This from the sit down portion of the 1968 tv special. The drummer is playing on the back of a guitar case. It was so informal. He is sitting on a small platform that resembles a boxing ring without ropes. The entire stage is surrounded by girls sitting on the edge of the platform.

Elvis put so much expression and emotion into every song. Even at age 80 I feel he is singing to me and his sincere interpretations. No, no one comes close. Many of his songs mention the lord. He was a religious man. Rip Elvis

Definitely need to hear the Live version of
    Elvis Presley's
    "IF I CAN DREAM"
    (In the White Suite)
    The closing song to the
    68 Comeback Special
    (3:12 min)
    th-cam.com/video/xA142IsjQiE/w-d-xo.html
This song was Elvis's Heartfelt and Powerful Tribute to Dr Martin Luther King Jr, after his Assasination in Memphis Tennessee where Elvis Lived. It is Based on the message of MLK's "I Have A Dream" Speech, and was written for him with this in mind. It also honored the Memory of Robert F Kennedy, who was also Assasinated during the same time period. This was a Turbulent Time in America, 🇺🇸 with the Civil Rights Movement, Protests and Riots against Vietnam War and it seemed as if the Country was being torn apart and Elvis wanted to bring a Message of Hope and Unity to the Nation. "If I Can Dream" is at it's heart, a Civil Rights Song.
The 68 Comeback was the first unplugged Concert. It was filmed before a live audiance in a very intimate setting.

Dude yes! I’ve been vibin’ to this song for years. It’s about getting that girl that plays hard to get! Presley hits hard!!! Legends keep it simple - less is more.
Presley keeps the blues and soul and country and the R&B and the pop and at the end of the day it’s real people problems. He mixed all that stuff up so that young people could understand it. It just sounds damn good, no matter what genre of music. It is his ability to re-create a song from the Ground Up. Nobody did that better and that’s why songwriters came to Elvis to have them arrange their song. His charisma and stage presentation was commanding. Nobody like Elvis- even the legends like Chuck Berry and BB King said that.

This song was amazing! Like you said, the ability to break a song down and make it to where younger people can understand it is a true talent. Loving Elvis so far! Got more coming. Thanks for showing my channel love. You are appreciated!

@@DexTVReacts I'm ready. If I Can Dream is fire (white suit version) th-cam.com/video/u-pP_dCenJA/w-d-xo.html - Elvis was a civil rights proponent, contributor and supporter when noone in entertainment industry wanted to touch ANY social issues, none the less the race riots. The song is his personal MLK and Robert Kennedy tribute.
Elvis was always the rebel against the social elites of his day and that song symbolized everything. The lyrics and his performance are still relevant and relatable today, sadly. He was heartfelt and believed in bringing people together by focusing on the youth of his generation and future generations. He sadly didnt live long enough to realize the impact he had. Powerful song -- If I can Dream. Maybe the best lb for lb social justice song of them all. Love to hear your reaction to it.

"Despite all the ELVIS imitators worldwide, he will never be duplicated!"
This is from a television special that NBC filmed in time for Christmas 1968. "The '68 Comeback TV Special" was a way to see if his fans still cared for him, even though some of them would see him in his movies.
All of his performances really are "Special", especially his ending, "If I Can Dream", a tribute to recently assassinated Dr. Martin Luther King, in ELVIS' hometown of Memphis.
The uproar of the '60s also saw Bobby Kennedy assassinated in cold blood.
There is a 2-Part documentary called:
"Elvis Presley and The Black Community, That Echo Will Never Die", Parts 1 & 2. These videos give us insight into the racism and segregation of the times, as ELVIS rose to fame.

Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory.
Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off.
As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (th-cam.com/video/LrFCyNMvZWk/w-d-xo.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

This segment of the show was an attempt to replicate one of the jam" sessions that would commonly occur in Elvis' dressing room after the work was done. Musicians, friends and colleagues would tend to congregate in Elvis' room after hours to just lay back, sing "WHATEVER" and have a good time. This is a sample of the real Elvis, no rehearsal, just "JAM"!

I would react to his outstanding, MLK and Robert Kennedy tribute, called “if I can dream”. Right during the civil rights movement on NBC TV. They wanted him to sing a Christmas song at the end of his TV special and told them that that would be tone deaf. Even though he was a practicing Christian. he wanted to speak to the country but he only spoke through his music. Check out if I can dream. Trust

I had never believed it when my professor in college, both a musicologist and professional symphony musician, himself, told me that he viewed Elvis Presley to be the greatest overall singer of all time. "Why?," "What the hell?," so many of us said? With him first going on to ask what's Frank Sinatra's greatest and/or signature song? "My Way," someone eventually said and then the professor proceeded to show us various polls from over the years which listed Sinatra as the greatest singer ever. Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin were also on top of some, and Elvis, too, on a few. But the point of the exercise was to simply show us Sinatra was considered by many, though it's subjective, to be the greatest.
The class then listened to Sinatra's "My Way," and then Elvis' version, back to back. With the room being roughly split as to whose version was better, "which proved what I thought?" But then the professor showed us Elvis rocking out to 'Trying to Get to You' from the Elvis 1968 Comeback Special. With the point ultimately being that regardless of whose version of 'My Way" you preferred, Elvis was right there, totally at home playing in Sinatra's backyard for lack of better parlance.
But as to Sinatra playing in Elvis' backyard, he said, it couldn't be done, as he said "[i]magine Sinatra, (who he totally loved) trying to do that rock number?" Then going on to say that he had found no singer who had ever sang more genres, more majestically, than Elvis, & he challenged us to find out for ourselves by looking at his full catalogue of Rock, Pop, Soul, Country, Ballads, Gospel and more.
And, when done, I admit I became a convert who was so, so doubtful, at first, I can't even begin to tell you. But from rocking out to 'Trying to Get to You' from that Elvis 1968 Comeback Special, to singing about the dream of humanity coming together with "If I Can Dream," from the same show, I believe you will see what I mean. Elvis even had a voice that could be operatic if you go and listen to 'Hurt' and his version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" will tell you why he has also sold more gospel records than anyone, as well as just tons more, overall. But, with pop and 'Such A Night' to a ballad such as 'They Remind Me Too Much of You,' he did it all, and so, so damn well. While for soul, check out 'Long Black Limousine' or 'You're Wearin' That Loved on Look' which is a bit of another number. Because as Elvis' one album cover says, there's 'Something for Everybody.'
Also, and if ultimately you don't think Elvis is the best, that's totally cool as there really is something for everyone!;-) Great channel and I wish you the best!!! ~ Christopher Tyler
P.S. Those recommendations are only, quite literally, the beginning!

Hey sweetheart, the song in my opinion is the way he was expressing his. Feeling towards Priscilla in GERMANY AND HE MET HER WHILE HE WAS SERVING THE COUNTRY IN THE army , He couldn't get her out of hisi mind and heart, and her father was a captain in the army and he actually asked. Permission for Preschool to come to Memphis and he would make sure that she finished school and enrolled her in an all girl Catholic school, they were married in May 1st 67and had Lisa Marie exactly 9months to the day on February 1st , this show was in 68, so much was going on in the world the assasanition of MLK and RFK , This touched Elvis Deep in his heart and soul, his home is Graceland in Memphis and when he was making this 68comeback special it just nhu hit him hard , so I recommend that You Must react to Elvis singing If I Can Dream in the White Suit , and tell me you don't feel every emotion coming from his mouth and gestures, it has brought grown men to cry and still 46 yrs later ELVIS continues to Touch the World in so many ways , the other songs I recommend is Just Pretend and Bridge Over Troubled Water powerful as Hell , of course Elvis sang every genre , so react to Elvis singing How Great Thou Art in 72, he never ceases to amaze me to this day , I'm looking forward to seeing you react to Elvis more, this is when Music was real and true. With actual words that. You rarely see anymore. Great reaction and I will be back. TCB 1935

Enjoying your Elvis Reactions. There is so much to learn about Elvis & there are many facets to his nature. Elvis always put so much passion & emotion into every song he sang, even the gentle love songs that he sang. This is his 68 Comeback Special, after two years in the army in post-war Germany, & then 8 years making 31 movies, most of which he sang & danced. He had wanted to be a serious actor, & had the talent to do that, but he was put into lightweight movies that he hated making, even though he was the highest paid actor in Hollywood at that time. He was frustrated & bored, so when his contract was up, he refused to renew it, & decided to go back into doing live concerts, which he loved. As he hadn’t done a live performance in 11 years, he wasn’t sure if he would still be popular enough, & this 68 Comeback Special was ‘testing the waters’ so he was very nervous about doing it. Actually, right through his superstardom, he was nervous about going on stage, but once he walked onto the stage, in front of audiences of thousands, his performer persona would immediately take over. He was shy & introvert, but his stage persona was extrovert.
