People complain that this video is too long so I created a shorter version here - th-cam.com/video/6Hnm5BlOUgk/w-d-xo.html I suppose getting advice for free is too expensive when all you have to do is just watch a few minutes of a video.

Hi Mike. I had a slightly different issue but my scanner had become very slow, bottom line going back to the default settings absolutely fixed my issue. Thanks so much for sharing this fix as could not find a solution anywhere else.

Thanks a bunch! Had the exact same issue. Just gave up on it. Then I finally decided to look into today, 1 year later. Found your video and Reset the config..... It worked immediately BIG THUMBS UP! Thank you!

It was taking 20 mins to scan one thing. Reset all worked. THanks!

This worked for me. I scan documents in Office Mode most of the time, and noticed that this was happening scanning wirelessly on one Epson scanner (two different computers). I am super appreciative of the tip, but wish you could have cut to the chase with a little less backstory! I almost didn't have the patience to wait it out. Next time I'll scan the transcript. Thank you.

Hello Mike, thanks very much, this solved my slow scanning as well. Haven't tried the printing yet, but come thinking of it, that was slow as well.

Just to leave a trace for Google text crawlers, same issue with an Epson Perfection 2480. Found it in a friend's drawer, after installing it on Windows 8 for the first time the scan was slow even for an old scanner. Restore to default settings halved the time needed to scan my 35mm and also the time needed to correct the image. Still extremely slow tho, I think I'll hop on the DSLR scanning bandwagon.

Thanks! The reset button fixed my slow issue! I had my Epson V500 scanner with my Windows 7 computer for years now. I recently bought a new computer with Windows 10. (I did not want Windows 11 because some of my old programs will not work on 11). I had to reinstall the Espon drivers on my new computer as well which I got from their website. On my new HP windows 10 computer, I noticed scanning started taking 20 minutes or more while on Windows 7, it took 2 minutes! It got so bad and slow, sometimes not even completing the scan. I thought it may have been my scanner dying out on me. I searched the internet like you did, but knew some of Googles suggestions was not the problem. But your suggestion of resetting did the trick!

Thanks for video, whilst I didn't have the same issue but did have problem with preview being ok then the scan taking ages. Not the actual physical scan but the in the background processing. 300 dpi on A4 page would be 3 minutes, previously would be complete almost as soon as physical scan finished.
I had ran unistaller reloaded software rebooted pc numerous times still the same.
I did the reset defaults problem sorted. :-)
    Thanks

Thank you for the tutorial! Do you have any tips regarding the scanning of the image itself? I have plenty of little cards to scan (business card size) but the scanning step is way too long.. It takes between 9 to 18 minutes PER scan! I tried to reset the parameters like you mentionned in your video, but it didn't change anyting (I wasn't surprised since it's not quite the same issue). I really tried everything I had in mind so if you have suggestions I'm open to anything! Thanks :)

The only thing I can think of is that either the resolution is set very high and (or) the color depth set very high. I would also try resetting the Adjustments by using the reset option (I have heard that this can carry over some weird issues). Another suggestion is to make sure that it is saving the images to a fast drive so not bogging down the computer. Hope one of those works.

It's puzzling why CCleaner wasn't able to totally delete that preferences file.

Good question, unless it is deeper then what CCleaner goes. I know CCleaner does nothing for preference files in Photoshop or a number of other programs.

No offense, I love the story. But takes too long. Thanks for the solution tho.
