Thanks for tuning in! It is a PVC rod holder that I bought at the tackle shop. they have a spike on one end and a smooth lip on the other. They also have a metal bar to keep your pole from sliding to far down. They are so cheap its not worth making your own. Tight lines !
Tie your own bottom rigs out florcarbon 30#. Use one swivel comeing from your main rod make a figure eight loop for your weight you will increase your bite percentage
Get some of those three 4-in small glow sticks tape on the end of your rod fishing at night that way you can see when you get a bite unless you're going to stand there and hold your rod
Heading down on Saturday for a week staying right next to the Avon Pier, looks like the bite is pretty good. Hoping to run into some good size whiting to eat and some healthy blues!
@@PVA_Outdoors we had tight lines all week, good luck buddy. Good size whiting, small croakers and the spanish were running on incoming tides. Got some good keepers with a 2 oz Spoon and boy was that fun!
At 2:58 is an example of why it is best to hold or "work" the smaller rod instead of dropping it in the holder. Big rod to the holder...small rod to the hand". 4:41 same deal. always a chance you'll miss a fish or lose a bait with the rod in the holder.
what size were each of those rods if you remember, and did you use braided lines for the big rod? im trying to figure out if i need anything better than what i have to catch stuff bigger than spot
My smaller rod is a 7 foot medium heavy ugly stik, and the long rod was 11' old rod from the 1980's. Honestly, the big fish in the summer time are mostly blues and Spanish Mackerel. I use my 7 foot rod with a braided 20 lb line and a 20 lb mono leader. I cast a 1.5 oz Clark Casting spoon. If the wind is blowing from the east or Northeast they should be close enough to shore to catch. Tight lines and thanks for watching!
Hey Larry! Thanks for tuning in. My long rod in this setup was 10' but in the fall and spring I bring my 12' rod. I prefer my bottom rig to be on a 7' rod medium heavy action. Tight lines buddy! I hope you catch some fish down there!
We want to come down in October and camp with an RV trailer and try fishing in the surf. Any recommendations of a campground that is ocean front or has good beach access?

Thanks for tuning in Eli! I know everyone talks about the 8 and bait fishing the point, but depending on the time of year you can usually get away with a lighter sinker. I've heard the sound this year has been the ticket for drum during the summer. Tight lines buddy!
@@HicksHooks Thanks for sharing your experiences! I primarily fish hybrids and striped bass in Lake Norman(Charlotte). Been wanting to go try pompano fishing out there or even Myrtle. Not sure when and where to start. Watching lots of videos to learn. I think pompanos are making their way up now?
@@Unplugged704 I love fishing for Stripers as well. I've always heard August and September are usually best for Pompano, but I've read reports of them being caught South of Oregon Inlet recently. Tight Lines and good luck on the Pompano. Fingers crossed I can muster one up myself in the near future!

Just watched videos 1,2, and 3. I’ve never been able to figure out surf fishing. We always come down the last week in September and rent a house up north on the 4x4 beach. Do you have any videos on reading the ocean and where to set up? Last time we came down we rode down and got a fishing charter but ended up not being able to go out in the ocean because of rough seas. We stayed in the sound and caught a lot of these little panfish looking things. We caught a few other fish to keep but I fee it was a more touristy experience, like fishing for bluegill off of a dock back home. We though about finding a fishing pier this year to get a little farther out if we aren’t having much luck from the beach. Awesome videos though keep them coming.
Mr George Thanks for tuning in. I like to set up between the humps in the beach. Look for where the water comes together on the shore and goes out. I find the troughs to be deeper there. I'd also try a three hooked pompano rig with sandfleas or shrimp at that time of year. I'd imagine the pompano should be swimming then. TIght lines! I hope you have some better luck this year.
