This was the first book I remember my dad reading to me and my sibling at night before bed. (Is this why I love horror and the macabre now as an adult?) This reading of it was very calming. Thank you.

For the past month or so I've come to appreciate the value of audio books while in hospital, recuperating from a devastating physical operation. I needed a pastime with minimal demands in terms of light exposure, noise and eyestrain (brain tumor surgery actually). It's almost deliciously ironic that probably my favorite book so far (I've audited many) is Island of Dr Moreau. House Of Pain indeed lol. Came to relate to that in a whole new light. HGW was a genius.

Yes, that's why he is one of my favourite readers. Not all audiobooks are enjoyable, and some I just stop full stop. I tried the Peter Pan audiobook, as I was interested in the book but don#t have time to read, I heard the book is very different from the film we all grew up with.
Peter Pan is a villain, too.
But the readers, even though they really made an effort, just didn't make me listen to more than 10 minutes then I listened to something else.
Mr. Parker, you are a gem. This is the second audio book I've listened to with Steve after Brave New World. Good stuff!

I noticed a very subtle and notable change within predik. He goes from saying creatures, beast this to beast that, brutes, to at one point consistently referring to them as men and women. Very nice touch of H.G.Wells I may say.
Now I want to see the movie to see all the similarities and differences

You should check out the 1932 movie adaptation’The Island of Lost Souls’ It’s well worth seeing.

This has to be the best voice acting I've ever heard! I might use this audiobook for an animated film version of this audiobook online!
Edward Prendick would be telling this story to a psychiatrist, and it would constantly cut either him with the psychiatrist, or the story he's telling.

@@SteveParkerAudiobooks Sure thing. The Island of Dr. Moreau is my favorite book, I bought it at Amazon.com. I'm actually writing an inspiration of it, called Children of the Law. It takes place DECADES after the events of H.G. Wells' novel. It has new characters and a new mad doctor who's obsessed with Moreau's work, and worst of all... he's hiding a disfigured face and hand from an incident in his lab.
I'm publishing it to Disney as a Y.A. novel since it has blood and cannibalism in it. It's basically The Green Inferno in a nutshell! LOL! Hope you enjoy it when it comes out, and let me know what you think.
This certainly isn’t HG Wells’ strongest work but Steve’s reading amplifies what to book lacks in substance. 11/10 reading please don’t ever stop

Hasn’t happened just yet but the second a classic book adaptation makes waves at the box office, you can bet that this novel will be adapted soon after.
@@s1n_eater True. I had thought The Last Voyage of the Demeter would make that splash, but it doesn't look like it did. Odd choice anyway, adapting a single chapter of a classic book into a movie.
Given the recent development of the events, we also have a good chance of seeing a similar scenario unfolding in front of our eyes. 😂

I remember when this was required reading. So were Of Mice and Men, How to Kill a Mockingbird, and Shakespeare. Headless Horseman tales around Halloween, haunted woods fundraisers. Memories.

Absolutely fantastic job you did narrating this. I had listened to this story a few years ago and had wanted to hear it again, but I found the narrative to be boring, but you're narration is perfect!. I plan on making several of these "beast folk" in figurine form and you certainly helped out with the process. Ill without a doubt be checking out your other narratives. War Of The Worlds catches my attention.

Just finished listening to all of it in one go. That final chapter was superlative! I'm gonna gush for a minute because I love great narration like that. Black Library needs to get ya in for a short story or two at least. Hmm. You take any commission work?

Razor's Edge and Lost Horizon.... just not there, either. Amazing read. Didn’t realize this was your channel till more than halfway through. Audiobook aside, I think the Brando movie was a better take on this story than Wells’ work. I don’t get why that movie gets panned. I still need to watch the 1977 version

This is wonderful! I' m up to 2:35:57 and the explanation of the Law just struck me as an analogy to the Old Testament Laws and the baser nature of men sometimes refererred to as our animal instincts.

Would you prefer that I don't get paid for my work and stop making things? Or perhaps put everything behind a paywall? This is how stuff goes, man. If you want free stuff, go to Librivox. They're nowhere near as good, but they're free and there's no ads. Have a good one.
@@SteveParkerAudiobooksI’d rather you put a minute worth of adds at the beginning or put five second adds throughout, it’s the long ones that you have to constantly skip that are so annoying especially if I’m lying in bed, I’ve got to keep finding the phone picking it up and skipping. I have absolutely no problem with a long one at the start or many at the start or five second adds that I don’t have to skip myself

They take me, on average, a year to make. You think I shouldn't get paid for my work? Go listen to some other version for free.

You're problem is not that you don't like ads, it's that you don't like ads and you're not willing to pay to be rid of them. I can do without you and your entitled ilk.
I only heard one word before shutting it off. There are at least two apps-Overdrive and Hoopla-where you can get professional audiobooks for free, the latter without having to worry about any wait. If you don’t have a library card you can even pay a nominal fee for one. This, in addition to the countless professional audiobooks ppl post on TH-cam without any ads. The only challenge now is having to negotiate around hundreds of amateur readings. But you’re right: if ppl like your recordings it’s good they have the option to pay for ad-free versions
Unfortunately, most of those professional versions are stolen. I myself have to do weekly searches to take down versions of my work which have been stolen by unscrupulous channel owners.
I'm also working on having my work distributed on other platforms, but I'm not very skilled at that sorry of thing so it's taking quite a while.
