I’ve raised lots of pups over the last 40 years, I’m a pro, 😂. You grit your teeth through the teen months and get through it and then you have a beautiful many years together! Currently I have an 8 year old miniature poodle and I will be bringing in a new pup in a month. I’m already gearing myself up for the chaos. Puppyhood is rough sometimes and a lot of work but dogs are soooooo worth it.
9week old German Shepherd here. Got him 3 weeks ago and he was so sweet then but has exponentially gotten worse as of late. This is the video I’ve been looking for. I’ve done everything wrong and you’ve given me hope. I’m 60 and wanted a puppy so we could really bond. It’s been so frustrating thus far but I have hope now. Thank you.
9 week old puppy is digging, eating my roses, accidents in house still, chewing furniture, but I watch your videos religiously and have seen a lot of improvements because I do what you say to the letter. Its consistency all the time is key. 🔑
Take your doggo out every hour on the hour I did that with my first two dogs as they grew. They had zero accidents in the house. Each time they do their business outside give them a treat. I also don’t give my puppy water two hours before her bedtime. To reduce me havung to wake up in the middle of the night to let her out of the crate
20 to 30 mins after food, 10 to 15 mins after water, after play, after reuniting, 7 or 8 times AT LEAST. A day take out on a lead to where you want them to toilet. Quiet praise . A destructive dog- already with these habits??? You need routine, to mentally stimulate, use boundaries, spend PURPOSEFIL time with pup for short bursts then they're back relaxing. Pup needs 18 hrs sleep a day. Don't let your puppy be "free range", be more purposeful
Glad I came across this podcast. I've been trying the redirect method for several weeks, and it has been making biting worse. After a week of being consistent with this correction, the biting has FINALLY started to improve.

I am getting my new puppy in about 9 weeks…..she’s just been born. I’m going to watch and rewatch all these videos to give myself confidence about puppy training. I’ve had 3 dogs before; I just have never had a puppy from scratch with absolutely no training. I’m nervous and excited!
I understand - I have had rescues up until now - and just have a new pup now who's only 8 weeks and not a rescue. Don't overthink it. Your bubbs is not going to give you eye contact for the first while! Just take it slow, establish focus.

Thank you for this video. I've tried other suggestions and watched other videos and nothing worked. within a few minutes my 12 week old puppy has finally started to figure out what I want.
Thank you thank you for this video! My fingers, hands, ankles, feet and shins look like I was shot with buckshot! I’m going to immediately start applying these techniques! I have already discovered that when my puppy wants to see whats on the table or counter, she bites my legs until I pick her up! I’ve got to get on top of this NOW! Thank you sooo much!
Watching the video after published on youtube. From Narvik, Norway. The problem describes my 10-week-old Boxer puppy so well. Exactly these tips I needed right now.
Thank you so very much for this information! I have a “walk-on “ Blue pointer that some dumped near my farm. She was about two months according to my vet when I first got her. She is a good little pet and sweet right away. She had some infection but has healed. I have been training her , however with mistakes. I have learned from this video and immediately had success after correcting my own errors. It has given me confidence and she is more confident with me. I’m older and recently lost my husband. She is the best opportunity for me to focus on something positive and learning a new skill. She not nipping and biting. Amazing! Flora is quickly becoming my new best friend.
Thank you so much. I watched your shorter video on this technique and tried it on my 10 week old Japanese Chin. She's so fluffy, I thought her collar was on properly but couldn't tell and it was too loose and she ended up flipping around barking and lunging and biting at me and I didn't know what to do. She won that battle, and I'm certain she doesn't respect me, but I'm going to try again if she gets bitey as this video has given me the confidence to know what to do in all cases. I can't thank you enough!
I’m waiting to pick up my golden doodle in a month. I started to worry after I heard differently about the breed from what I’d heard and read prior to purchasing her. But these videos are so helpful! Thank you!
I wish so badly that the live chat replay was available to see the feedback. I hope this video helps my family. According to this video we're not being firm enough at the right times and dealing with bad behavior. We're making a lot of mistakes that are reinforcing it harder as she grows. She's teething hard and we are understanding of the pain, but there's many times that it's outright bad behavior such as lunging and paw slamming playing you can't catch me while snarling and barking obnoxiously. Charlee is a 5 months old golden mix that looks like a brindle plot hound. We've had her for one month. Often you almost can't touch her without her biting you or your clothing.
13:30 2nd day with an 8 month old border collie mix that was picked up as a stray. 10 lbs under weight but after a full day of sleep and feeling safe and getting decent food her energy level shot up and puppy biting showed up. On the 1st day, no mouthing or biting even when I was hand feeding. No chewing on stuff. Now, she's trying to explore everything with her mouth (no idea if she's been indoors before). She's a very strong chewer but her "play" bites on me are gentle. I say play bites because it's the biting dogs will do with other dogs. However, in this day and age no amount of teeth are acceptable and the last thing I want is someone trying to pet her and her trying to play through the little bites. I also don't want her deciding things are toys (shoes, furniture) that aren't toys. Vet said all her baby teeth are out. But she'll still go for sticks and rocks outside. Those are things dogs will pick up to knock out their baby teeth. I suspect there's several things driving the biting including a comfort effect of having felt better when teething, wanting to engage in play and not knowing how else to express it, naturally high energy that's difficult to wind down even after exercising and light training, along with trying to see if this new "pack leader" will be dominant and address her behavior with a correction (the way dogs instinctively would). So far, she's fairly sociable with people and has sniffed or licked when being pet but not bitten at all and behaves neutrally if I give her leash to someone else. I have no idea what her history is. She is timid around other dogs and sudden movement or loud noise (from objects, cars, gates, shadows) will send her ears back in fear. Ironically, if a person moves quickly, she'll go into alert or want to play (maybe the herding instinct). So I'm trying to balance between the dog feeling safe with a brand new person and new environment with trying to encourage good behavior and prevent bad behavior from taking root. And I'm watching videos to see how to stimulate this intelligent but cracked out breed in a productive way. It's been over 15 years since my sheltie passed and I got him at 10 (lived to 20). So, I didn't do the puppy stage with him. So far, the puppy biting and mouth exploring is the only thing I can complain about. Super sweet dog, smarter than a lot of people, isn't a barker, and sociable if a bit submissive.
I own this dog identical.. breed .. everything! 😂 very helpful … I’m sharing this! I would love to see a video on correcting it while you’re walking him discouraging herding
Great video, thank you. Should the puppy when with us in the house have a house line on them all the time or just during training the session a couple of times a day?
Redirect works well enough. When my brother's Lab/Pitt cross wanted to jump up on me whenever I sat down as if she was a lap dog I just immediately stood up and turned my back and disengaged. By the 3rd time she understood and was laying at my feet super chill. She learned that affection from me required chill behaviour. Any behaviour dogs made that I didn't like I would just turn my back and disengage socially. It never required taking the dog by their scruff. Mind you, these dogs would try again and test their waters. If what they want is play time, as long as there is consistency the dog will learn that play time will not happen if they start mouthing or biting on you. The challenge here is making sure that everyone who might play with the dog will also disengage if the puppy does a behavior that you don't want. In this way, the dog is play motivated and learns that they get play time when they bite and chew their toys not the human. There are so many reasons why it might be more harmful than good when disciplining by taking them by the scruff of their neck. It's also good to note that even a puppy's parents will start out with a quiet yet firm warning and then will increase the level of discipline as needed. But when your puppy is mouthing and super young puppies explore with their mouths so let them learn to explore their toys and their surroundings with their mouth and nose but not with their human.
I have a very tiny dog with a propensity for trachea injuries. Collars are not recommended. However, her size does not stop her from biting, using her front paws and legs to get her way. She is the most difficult puppy I've ever encountered. She is a Biewer Terrier. She is a teacup 6 months, three pounds. Although I do not allow her to pull my hair it is something she will attempt to do at any opportunity. Instead of pulling away from her double rows of teeth.
thanks, I need this so badly, newly adopted 14 months dog nipping anf biting me when playing ALL the time.I tried holding the collar and had hime on him back to submit but hasn;t been working. I think your technique is better, I can't wait to try it.
i have a 4.5 month out miniature toy poodle .. puppy .. i am trying to work with the biting and nipping .. so i will get to work on this technique see how it goes...
Hello guys, I have a 4 month old Frenchie, which is very smart honestly...I am very resistant in my teaching and giving love/ care...but his stubbornness with nipping, biting my hands is so annoying 😮and I try every possible ways to change this behavior just challenging me..😢that if we are cuddling and I enjoy some quiet moments, he is right in my hands again 😮I love him so much and hope we get it under control when his rascal behavior is calming down...😊
Same, we just adopted a stray 6 month old pup, we don’t know what breeds he is but looks like her has Terrier in him. But he is a biter, he jumps on the tables, he jumps on anyone and everyone and is so stubborn.
Ugh.. I just found you yesterday , and I missed your live … any advice on nipping and biting with a 8 .5 week old pup … he has a collar on … unfortunately I’ve handled it wrong this first week with us 😑
My 4 month old puppy only nips when she is out in our backyard and gets overexcited running circles or playing in the snow, usually just before we come in. She has a long line on but has space to run loose.
Wish this video was exiting when our adolescence teenager was still a puppy. : (. Can these methods be used on a 1.5 year old teenager Samoyed? Thank you
I have a chihuahua puppy, she's super tiny with a fragile trachea, I won't be putting a collar on her but a harness, how would this work with a harness? She only weighs 1.9 pounds and starting to test the boundaries when it comes to biting.
Tried the bite inhibition thing and she doesnt bite skin hard anymore, never breaks skin but still hurts a bit with puppy teeth. But if clothing has some cushion (like layers or fleece) i can tell she bites harder If been teaching her "gentle" command when she takes treats and she definitely nips more gently but I'm aiming for no nipping at all
It’s even hard to teach mine to lay Because she’s so close to the ground. I started using the word face to bring her down. lol it works in her bed. She just turned 12 weeks.
Does the type of collor makes a diff? My pup is now almost 2 months and it looks like the collor irratates her. Keeps scratching. Where she accepted the body harnass more. But for these corrections and leash training I do need to use the neck collar. Is she just testing me to remove it? PitXLab
Question: i like to have an active relationship, so I playfight my dogs , when I'm in the mood to. Puppys can fight with my hand, older with my arm, but strictly gentle with no teeth, and they are in the defence. Is that putting me in a lower position or can it be ok to bond and to keep their guardian, fighting instincts?
Our almost 3 month old puppy will be rough with my husband but not so much with me. If a puppy is lifted by the scruff, at what point does that hurt them?
How can I get my three year old that used to live on the streets to stop using my house as a personal bathroom? How can I get this dog to come when I call act like she supposed to act and live a pretty good normal life plus when she gets in the car, she use the bathroom she’s throwing up, I need
My 3 month old puppy behaves well EXCEPT for the biting. I am trying to implement these methods however some days I feel like he is winning the battle. He will settle for me but as soon as I let go he is right back after me. Any suggestions?
I have 2 girls that are litter mates and they want to play with each rather then listen to me, how to train 2? at same time ? or 1 on 1? One will listen then the other will not so it’s hard to give treats to the one that is doing the right behaviors when their together.
Havent finished the video yet, but my 17 wk old puppy barks and nips for attention, but especially in certain areas like if we're walking down our hallway and he's behind us, he will nip at our calves. I get him walking in front of me and he doesnt bite through the hallway, but he'll often turn back to nip and bark once were in the living room. Hoping to figure out how to help this behavior
Turned one in September and I’ve been trying to get her to stop nipping and biting and the more I try the more she does it and now only that she wanna fight the older dogs like my eight year old American Staffordshire pit. He’s a boy he’s way bigger. He had to knock her down and not only that she’s lunging and trying to attack my, three year old girl she can’t stand it now she goes to her cage and she tried to bite her through the cage bars😖
I have a 2.5 year old golden doodle. She thinks she is the boss. She will bite if she doesn’t like what I’m trying to get her to do. Am I too late to correct this.
I have an Aussie who I adopted at between 4-5 months. We don't know the exact age. We have had him about 2 months now. I find myself putting him in the crate probably too long too often because I want to train him correctly so when he doesn't behave and I don't have time, he goes in. It breaks my heart. I want him crate trained for emergency situations but honestly would prefer he be in my bed or on the couch with me. He's just a bit too wild especially with the kids so it's an easy fix. How can I teach that I want to cuddle on the furniture but he can't walk on the kids or play bite them on the furniture?
How can i teach him not to try to bite my son? My son is a toddler and kind of hyper so he trys to play with the pup and the pup tries to play by biting. Im not sure how to fix this or what i can tell my toddler and fix my dogs behavior
All the puppies in these videos respond so fast and my bernedoodle puppy is a werewolf. It’s so discouraging 😢 I don’t know what we’re going to do if he doesn’t stop biting our kids.
Can this work with a nine, almost 10 month old puppy? She exhibiting signs of separation anxiety and biting my bands when I put my shoes on. The other times she bites is when I’m taking something out of her mouth she’s not suppose to have.
My puppy is 16 weeks. When i let he out of his pen he has alot of energy. He does every thing obnoxious he can think of. But i put his collar and leash on he is very well behaved. When he is off leash is it ok to shake him by the loose skin on the back of the head.

Options to do this without a collar? My vet says that collars are bad for necks and to use harness for walking so I’m concerned about the collar.
My new little 8lb rescue dog is about 8 months to a year old, super active little Terrier mix that needs some work on this type of nipping
My 4 month old puppy only nips when she is out in our backyard and gets overexcited running circles or playing in the snow, usually just before we come in. She has a long line on but has space to run loose.
What kind of treats are you using?
Yep, what about how to stop jumping, biting legs and hands
When my border terrier was a pup he suddenly went up a notch and almost started attacking me all was needed was a firmer hand.
Yes just like my puppy
Wish this video was exiting when our adolescence teenager was still a puppy. : (. Can these methods be used on a 1.5 year old teenager Samoyed? Thank you
How long is a house line?
I have a chihuahua puppy, she's super tiny with a fragile trachea, I won't be putting a collar on her but a harness, how would this work with a harness? She only weighs 1.9 pounds and starting to test the boundaries when it comes to biting.
I’m getting my chihuahua Oct 9 2024
Tried the bite inhibition thing and she doesnt bite skin hard anymore, never breaks skin but still hurts a bit with puppy teeth. But if clothing has some cushion (like layers or fleece) i can tell she bites harder
If been teaching her "gentle" command when she takes treats and she definitely nips more gently but I'm aiming for no nipping at all
omg, its so CUTE
It’s even hard to teach mine to lay Because she’s so close to the ground. I started using the word face to bring her down. lol it works in her bed. She just turned 12 weeks.
13:45 I’m going through that 😭
Does the type of collor makes a diff? My pup is now almost 2 months and it looks like the collor irratates her. Keeps scratching. Where she accepted the body harnass more. But for these corrections and leash training I do need to use the neck collar. Is she just testing me to remove it? PitXLab
Question: i like to have an active relationship, so I playfight my dogs , when I'm in the mood to. Puppys can fight with my hand, older with my arm, but strictly gentle with no teeth, and they are in the defence. Is that putting me in a lower position or can it be ok to bond and to keep their guardian, fighting instincts?
should we be limiting chew toys??? cause all our 7 week puppy does is chew everything
My french bulldog doesn't have a collar but he keep bitting and barking what should I do

What about 9 month old biting corners on molding!
What about if your standing up and the puppy is biting your pants and ankles? Can you do this from standing?
Our almost 3 month old puppy will be rough with my husband but not so much with me. If a puppy is lifted by the scruff, at what point does that hurt them?
Yorktown Virginia
Should I start this in the first week I get my puppy?

What about a having a beep collar or vibration when the dog nips wouldn’t this be the same approach?
Absolutely not.
Is this a "t r o l l " comment??
When puppy biting, very hard to freeze. Want to run.
There are ways to put boundaries in place which do NOT included PAIN! SCRUFFING ETC IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.
Yes yes yes
I have a 2yo yorkie. He has no training because he was a shelter dog. He likes to nip/bite. I need help
At what age can you start this method?

How many times/sessions should you have to do this? Did this today but she hasnt quite gotten it yet
Mine is full of energy, not used to puppies likes this. Had her at 4 weeks and I'm used that pups are cudly ec...she doesn't even want me to hold her.

Why are you making all these negative comments?
Sorry wrong person.
