In the U.S. we generally refer to the civil defense siren as simply an, "Air Siren" or "Tornado siren" siren because it is primarily used to alert people of dangerous weather.. To be fair, a tornado is kind of like being attacked from the sky.

i get the feeling that this "monster" is really a fellow soldier trying to help you but because you've been so badly shellshocked you see him as a monster
Ooh this could be so good yet bad. In the end they find a weapon and defend themselves, ending the one ally they had, OR the character is trapped and instead of being caught does what the letter advised and end themselves before the monster can get them. Both really bad endings but deepens how horrible the situation is.
That's not daylight. That's what a full moon looks like over a dark trench. If you were out in No Man's Land under a full moon you were more likely dead than not. We're so used to seeing the moon nowadays with urban light pollution and it doesn't look that bright, but historically full moons were notoriously hard to remain inconspicuous under. Attacking or evading an enemy under a full moon was a nightmare. This piece is incidentally the most frightening thing I've seen in months.

One of the most haunting things I can remember from reading memoirs from the first world war is a soldier seeing his buddy trapped in barbwire in no mans land. His friend started waving to him, when he got closer he realized that his friend's body was waving at him because it was swarming with rats who's movements made it look like he was waving. Or the story of a guy who stepped off the duck boards and got swallowed up to hus chest in mud, they couldn't get him out and the mud was slowly sucking him down so the officer told them to keep moving because the guy was already dead. They had to listen to the guy screaming for help before finally drowning in mud as they marched past.

23:50 just noticed that the player's shadow looks all sorts of odd. Perhaps the player is actually dead, hence why no other people are in the trench. If I'm correct, soldiers slept in the trenchs in shotty cots so the fact that the player doesn't interact with others is quite odd to say the least.
Now that you mention it, yeah that would explain why he never runs into anyone. The shadow looking like a skeleton on its own could just be the soldier thinking he's already dead, but him not running into anyone else makes it seem like he's truly dead. That, or maybe he's so lost in his own head, his mind doesn't acknowledge there's other people
yes but it the note at the start says that they feed on bodies so, everyone might just be dead and the shadows look like that because of a development bug or something in the development side
