This past summer I was back out there and did the extension. My wife dropped me off at the high (east) end and I rode back to camp at Locust Point. I nice bit of "new" trail.
Looks like a super fun easy and scenic ride, but how much of the trail is in the trees compared to when you can view the canyon from the trail as you ride? Cool vid and thanks for posting!
The trail is along 5 "fingers" that stick out into the Canyon. Most of the canyon views are out at the ends of the fingers. I would say 10% of the ride is along the expansive views. Here is a write up from my most recent visit there on my website. mountainbikebill.com/AZUT21-NRGC21.htm
So I did a bunch of research on this beforehand. At the time I filmed operating the drone from within the national park would be prohibited without a permit. Operating the drone from within the USFS land is permitted. The NPS does not control the airspace so the drone can be flying within the national park but not controlled from within the national park. The boundary from of the national park boundary is a little bit down from the edge of the canyon of the area along the rainbow rim trail. It some places as a little as three feet down from the edge.
The trail is not a technical trail so a hardtail would fun. Tires, I really don't tweak my tires for the terrain so I would whichever ones are on your bike will work just fine.
Damn that is such a good video of the trail. I’ll be there tomorrow. Very much looking forward to riding this trail now.

so you used your drone? what is the legality since i believe you would take off in a national forest. going to be out there labor day week.

Full SUS or hard tail….what the best bike type for this trail? Tires?
