    One of the wildest games ever featured on this channel without a doubt lol.

    A buddy and I took the train from Windsor to see this game (Got tickets from scalpers and sat right above where the McClelland/Ramage incident happened). Always thought Bill McCreary was a good ref, but he definately let things get out of hand. When Carpenter is jawing with the Wings bench, and Dave Strader says "Wup, something happened down there", the something was Ramage coming out of the lockerroom wielding a hockey stick over his head. Thanks awood for the extended highlights, a memorable game for me (Even bought a Montreal Canadiens varsity jacket that trip)!

    Haven't seen so much stickwork since Slapshot. And amid these types of games, Stevie puts up his career numbers this season. It's a wonder he survived.

    Heck yeah on Mickey's bday! Great game too, wild hockey back then sticks and elbows flying high.

    From 1979-1992, this was the only year Toronto did not have a losing record. Like the 2001-02 Blackhawks, a rare bright spot amidst a dark decade plus

      The Maple Leafs scored a Franchise Record 337 Goals in 1989-90. The next time that the Maple Leafs scored more than 300 Goals would be in 2021-22.

      I think you're correct and they ended that season with an exact .500 winning pct. They could score but they couldn't stop the other teams from scoring, and Peter Ing wasn't the answer they were looking for between the pipes.

    I like how Ramage checks to the head all night with his elbows flying, doesn't fight Kocur and then actually gets mad when someone does the same thing back to him...lol, what a champ.
    Also - did Hanlon make a single save in that game? He looked worse than most beer league goalies....

    • @oldredbarnman
      @oldredbarnman ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stats sheet says he made 10 saves on 17 shots.

      Speaking of goalies, this was the first time Sam St. Laurent played in Toronto since his knee injury at Game 6 of the 1988 Norris Division Semis.

      He did let some bad ones in, the D on both teams was atrocious though. Amazing game nevertheless.

      @@oldredbarnmanHanlon had a bad year in 89-90...and at his age should not have started as many games as he did

    Dang, St. Laurent really kept them in the game once he came in

  • @timburr4453
    @timburr4453 ปีที่แล้ว

    St Laurent was the last goalie in NHL history to wear that old style fiberglass mask
    Salming was so damn strong...Kordic came in to check him and just bounced right off. 26:01
    Redmond early on mentioned how McCreary is gonna lose control of this one...how right he was.

    There would be lots of fines and suspensions if you did the stuff from this game in today's hockey.

    Probert must have been in jail around this time? Looks like the Red Wings had to replace him with 4 or 5 "tough guys". Greg Adams, Daniel Shank, Torrie Robertson, Kevin McClelland wouldn't have seen the ice if big Bob were around.

      Yeah Probert was suspended for most of this season and I think he was still in a halfway house when this game happened. Then even after the suspension was over he couldn't travel with the team to games in Canada for 2 or 3 seasons.

    I had Red Wing season tickets in the 80's and early 90's. Remember Bill McCreary all too well in too many games. This guy had to be one of the worst referees I have ever seen. He was notorious for non calls, I hated him!

    Right around @29:00 that lady in the vest looks awfully shaken up and Kordic seems to say something to her as she shrinks away from everyone . . . Looks, off . . . wonder what happened there.
