as a student leader and an student activist, i cant help but to contribute my thoughts to this conversation. what everyone in the public needs to take note of is that these young people that are taking it to the streets are very much educated, so much so to the point where their hunger for education has led them to accumulate fees that sit at no less than R100 000. bearing in mind our fight for free education started years ago but we still have cases where the implementation plan of the Department of Higher Education is in tatters.
secondly, it is a given that when you see young people on the street let it be known that a lot of processes have been done before the protest, such as negotiations, and trying to make favourable deals with the management for the betterment of the whole student body, reading policies that by the way in most cases do not favour the black child.
when student leaders are met with arrogance coming from old men and women sitting in boardrooms, who have no base on what is going on the ground in campuses it is heartbreaking because as a person who was entrusted to represent the voice of students you come back bearing no fruit.
thirdly it is very unfortunate that in our quest for our voices to be heard we have found that they are louder on the streets because seemly when we logical and sound we are not taken seriously. our issue is not then incapability or lack of content our issue here is that we exist in a society that is not able to reflect and empathize for what the struggle of the black child really is and where it is rooted.

Thoroughly enjoyed this conversation! Thank you for voicing many of the views and frustrations the youth have but aren't always ready or able to articulate! Looking forward to many more of these discussions 🙌

I agree with Daniel. The role of government is to make it possible for people to solve their own problems. They can do this through law making, and making use of companies that compete in a free market to solve issues (essentially the USA). There isn't really a major political party that support these views in South Africa, so in my case I would say the polls would be my best bet for change. Voting for small parties can bring their fresh ideas into mainstream politics and catalyze conversation.

I identify myself as a part of the youth and such meaningful and well thought discussions are what empower me to also try and do my bit to be more involved in the issues surrounding my country. Thank you all for giving such genuine and free insight on not only what we face in South Africa, but also showing us what the youth is thinking. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

One aspect I think that may play part in things not being in townships (the kasis) is that the mayors we vote for and elect normally move out of the community and live somewhere in the suburbs and they never get to experience the hurt that the people are complaining about hence the late or no response to our cries. Hence even though the community is ready to work themselves, the man and woman, they rarely get resources because of those late replies. Leaving us with potholes in our streets, overpopulation and pollution and a dirty environment. Some of us we do try to make an initiative but we end up with empty promises of our ideas being taken into consideration.

Black struggles dont need any Inclusion or opinions from other races. Some people are looking over from the fences of privilege and speaking about our struggles and how we should handle stuff without having experienced those struggles in our skin.
