Shakey Graves, Tyler Childers (way before Yellowstone gave him publicity), Boldy James, and Freddie Gibbs just to name as a couple of examples for evidence/proof purposes. He sings and plays a Lefty Frizell tune the industry trashed because it wouldn't be popular, except to us few. It's why original country music isn't played. So basically, it is a simple G C D G pattern. If you are completely novice, you can play it with the simple, open chords. Now, to get the choppy feel and the exact sound, you have to play the following: G6 G G6 G G6 G G6 G C/G G/D D7/A That's the whole song, repeating through and through. The special thing is how he's playing the chords: G is played as xx543x G6 is xx545x, so just add your pinky on 5th fret b string when playing the G chord C/G is a C chord where the bass notes are switching between C (x32010) and G (3x2010) G/D is the same principle: Bass notes are switching between G (xx543x) and D (x5043x) D7/A is a C7 but 2 frets higher with the same alternating bass as C/G or G/D, so it's a switch between x5453x and 5x453x. That's it basically. Now you just need the choppy rhythm feel and there you go. If you've got any open questions, feel free to ask!
