Literally cannot get enough of this song. John's soulful voice and Antje's lovely accompaniment touch the essence of this song; There's regret and loneliness there, of course, but also the conviction and dedication to living a life as an artist. Not many songs that capture that, but these guys have nailed it. Got it on repeat and it just keeps going around and around in my ears and heart. Thank you, John Gorka and Antje Duvekot.

They might be the last two truly folk music singers. I suppose not but it strike me that way this evening.

I just discovered the inspiring and beautiful music of Antje Duvekot a couple weeks ago and have been listening to her every day since. Imagine my surprise to hear her performing with my very favorite singer-songwriter of the last couple of decades here. Wow! I've long been a Nanci Griffith fan too. What a wonderful tribute.

I still feel the ache of loss of Nanci. She's have loved this. I have added a couple of her songs to our live performances.

John played the State Theatre in St Petersburg in 1994. I remember being excited that he opened with a Nanci song. He played piano on that song and I don't think he went back to the piano the rest of the night. A year later I got a picture with him after a set at Club Passim. Still a hightlight.

Good gawd this is gorgeous. Thank you. Just thank you. Antje- so wonderful to discover you! And John, I found you some 35 (?) years ago while home in bucks county after college. My wife now calls you my “Sunday Music” and requests it often. It would be wonderful to see you in Seattle sometime. Let me know if I can help. I’d be more than happy to!

Beautiful version! Miss Nanci, but so grateful her music remains with us. Loved getting to hear you live, John, at the Octagon Arts Center in Clearwater, FL. So many years ago and have been a fan ever since. I sure miss that place and all the wonderful artists they introduced me to.

If my memory serves me you played this song in the early 90’s at Rockefeller’s in Houston. Nanci led me on a path of discovery of many great singer-songwriter’s. I believe you opened for her when she taped Other Voices, Other Rooms in Austin, which would have been probably around Temporary Road.

Beautiful! Heard this song from you in Portland Maine last month and also on an online TH-cam audio from an Italian show you did in the 90s. Not sure if you have done a Houses in the Field youtube session but would love to hear it!

Beautiful rendition of one of my favorite Nanci Griffith songs! Your voices blend so beautifully and wrap this song in layers of goodness. I've been following John Gorka since the early 90's but hadn't heard Antje Duvekot until this video. I'll explore more of her material and hope to see more collaborations going forward.

Nice cover! Nanci Griffith was/is my favorite female artist. Would love to hear John cover Harry Chapin' s W.O.L.D or anything from Chapin. Both great storytellers. :)

What a creaky, lumbering cover.....missing all the lightness and silverquick charm of Nanci's version. These two need a metronome, to begin with.
