Finland and selection is very limited. TSL brand seems to be everywhere. Any oppinion/experience on TSL?
have you tried the Tubbs shoes? if so why do you like the MSR I am thinking about getting a pair
Great video. But I wonder, are you using skis?
Nutn, what jacket were you using in this/Subzero memories??
Have you got plans on duracoating this? Maybe in international orange? It would be sick! -Nax
@nutnfancy
Sure, that would be awesome Veri, thanks.
i want snow! december 3rd and still no snow! this sucks, i want to get out. Great review nutn.
"There's a Double Rainbow off in the distance...Awesome!"
@nutnfancy Personally bro, I don't notice a difference in the resolution. Looks great at 480p, and is MUCH easier to wrestle with when uploading
What do you think about
SALOMON Men's Snowtrip TS Waterproof Winter Boots.
Just bought a pair.

I need some that are really good in heavily wooded -moderately hilly areas and I weigh 245 how do you think these would work? THANKS!!
720p, nutn got a new camera?
freaking awesome... now we can see all the details.
happyface
Hello,
I apologize if this has been asked before but, what boots do you recommend for snow shoeing? I was thinking about buying some Sorel Caribou boots. What's your thoughts?
Hey nutn, have you ever tried wooden snowshoes? I use to take plastic ones and they just failed all the time and I got these wooden ones as a gift and never I would go back to plastic ones
in a Nutn shell? freakin genius.
Ah, the Rockies/San Juans! My home away from home.
Great vids Nutn! Thanks!
how much do those small shoes actually keep you higher off the snow?
