That mod perfectly sums up what terrible "horror" is. Because it isn't horror. At best it's trying to startle you. Jumpscares are a cheap way to force a natural physical reaction instead of attempting actual horror. But I think it's worse than that, the mod throws everything at you immediately, anyone could see it's just not suited for real gameplay, but perfect for "THE SCARIEST MINECRAFT MOD EVER MADE" youtuber shorts and videos. I wouldn't be surprised if it was created specifically for views.
it feels like a lot of mod creators are drawing from the YT era of Slender, Amnesia and FNAF (but missing FNAF's atmosphere, buildup, and use of jumpscares as an _actual_ game mechanic). The thing is with every mod like this is the fact you know exactly what's after you there's no suspense, they focus on the entity being "scary" instead of focusing on what actually makes horror scary, its exactly like cheap jump scares, there's no suspense or fear of being prey, that's what makes predator's in the real world scary too, you have no clue what is stalking you and they try to stay hidden, they arent just up in your face instantly the second they see you, the intelligence behind them makes them scary too, they strategize and how the world around them effects an attack and how they can use that to an advantage, no mods really have that essence of primal fear or unease of being hunted.
I really would think that'd be the scariest horror mod for any game, to be honest. Being alone, stalked from afar by something you didn't even know was there, and it just... follows you. First of all, the editing was really well done, especially in the intro. I need to learn how to do that lol. I watched the whole video, and you probably did the best job of making Minecraft actually scary from what I've seen. Having less mods is definitely scarier because you don't get jumped every couple seconds. I am glad to see TOWW included in the video. I am also happy to see you not actually get jumped by the real one, the hallucinations definitely were too frequent though. You actually were able to avoid him which is the entire point of the mod so thank you for that. I am curious which version of the mod you were playing. The video was really good man. Hope you get to 10k soon. If I think of any other good mods to include, I will let you know. But still make sure to keep the horror mods down. You don't want too many.

A way to make something scary is that it needs to be subtle, quiet, there when you least expect it, not a direct threat and only a threat when you have something to lose. The warden for me becomes a bit more scary when i have about 30 diamonds and other stuff in my inventory
Hey I made a modpack with my friend that was litteraly horrific, and it just used some basics horror mods, but what really sold it was that I added two mods (or one i dont remember): A mod that made it so it is very dark outside and another mod that made the moon give different light levels depending on its phase.
Lately I have wanted a Minecraft horror experience similar to the horror game silent breath. I like how the game has a lot of abandoned structures and graveyards and most of the creatures from what I've seen come at you but don't attack unless you are too loud because of the microphone utilization. We need silent breath mods and data packs. the data packs will put in the games structures and the mods will put in the game's creatures, flashlight mod, and a new simple voice chat microphone utilization mod. One key part is that the monsters run at you but despawn when they hit you to emulate the game mechanics of silent breath and they should only attack when you are being too loud ergo forcing you to be silent. Also, you would want to have a new world generation mod that emulates the game's never-ending forest feel and have it be adjustable with the world type settings when you go to create your world. Now if my computer could handle silent breath, I would just play the game instead of trying to recreate it in Minecraft.
The psychological horror angle that you stated was effective in your last video... That's exactly correct This modpack, is scary. I can tell it's scary, because you can get scared when a monster ISN'T there.
My opinion on this is that horror mods genially don't change anything about the game, they're just extras. I mean sure the first dweller mod tampered with the ambience inside the games, but honestly Minecraft itself isn't about just caves. They need to catch you off guard and when you just do somewhere or wait for the night for them to actually "work" is like being forced. They need to change Minecraft like it's biomes or make new ones, there needs to be a variety of creatures that work differently depending on the biome with you having to find out yourself how they work. More than anything, they need a purpose. Simply scaring you isn't a good purpose so there also needs to be an objective, whether that is sealing a specific creature from the biome you're in or just unlocking gear to fight it off. Those I think are some good examples to put into practice for a mod to actually be scary
We need a dweller that uses psychological horror, messing with your mind, something truly horrifying, like a child playing with it’s food, it would practically never attack, just toying with you, building tension, and when you think “oh it’s not gonna attack I’m safe” it attacks and you have a panic attack.
Just a mob or two isn't enough to make a game scary imo.the sanity mod is actually pretty good at delivering some spooks with the audio hallucinations, but the sanity ghosts are more annoying than scary (too much HP always aggro on you when really low on sanity). The from the fog mod is also neat for spooks and scares, but once you realize briney isn't really a threat it loses a lot of impact. Dwellers can be scary, when the thing doesn't just spawn out of nowhere with loud music just to kill you because they add tension, but rarely work to build said tension over time and just fnaf jumpscare you.
Consider unbinding the zoom key, perhaps? I'd imagine it'd make distant entities *far* more unsettling if you couldn't see them properly. Alternatively to using a zoom key, maybe try obtaining a spyglass as a progression milestone.
You know we have been doing alot of Dwellers we need the Hunters like The Night Hunter, the Cave Hunter and the Goatscared idk some names I came up I'm just imagining the hunters

I feel like more "horror" mods need to do more to unease and put fear into the player rather than just getting a little bit of a jump out of them. For example, The Manbear, it gives a sense of paranoia because you never know when its just watching you, but it is
I have always been afraid mobs staring at me, so the scariest mod that someone could make for me is one in which every mob stares at you from a distance.
Also btw, if you want a good example of horror that takes its time to get under your skin, break your spirit, and keeps you scared every time you play… then I recommend play the Mortuary Assistant. Genuinely one of the most disturbing games I’ve ever played and actually chickened out on. It’s basically takes the unsettling profession of working a mortician’s assistant and combines it with the lingering threat of demonic possession. The game is very unpredictable and its paranormal events are randomized which keeps it scary as you can’t just simply “get used to it”
Would be cool if you played my mod Whispers of the Wendigo (its a customly made non dweller horror mod which is available on curseforge and modrinth) Nice vid anyway ❤
idk why people immediately assume you're "hating" when you critic something. modders do work hard, but that doesn't make them immune to criticism and you have valid points in that regard.
Horror mods are either only scary in theory like with the cave dweller, fast running and loud and it will just kill you or its a pathetic little creature thats easy to kill
Is that bright light a bug or a feature? Tbh it was kind of unnerving, like every time it turned on it gave the sensation of being stared at, like youre in a spotlight.
i think it would be better if there was a modpack that focused less on cheap jumpscares, and more on setting the mood along with suspense and other things. not that it'd matter to me, i'd be painting my chair brown eitherway
Finally, someone put their money where their mouth is! I'm not saying I disagree with the criticism of Minecraft horror mods, but I like when people offer a solution to the problem they're critiquing. Even if it's just a mere suggestion, it helps.
For me, at least Minecraft gets scary when you think you’re not alone in a single player survival and that’s what I think they should do with mods that indicate horror in Minecraft
Idk how much of this is the shader or the mobs actually being terrifying lol, cuz I played vanilla minecraft with insanity shaders on and that was pretty scary. It's really good at making the game feel unsettling
By the way I recommend with the "from the fog" mod with herobrine to set him to spawn extremely rarely because that way its more scary and less annoying (and for him to appear for a split second)
Idk add like sound mods, first person render, or real camera, camera overhaul, just add like mods that add immersive mechanics as well then it would be more scary I think
Personally I think there is no scary minecraft mod, all mod makers always take wrong aproach. Through I am not able to point out what wrong thing they did but even after searching for many days, I was not able to find any scary mod.

The game is very unpredictable and its paranormal events are randomized which keeps it scary as you can’t just simply “get used to it”
deep blood is genuinely a horrifying mod you should add it
when everything goes silent, you know something is really wrong.
i swear i heard “music” this could POSSIBLY be carti 😭😭🙏🙏
chicken, corn and pineapple sounds fire not gonna lie
I think that the shaders are little bit too much dark
This was just one of those regular horror content farm video’s but with less jump scare spam? And a slightly better shader I suppose
best believe it
Would be cool if you played my mod Whispers of the Wendigo (its a customly made non dweller horror mod which is available on curseforge and modrinth)
Nice vid anyway ❤
could try
@@Rodelicc thanks
bro did NOT link the mod pack in the description
18:33 that achievement is funny for some reason, you wouldn't expect it from a horror mod pack.
"i should call kevin" is such an obscure reference lmao
idk why people immediately assume you're "hating" when you critic something. modders do work hard, but that doesn't make them immune to criticism and you have valid points in that regard.
the leaves dissapearing is a feature of spooklimentary, it's not a bug, it's intended and it is really cool, especially if you don't know about it
Horror mods are either only scary in theory like with the cave dweller, fast running and loud and it will just kill you or its a pathetic little creature thats easy to kill
The distorted Minecraft music ties it all together.
im literally craning my neck to watch this masterpiece cuz my glasses are air drying so everything isnt a fawking smudge
Wow, the shaders do change everything, bbbbuuuuuttttt, WE CHILL
-Me wondering how you play when its so dark
-Meanwhile my phone screen on 20% brightness
Hearing Europeans trying to adopt a hood accent is so funny to me
Ayo nice edit my guy
I like ur video style, kinda entertaining aint goin lie
The *WALTUH* jumpscare was hilarious
Is that bright light a bug or a feature? Tbh it was kind of unnerving, like every time it turned on it gave the sensation of being stared at, like youre in a spotlight.
"It's time for school!" Ahh light.
I like how it fits the Minecraft style yet still being horrifyingly
i think it would be better if there was a modpack that focused less on cheap jumpscares, and more on setting the mood along with suspense and other things.
not that it'd matter to me, i'd be painting my chair brown eitherway
Finally, someone put their money where their mouth is! I'm not saying I disagree with the criticism of Minecraft horror mods, but I like when people offer a solution to the problem they're critiquing. Even if it's just a mere suggestion, it helps.
For me, at least Minecraft gets scary when you think you’re not alone in a single player survival and that’s what I think they should do with mods that indicate horror in Minecraft
Idk how much of this is the shader or the mobs actually being terrifying lol, cuz I played vanilla minecraft with insanity shaders on and that was pretty scary. It's really good at making the game feel unsettling
i find it annoying when people overreact and act so slow to actually try to make it scary. I played with similar mods and it was rarely scary.
Intro was fire
I love you're videos bro keep it up
The problem I have with spooklementary is the game becomes impossible in caves.
10:52 nobody gonna talk about the knocker is just standing there staring
By the way I recommend with the "from the fog" mod with herobrine to set him to spawn extremely rarely because that way its more scary and less annoying (and for him to appear for a split second)
bro what is the song at 4:14 its ethereal
that renault soundboard got me fucked up 👨🦯
I didnt know herobrine was chill like that
The pale hound is terrifying, thank you for playing my friends mod!, he says thank you to
although he didnt show up i appreciate it 😭❤️
@@Rodelicc its because he only spawns in snowy biomes, and because his spawnrate is shit
I think a mod with ONE entity that fallows you doesnt get up all in your face, it should drive you mentaly insiane
W song choice for outro man
Dweller survival 101: 1. Keep blocks on you at all times 2. Never stay out past dawn 3. Don’t go far from home goofy 💀
you should try the silence its an intresting mod that relys on how much noise the player makes
23:06 Bro how do you growl that hard turns into Cristiano Ronaldo
Idk add like sound mods, first person render, or real camera, camera overhaul, just add like mods that add immersive mechanics as well then it would be more scary I think
Personally I think there is no scary minecraft mod, all mod makers always take wrong aproach. Through I am not able to point out what wrong thing they did but even after searching for many days, I was not able to find any scary mod.
