    I still cry myself to sleep at night knowing the Sawvivor is no longer being made. Hope springs eternal and it led me here however. I take the KTM 1190 on a mondo ride all the way to WY to test the Wyoming II saw. I will always miss my fist love but dang, this is a great replacement! Use link in description if you want it.

    I've had that saw for almost ten years now except mine has a black handle and woodland camo pouch, but it is my go to saw for most work I do, even in my shop! I've cut down a 12 inch sapling down with a rusty blade. Love it! And I'll pass out down to my son when he finally needs a good saw to complete whatever task that he needs to.

    Awesome vid! Thanks for putting the amazon links in the description. I purchased this and that Condor fixed blade and I'm happy to support the project while I do it.

    Thanks for turning me on to the Sawvivor. I bought one shortly before they went belly-up. It might be the best backpacking purchase I've ever made.

    New code word for a potentially dangerous situations: "Slick flowers."
    Thanks for the review nutn, hopefully someone else will pick up the sawvivor design.

    Nutnfancy, where in Wyoming where you? I grew up in Sheridan and the Bighorn Mountains are my old stomping grounds. I'm glad you visited and got to see this beautiful state. Peace and love.

    A candle works really well for lubricating saws to make them cut more easily.

    Another good video and review. Glad I got my Sawvivor a few years after watching your review. When the camera fell at (7:00) it was actually a great shot. Falling down, blackout, then slowly refocussing. Felt like I was there lol.

    Thanks for doing these reviews Nutn. I have been looking for a camping saw for awhile now as I can't find a Sawvivor. Keep it up.

    I'm particularly interested in the comparison of the maximum cutting diameters of the two saws vs their weights.

    I would love to know if you have ever tried the Bob Dustrude saw. They are a bit bigger than what you would consider SAWC compliant, but they look very capable, and take standard saw blades from any hardware store.

    You're obviously in northern Wyoming, the beautiful part not that ugly portion in the southern half along i 80!yucky,yucky, barf, stay away during winter stay very far away Danger,Danger Will Robinson!! Picked up the venom tech on your recommendation and I love it. Been a member of the project for 7 years plus now, still going strong. I still really love all your videos sir thanks for posting.

    You should try the bob destrude folding buck saw 24" 16 oz. not as compact but sets up in seconds definitely needs a review been using mine for a year and it's still like brand new

    My dad has a Wyoming saw i have one too but its really new and i domt like using it cus i dont want to break it even though its a great saw but i use my dads all the time for cleaning and butchering deer cows pigs ext. and for cutting wood shop work besically anything gun smithing even and keep in mind his saw is about 30 years old still working like a charm it will never let you down

    Never used the sawvivor, but I've got a Sven saw that is pretty nice. Packs very small and compact. However it does appear the standard box shape now saws cut deeper than the triangle shape of the Sven saw. It's working great for me though!!

    I was lucky enough to find a Sawvivor at the Goodwill and got it brand new for $10 \m/ way better than any camp saw i've ever had... I even use it for yard maintenance.

    I just saw the TWS at a store on Kalispell, MT. It's a long drive from Salt Lake when your 101,000lbs truck is governed at 65mph, but it's a nice drive. Anyways, I think it's your store, Nutn. It seemed that every step I took I said, "Nutn has reviewed that." Pretty cool place.

    Wyoming is a beautiful state, I love it here! I just recently saw the Wyoming Saw in our new (ish) sportsman's warehouse in Cheyenne and was considering it. It's a shame it's so heavy but after your review I think it will be the saw for me!

  • @3640timm

    I have the Wyoming saw 1, it is about half the length and a bit lighter but works awesome. It would get you closer to the sawvivor weight and just as capable.

    Hey nutn, could you do a moto-camping vid? I miss the old backpacking vids (ive seen them all), and they inspired me to go backpacking myself. I think a couple videos camping on the 1190 or atleast a video on what you usually take with you.

    Hey nutn...I picked up the 15" Sawvivor on your video recommendation several years back. I love that saw and am also very sad that it is no longer available. I should have picked up two or more while I had the chance. Any thoughts on the Sven vs the Wyoming saw for backpacking applications?

    I lean more towards the traditional bushcraft side of hiking and camping. I have used this saw and its pretty damn good. I mainly use a bahco laplander in the summer and then my 21in folding bucksaw with my axe in the winter.

    Meh, check out Bob Dustrude's folding bucksaw, hand made in Duluth U.S.A. There is also the Boreal 21. Both are better saws than this. If you don't know of these two, you are out of the loop. Ive been using the 24 inch BDFB for going on 4 years. Always serves me well.

    Hey Nutn, I was just looking up the saw and noticed that there is a Wyoming Saw III which weighs 18 ounces and is 14 inches, unlike the Wyoming Saw I which is 11 inches and 16 ounces, would you still recommend the Saw II over the Saw III?

  • @ChipperFoxtrotVA
    @ChipperFoxtrotVA 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    With the saw test just getting started, wouldn't this technically be a "first impression" or would all of your many years of fantastic, objective experiences with saws ballparks this saw into a favorable review? Whatever the case, thanks for another good saw review on the quest for a Sawvivor replacement. As one user said, a saw comparison would be a good idea. See all the datapoints up front. :)

    nutnfancy You should check out the Boreal 21 folding bowsaw by Agawa Canyon: agawacanyoninc.com/pages/boreal21 I absolutely love it! Standard 21 inch bowsaw blades, folds with the teeth inward so there is no chance of cutting yourself or your gear if you jam it into a pack.

    Anyone have experience with the SVEN SAW (either the 15 inch or the 21 inch)? I am in the market for one of these and I am looking to stay UNDER 20 ozs... This Wyoming saw is a bit too heavy for backpacking

    • @fetzner808
      @fetzner808 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have one I use while back packing. For doing fire wood. Works great, packs into its own handle, essentially have an aluminum stick that turns into a saw.

    • @Archangel0804
      @Archangel0804 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      fetzner808 Thanks...Ive heard good things, and it is even less money than this one. I hear that the 21 is much better than the 15, but obviously the 15 is more packable

    • @joefbtg28
      @joefbtg28 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Archangel0804 I have both the 15" and 21" of the Sven Saw. Due to the triangular nature of the frame, the 21" is the only one to look at regardless of packability. The blade is amazing and really makes wood prep a breeze. I have had a few durability issues with mine. You cannot man handle this saw or you will end up bending the frame. All that being said, I keep buying this saw as it is the best on the market for the weight.

    • @Archangel0804
      @Archangel0804 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      joefbtg28 Thanks Joe.....You are the third person now who I've heard from that had experience with both the 15 and 21 and the consensus is on the 21. I am going to purchase this one. Weight is a HUGE issue in my final decision. I can't seem to find anything that stacks up to the SVEN for the overall value and quality and raving endorsements
