    ...the power of coming up with your own stamps and stencils is a thousand times more inspiring & interesting than those videos that give you running lists of supplies you "need" to buy before you can feel creative. Thank you so much for sharing and giving me the courage to dig deep and start feeling creative again.

      +Deborah Hughes how sweet!! I hope that you will be creating some stamps and stencils soon!! I would love to see anything you would like to share!

    A Facebook group I am does project exchanges. Someone sent me one of the rubber band books and I had a "breakthrough". I removed papers I did not care for, added ones I did. I love that I can pull the pages out. So true - the sewn-in book pages can be intimidating, especially to a beginner. Love your ideas for the stamps. Also like the shoe stamps from your other video. Thanks for sharing this!

    I do make stamps with cardboard backing and recently I started using another surface. Lightweight Acrylic sheets. They are very easy to cut with a box cutter. It allows you to see where you are stamping. I understand that there is something wonderful about using something you don't have to pay for. I love cardboard, too. I use it in collage. Cardboard has three layers. If you soak the cardboard in a pail of warm water the layers will separate. The remaining paper is really nice. It could be used many ways. I also use a wire cutter to cut toothpicks. The wire cutters will make a cleaner cut. I am forever trying to root avocado seeds. I use toothpicks to anchor the seeds in water. I've always had wire cutters as I have worked as a floral designer in the past. I think it is a good, all purpose, tool to keep handy. Thank you for these videos. You really do know how to motivate and inspire the artist within all of us, me included.

      They are clear acrylic sheets. In appearance, they look like glass, meaning, they are clear and see-thru. I think acrylic is a type of plastic. People might use acrylic instead of glass when they are creating, either a home project or craft project. For instance, cutting a piece of acrylic to make a window or cutting a piece to fit next to an air conditioner in a window. I bought my acrylic sheets at the Home Depot. They come in different thicknesses. I buy the smaller pieces which might be 8 1/2" by 11. I found them in the same section where the wood is. Meanwhile, I made several stamps using fun foam ( with adhesive backing) and rubber bands. I used an acrylic sheet that I cut, to size, on one stamp. Then, I used cardboard on another stamp. I used the cardboard from the back of a Bristol paper pad. It was just as nice. I found that it did not matter which backing I used. I would say that the acrylic backing will last longer. But the feel of the cardboard is asethitically pleasing. It feels more like homemade. I used Versafine Ink pads and Distress Ink pads. I was able to get an image with color. It was driving me crazy that you could not pick up the ink from your ink pad. You certainly had some beautiful homemade stamps. They are authentic. I have to watch the video again. I want to try each technique. Thank you for being my creative catylyst.

      @@wfm5121954 🤔 Is this that plastic see-through thing that is often a part of packaging?
      I use cardboard since that's what I've got on hand. But if the plasticy stuff is better I guess we could mix the two ideas and put that on the bottom, directly touching the stamp (so we wouldn't risk the surface budging in time) and then stick cardboard on top of the plastic thing so the stamp would have more dimension.

    I'm writing down all your ideas, thank you for this and the first video. Love it! You know what's cool? Save your tape lint pick up rolls, wrap with rubber bands, glue on old necklace chains, foam shapes or fabric or draw shapes onto it with hot glue and roll it onto your page or gelli plate.

    I also think it would look cool to trace around a logo, like that Sunny Meadow Farms with the sun or a cute picture of a logo on some styrofoam would be good.

    • @Kagedfish
      @Kagedfish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great idea, but sometimes the styrofoam gets dented or "pressed" in and doesn't hold it's shape the best. It would be worth a try!!

    It occurred to me that some of the stamps that make faint impressions might work better with white or metallic ink/paint on dark paper.

    Put wax paper between damp pages when working with the acrylic paints. you may lose some paint but it works pretty well.

    • @Kagedfish
      @Kagedfish  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have used wax paper and it doesn't always work for me, I might be putting too much paint on or something, so I would rather not take the chance. But thanks for the suggestion!

    Love your ideas from this and the previous video. Just wondering what kind of paper you are using. I think your journal is freeing as we wouldn't worry about ruining pages as we would in a purchased journal.

    • @Kagedfish
      @Kagedfish  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use what ever paper I have, copy paper, if I but a tablet of sketch paper, watercolor paper, Mixed Media paper, and sometimes I use card stock. If I want my pages to be sturdy and hold up to experiments that I may want to do in the future I choose a sturdier weight paper. If I am making signatures for a glue book copy paper works well. You could also make a signature with different types of paper to try and see what works for you. I do have signatures available for sale with different types of paper, that way you wouldn't have to buy the different types in large quantities. You can email me at Kagedfish@yahoo.com if interested.

    Oops, 1 more thing: when I’m not getting a good impression, I put 3 or 4 paper towels (or even a dish towel if the situation calls for drastic measures) under the paper I’m stamping on. That gives more points of contact between paper and stamp and I usually get a much better result. I also just paused the video to repurpose a flower blossom rubber eraser I’ve had forever. Stuck a push pin in one side and voila! a stamp is born. Those rubber erasers come in all kinds of shapes, too ...

      I had heard that, I now try to remember to use a mat for a little cushion under. Paper towels sound interesting to try as well TFS

    Watching this gave me an Idea, (recycle queen ) use water/juice/soda etc., caps as holders for the stamps.

    • @Kagedfish
      @Kagedfish  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I have started doing just that! I no longer use cardboard bases, they flatten over time, I use caps and plastic lids now. I will be doing a new video very soon!

    Here I thought I was a lunatic for breaking down all of my Amazon boxes...... and saving all of the resulting cardboard......I now have a mountain of homemade stamps (love the plastic card idea).....I spent hours in my "experiment" brownie box, rubber band journal today... and, even blew a raspberry at my Canson journaland my Strathmore journals which made me sooooo frozen...... the dam broke......I pushedpast that massive, towering wall that had me stymied! Everyone talks about swaps and "groups"......I am social media challenged.... still have a land linephone!...... any suggestions?Thanks again for the inspiration!

      +Diane Daniels I'm still getting comfortable with the social media thing so I can't help much there but I do understand doing things the old way. I do not shop online. I'm so glad that you were inspired! as I said you inspired me as well. funny you should say brownie box, I have a blueberry muffin box that I will play in too! I hope you will continue to play and hope you are having fun!!
